Howdy peeps,

I went to Big Bear a few times this year.
The dirt & salt wreaked havoc on my trucks paint and other crap.

The "door ding strips" (or whatever they're called) on the sides of the truck were pretty fu*cked-up and needed to go.

I peeled them all off, which left two strips of foam adhesive stuck to the paint, where the bumpers were removed.
I used a heat gun to remove the "foam part" of the sticky tape.
Now there is just a thin layer adhesive that I can't remove with heat.

I tried gas in a little spot, but that didn't work well.

Any ideas as to what I could take this crap off or melt it away with?
Without screwing up the paint?

Thank you

FT

Hate to say it, but I've had decent luck with the citrus based cleaners like 'goo-gone' or something similar in the spray bottles. Does not seem to hurt the paint, etc but softens up the existing adhesive and is a easy cleanup. Even acetone would be questionable unless tested first.

Good luck. Might try spraying with the citrus then some mild heat. I would not use anything hotter than a hair dryer or heat lamp though.

Heat gun and get ready to fuck up your fingers....get off the thick stuff the best you can.....then soak in Goof Off..the one in the metal can. It takes a lil work.

This, your cordless drill and then a quick wipedown with WD40 or mineral spirits and you are done. Maybe 1/2 work time on that Ford

X2 for WD40. I also had good luck with Kerosene to remove tar from my truck that was kicked up from the road. Actually use to wash my truck with a 50/50 mix of Kerosene and water in the winter when I lived in Arrowhead.

Bad Ass!!!

Thank you all for the replies and ideas.

I will be purchasing several of these suggestions tomorrow and seeing what's what.

This is why I love this place.

This is what we use, and what I’ve personally used for years.

Makes quick work of every adhesive I’ve ever tried it on.

Mineral spirits will work just fine. Use a soft cloth so you avoid scratching your paint. Be patient. Lacquer thinner may soften the clear, and possibly haze the gloss.

WD-40 and an old credit card is how I removed the adhesive when I took my molding off. Was easy and did not scratch the paint.

Rapid Tac adhesive remover, found on Amazon. By far the best and easiest method I have used. Won’t damage paint.

Eraser wheel.
California doesn’t use salt. Cinders only.
