Is there a reason why a dealership will sell a part like a transmission gasket for $50 in person or $30 online but it’s through a separate website from the dealers website and they won’t let you will call it and all the dealers have the exact same pricing?

Wouldn’t they rather match the online price that they would sell it for anyway and have me come pick it up from them right now as opposed to ordering it from somewhere else and waiting a week?

Is it making some money better than making no money when it comes to parts that just sit on your shelf that you’re already paid for? Don’t tell me about overhead the part that you buy online for half the price is coming from the same dealership stockroom as the one that you would pick up in person.

I’ve always gotten Anderson to be pretty good about buying parts for similar to what I can grab it for online… I got shafted on a crank case filter for my diesel recently because I wasn’t paying attention at the counter… I’ve been pretty faithful about letting them do the service tires etc. on the truck but after that little incident I doubt I ever go back. It seems dealerships are hell-bent on fucking you whether they get one time business or long term.

Years ago I found some cheap OEM Toyota brake pads on eBay being sold by a local Toyota dealer.

I went through the purchase process on eBay and it had a choice where I could pick them up instead of getting them shipped.

When I got to the dealer the parts manager blew a gasket because of the low price. Some internet department had done the whole thing without his knowledge, but I got the price in the end.

One time a local BMW dealer charged me four times list for an o-ring I needed. they have some kind of pricing matrix where if a part is under a few dollars they multiply it to the Moon.

Some rich dealer group owner somewhere is enjoying the profits.

The mom and pop dealers are just about all gone in major Metro areas. Fair pricing went with them.

Because $50 is the price their service dept is charging for it on their work orders.
I'm not sure they can reasonably have 2 prices for the same gasket for the same person - one in the shop and one at the counter.
I'm sure that legally they could - but it would be unjustifyable in reality.

Because the dealer has a brick and mortar store they are staffing and if they don't sell enough of it, they won't price match as the volume isn't there to make the profit after overhead at the lower price. They aren't just drop shipping - they are shipping it to their store, then receiving it, stocking it, pulling the order, etc.

Some will price match, all depends on the location and the man in charge.

It’s all about convenience, do you want it now or wait 5-10 business days?

The online deal is a drop ship. If you're gonna make the counterguy walk around, pull the part, invoice it, etc....that costs money. The drop ship deal is cheaper because not a single person at the dealership spends a second dealing with the transaction.

Same reason you can buy a part locally for twice what you can order it from on Rock Auto. Rock Auto is drop shipping it and the only personnel involved are mouthbreathing warehouse fucktards that cost $7/hr in Ohio or NY or some other shitty place.
