Anybody else get one??
So I get a letter in the mail they would like me to sign up for this program where they take my car for 7-8 weeks to test it’s pollutants.
Offering
5k upon return of vehicle
A fully insured and fueled model similar to mine as a loaner with unlimited mileage

There is more to the letter but one of the first things that popped into mind is are going to be driving my across the country for 7 weeks and I get back who knows how many miles driven on it.

There is a question sheet and a number to call If interested.

Back to the main question. Anybody else get one of these letters

Wonder if it shows up on Carfax later as a test vehicle…would then have diminished value

Me being the trusting guy I am...first thing I think is they rent you a car with a fake ID, take your car for "testing"...buy the time you get popped in a now "stollen" rental, yours is in Mexico, or retagged and resold.

These days you can get carjacked in broad daylight and nobody does a thing. Why go through all the effort of this mailer just to do the same thing?

Well, I was just going back to my youth. Certain groups would look in the Recycler or Car Trader for what was "on the list". Find the model, color and options requested by a buyer.

The game has changed, as well as the technology. The more difficult the car is to jack by normal means, the more profitable it is. Not to mention, car jacking runs inherent risks, such as unintended harm to victims as well as damages to the car. It's always been easier to steal a car if you have the keys, and a head start.

We received a letter from Hyundai for the same thing just before we returned the lease. Might have done it if we were going to keep the car. From what I remember they specified a mileage limit they would put on the car and it wasn't much. Carb might be different.
