I don't have the Marine stuff but I do have two Rockford amps, The T series in my boat and I haven't had any issue's. Unless they are going to get wet you don't really need Marine!! Love their amps never had their speakers!! Good Luck!!

Speed of Sound upgraded my stereo last season. Went Rockford amps and speakers, and the subs they make on house. Currently running 4 of their amps. I am very happy with how it sounds.

My new boat is all RF amps, speakers, sub and head unit. I'm very happy with all of it. Way louder and cleaner than my old boat with all JL.

On my build I used all rf m series marine speakers. The 8" ones are so clear I am pushing 150w per speaker and they just cant distort. Plus they look bitchen too.

I love their amps. They are very hard to beat. They always do more than rated and are very high quality. You could always find better but it is completely unnecessary (zapco, zed). Their speakers sound good, get loud and are priced right. The power series t1's are a bit tinny for my taste, they use an aluminum tweeter. They are like an infinity or focal sound. The t2 use a soft dome and sound great. The punch series is probably your best value for sound quality, loudness and price. That goes for the punch series amps as well. The primes I personally though they muddied up when turned loud. The sound was average, they are not bad for the price though, as its designed as their entry level. I've never been a fan of their subs since they stopped making the team rf hx2's. You can find so much better for the money. As far as subs go, the main audio manufacturers do not give you a good sound, loudness and quality for your money. Anything from sundown, fi, re, obsidian, sound cubed, skar, incriminator, sound solutions audio...will be so much better for nearly the same amount. Overall I would happy with all fosgate in any series, excluding subs

I have been out of the game for quite a few years. But back then all of my systems were built using their equipment. I heard quality dropped a little a couple years ago. But that happens and they could have corrected the issue.

RF comes in Malibu's from the factory. I had it in my last two boats, and while it sounds good enough, I would say it has gone down a bit over the years.

I my latest boat, I ordered the boat with no stereo and installed all Exile Audio equipment. Been really happy so far.

Thats not true at all. Their quality has actually gotten a lot better in the last 3 or 4 years. It might not be the equipment in your boat. Remember... system design, layout, and installation, is just as important as the equipment itself. When boat manufatcturers are assembling boats, the stereo is an after thought and in most cases they just "stick it where it fits".

I would agree with Builders are not stereo guys by any means, and do throw equipment in the boat, but do not fine tune. I use to love RF, I had it in my 2002 VLX and it was great, the following boat I had trouble with the amps cutting out, not being able to take the heat, etc. granted we run out system in extremes while out at the river, they just couldn't keep up. Swapped out the amps for alpine and never had an issue after that. Same issues on my 2010 VLX, speakers sounded good, amps wouldn't cut it, again went to alpines and all was well. The sub also blew. The inboat speakers weren't bad, but would distort at high volumes. I know you will get experiences from all manufacturers, but IMO, their quality is not what it use to be. After my experiences, I went with another manufacturer.

In my new boat, I didn't even install a head unit. The whole system is ran off an eq with wifi and Bluetooth connectivity. You can use your iPhone, iPod, iPad, android, whatever. The only wire is for charging

The iPod is mounted on the left of the dash in my setup. I'm looking at putting an iPad mini there, just trying to work out space constraints

The Alpine amps weren't necessarily better. They were just the first ones to use the protection circuitry that continuously rolls back power output as voltage drops and temperature rises. (which was a great idea)
The Rockford amps were doing exactly what they were supposed to do to protect themselves from "on the river abuse". :D
The new Rockford amps have a protection circuit more like the Alpine PDX's now and maybe better. I know for a fact they will now play down to 9.32 volts. ;)

FYI...Im also an Alpine dealer too so im not knocking them. Just sticking up for Rockford.

I had a JL in my Camaro.. It was nice, not the best but nice (so I thought). After about 3 years, the thing finally died. Bought a Fosgate 10" Punch cause my friend get a big rubbery one with Fosgate stuff, he swears its the best. Holy god, the sub is like 2x as loud as 4x as clean sounding than the JL.... 10/10 would buy again.... Bonus points are awarded for it not being to entirely expensive.

Most guys don't buy RF amps because they are really expensive and for good reason they rock!! I have a T-600 running 8 alpine speakers that are 100 RMS a piece I have the amp turned almost to a quarter and the speakers can't handle.
Runs a little warm but never shuts off!!
I have a T-1000 BD for the subs that are 400 rms and its only half! These amps put out huge power but you need a really good charging system and you need to setup your head unit and Amps correctly!! I am going to put fans on both amps because when it's 115+ they get to hot to touch! But still don't shut off!! I had a Marine Alpine amp and it just didn't keep up with what I have! It's a nice amp but needs to be in smaller system. M-600

SPL2k,
So how do you rate the wetsounds and Exile equipment?

I'm not say RF is horrible, and as mentioned, if you have several negative experiences, one is going to form an opinion. The RF equipment in my first boat dealt with Parker conditions fine, their newer stuff did not. I'm sure they have different equipment, but my stuff did not hold up. I know they are protecting themselves by shutting down, but (at the time) they could not keep up like the PDX. Exiles have been great, and their service has been great.

SPL2k,

Wetsounds is the best if you listen to your music from 50 yards away.
I have zero experience with Exile product.

I mentioned this stuff in another thread recently, but I've been pretty impressed by Hertz speakers recently. SPL2K, got any hands on with those? I know they don't make a "marine" line, but still nice. http://www.hertzaudiovideo.com/default_en.htm Energy line or higher.

Yes, I do a ton of Hertz also. It used to be my main "go to" line until the new Rockford Marine equipment came out. Hertz is still my fave for cars.

SPL2K - Mike,
You should start posting stereo build threads like from the mold. You do some really cool stuff and always good work.

Exile pretty much competes with wetsounds , except they offer other products besides the HLCD for towers. It seems that the camps are divided between wetsounds and exile, at least in the wakeboat boat world. Both make quality products.
