Got a call to go look at a couple boats here in Carlsbad.
Owner went into assisted living and family is cleaning up the house.
Thought of you as one of them was an old Tahiti.
I looked it over, if I was looking at a Vdrive, it would barely be worth the time to pull it out of there.
But, figured if anyone would know someone wanting to restore a 21foot Tahiti it would be you.
I see maybe the tanks and exhaust manifolds, and the OG gas pedal and an engine core as some value but that’s about it.
I know the Panther pump is not super desirable.
Looks like they have seats from an outboard sitting in it.
I told the daughter that there is just no value here.
She does have all the pink slips.
Let me know your thoughts.
Anybody else interested jump on in!

Same thing with this beauty.
Is it even worth the time to pull it out of there.
If it is, someone reach out to me.

I got 5 bucks for the volleyball if it holds air. other than that , you might be better donating for tax credit.

The outboard on the stand might be of some interest for Garage art..

If they paid 5k to haul it away you may end with a running boat at a decent price

This has that merc motor in it, 1/2 a 460. 460 stroke, bore and cylinder head. Pretty solid motor actually, that thing would be a good dock banger as long as the engine isn't locked up.
They scoot pretty good inna sand rail with a little turbo on em👍😎

I know, seen some old forums talking about that, guys also ran them in dirt oval and a few guys ran them in a supercomp chassis.

I rebuilt one for a customer about 12 years ago, it was a "fresh rebuild" that went south in less than 30min. The guy that rebuilt it put the pistons in backwards and put stock 460 rod bearings in it. We couldn't find the proper bearings (backordered for like 3 months) so I used 460 bearings but measured and narrowed them to fit the journal width since it's a 4cyl now and not an 8cyl. Customer is a friend of my dad's and he has 200+ hours on it now.

Looks like a Chevy setup in the Tahiti? I’d be interested in that for a rebuildable setup to replace my Olds. Of course I’d take the whole thing off your hands.

Yeah it’s all there.
Be a perfect way to get all the parts.
Hoping we can just pull it out of there just to do them a favor.

Awesome! Keep me posted. I'm in the SGV and can shoot down there any weekend with my flatbed trailer and drag it home. How do the tires look on the trailer? Think it would be road worthy?

Just to get rid of them is a pain. You have to pull the engine out in order to take it to the landfill.
I just want the engine. I'll donate the rest to a Pacoima homeless encampment!

As of this morning, the father is pushing back on getting rid of anything.
But it has to go.
Gonna take some Family persuasion and a little time it looks like.
Let ya know when I hear something.
Thanks for the update sir!

It doesn't matter how much you pay to join the club, dues are due when they are due, and owning a boat has learning curve that's not cheap. You need money, and you need good friends.

Both those boats look like simple repairs, if you want to get on the water and ski. Even that 4 cylinder (3.7 L), would pull me out. L lot of elbow grease. If I was 18 again, and need a boat, Id get either one, if dad would let me keep it behind the fence, but Im 64, and dad says no, but my kids have their own place now. 😂😂😂

Here is how its done…its called roadworthy rescue.

😂

Holy crap!!! Woohoo! I'll PM you good sir
Since PMs have limitations…
Shot a few pictures today.
Tires look good and it had a brand new spare.
Lug pattern appears to be 5 x 4.500?
We can stop by my house and get pressure right in the tires.
Thinking Sunday next week would work best for me.
Let me know.

Best advice I can give -

Some assembly required.
Batteries not included.
3 years and up.
Limit one per customer.
Driver's responsibly to tighten lugs.
All warranties, expressed, written or implied, are not transferrable.

5 years, 50,000 miles, or until it gets wet, whichever occurs first.
Unleaded fuel only.
Not all offers good in all states.
Cash value ⅒ of 1¢.
Not including tax, license and doc. fees.
Void where prohibited.

You have been warned.

Dan'l

Great score, BTW 👍

Any idea if the engine turns? If it does, it'll run. Don't even wash it....just put some batteries and fresh gas and back it down the ramp with at least one flat tire on the trailer (bonus points if you can find an old demo-derby car to launch it with....needs the headers sticking straight up through the hood though, if it has a hood...double bonus points if it don't), then go cruise. You'll have more fun than everyone else who's wiping the water spots off their shit and arguing about setting beers down on the deck with our without coozies.

I put a wrench on the crank and it's not turning over easily. I'm a big fucker and I had to really lean into it. It's coming out and apart

Fuck ya! Thanks.

I was 5 1/2 when my grandma, dad's mom, was killed in a freak car accident. She was half Cherokee from Oklahoma and she would watch me 3 days a week. She was a smoker and would leave her lit cigarette on the tile countertop in the kitchen and I'd sneak a puff now and then. She saw me and mentioned it to my parents and suggested that I should learn the proper way to smoke. I'm still amazed to this day but they agreed. So we were smoking buddies. When my folks got the news of the accident they dropped me off at my aunt and uncles and went to the hospital to see her. I don't remember if they actually were able to talk to her before she died. Back at my aunt and uncles uncle Bill and I went to get some burgers in his bad ass '55 chevy, bad ass for 1961. We were going through an intersection and a driver ran a red light, uncle Bill jammed on the brakes and kneeling on the front seat I was launched like a missile through the windshield. I have no memory of it and was recently talking to my aunt about it. She's the last one of that generation I have left, and said 'well you did have a pretty serious concussion'. The first of several.
It cracked me up as a teenager just how pissed my parents would get when I would smoke. 'Grandma taught me with your permission!' It's a habit I still struggle with. Can go a decade without it. Bum one out drinking and it's back on.

So the first time I actually quit smoking was in August 1961. Fucking monkey's been tracking me down for 64 years.

How was that one?

Any chance of getting a pic of the ID plate by the shifter? Wonder if dad rigged it.
