The dude riding the atv created the situation for which he is paying for w/pain and rehab. What's the saying often used around here?
Stupid should hurt!
Well, that was plenty stoopid and I believe his newly created pain is proportionate.....I believe that is self inflicted behaviour modification right there. Will he evolve to be less stoopid?
Time will tell.

Yes, but the LEO should be charged with reckless endangerment on this one.

For saving pedestrians?
It's damned if ya do and damned if ya don't. If he had let him by and the atv plowed thru the cyclists/pedestrians he would have been crucified for not doing his job.....
Myself, I prefer he prevent injury to innocent people then mop up after the fact, but I guess I'm wierd that way....lol

Here's a thought.......
Maybe the LEO witnessed the atv rider doing wreckless/dangerous shit, possibly harrassing the cyclists etc. that we didn't see prior to what's visible on the video. Maybe what he WITNESSED compelled him to make that choice/move?
Ya suppose that's possible?

Regardless of whether the cop was acting on good faith to protect the pedestrians he just passed, and regardless of how stupid the rider of that ATV is driving that fast on that roadway, that police department will ultimately get sued and pay that rider. Someone summon up Larry H. Parker and lets get his take 😂

Chances are he’s one of the 12 o’clock boys you see taking over streets and intersections across the country; mostly in hood areas.

Time to start accepting responsibility for your own stupid actions.
Riding down a street is cause for that??

I’m guilty of doing it on occasion on a quad (fuck off @Happy Smitty ) 😂
But a traffic ticket is warranted here, maybe even impounding the bike, but not wiping a guy across a car.

Is this a bike/hiking trail or roadway?

From the article:

The officer entered the park using Farnam Drive, which is only for pedestrian traffic, and came across an ATV driving on the road at a high rate of speed as many pedestrians, including families with children, walked in the vicinity, according to police.

Hard to argue that one. You’re riding on a pedestrian trail you get what you got.

I find it amazing that some think it’s ok to almost kill a guy for what amounts to a minor infraction..

it’s ridiculous IMO

You say that now...

But if it was you and your whole family 100 yards around the corner, about to get run over by some stupid fucking idiot, you might feel a bit different about it?

Fuck that dumb kid. Hats off the cop for making the correct (split second) decision. 👏

When tough take but if the atv was being chased by another cop I’d say it’s just fine got what he deserved.

If it was lic to be on the road it’s just a speeding ticket cop pulled across to fast for guy to slow it down. Would the cop have done that to a car or truck coming other way??

That would explain why the cop was driving so damn slow. I'd bet that there were complaints about ATV's riding in there in the recent weeks and why he was patroling it

The article is very well detailed. I wish I wouldn’t have posted the video and let people read the article first before they pulled an RD and jumped to conclusion.

From the article:

Police said the crash happened when an officer assigned to a detail focused on addressing ongoing complaints of illegal and reckless drivers in the city went to East Rock Park around 3:40 p.m. Sunday in response to reports that a group of riders was congregating there.

No. Did you not see the parents walking with their child on the bicycle 5 seconds before?

And?

You say that now...

You are making the assumption he was gonna run someone over?

This is a minor infraction and the cop damn near killed it for it.. (that could very easily go either way).

What’s next run a stop sign and get strung up by your balls?

I don’t give a shit what that article said, almost killing a guy for riding an ATV on a walkPath is way out of line. And you can say pull an RD all you want, but the reality is that’s fucking crazy to do in any scenario.

The problem is that if the cop let him go by and turn around just in time for the camera to catch the guy running over the family you would be saying the cop should have swerved into the atv's way to protect the family that he knew was there. The guy was breaking the law in multiple ways, this shit has to stop

Cops do stupid and unnecessary stuff all the time, and sometimes they do what they need to do to make things better and safer for all of us.

In this scenario, stupid and unnecessary belongs completely to the dipshit riding that ATV. Hats off to the cop for doing a good job here. This is exactly what I would expect and hope cops in my community would do to protect my neighbors, friends and family.

The F stick was going way too fast On the Quad.

If you watch the video a few times the F- stick doesn’t respond ( like Slow Down ) until it’s way to late.

So F. S. Is riding down a pedestrian trail and sees a car heading his way and doesn’t respond - let up on the gas, slow down Or Turn Around GTFO !

I P D A….. Traffic School BS !
