Glad my daughter isn't interested in going there

it’s a good school. That’s where I went and I turned out okay.

I toured Yale, Penn and Quinnipiac this summer with the step-daughter. Those schools were boring as hell but I’ll push my 15 year old in that direction because I’ll sleep better at night knowing she’s in bed by 8pm lol

I am married to a Sun Devil…….

ASU worked out extremely well for her. Finance degree, MBA, Juris Doctor (law)

I am just a beneficiary LOL

My girlfriend went to Arkansas State and has a law degree. Even Arkansas can turn out some decent degrees lol

She’s got more initials after her name than the amount of letters in her actual entire name 😂

Back when I was down there in the 80's, I'm sure shockers were a common thing after a night at the Devil House! Good times!

Just saw they are closing ASU campus in Havasu next summer.
Wife told me the same today. Was thinking that was what this thread was about.

Yep they just walked in today and said that they were closing it, no notice or ideas on how to keep it open even the staff had no clue. Since the announcement not only did the mayor but one of the local congressman have called out the school not only because the city has invested directly in the campus but also as it’s the only place to get a 4 year degree for the local community. It will definitely be sad to see it go especially as someone that just graduated from there this may.

Found the following in an article.

The recently signed state budget decreased funding for ASU by about $11 million. With associated statewide programs cut or significantly reduced, it’s impacting the university’s bottom line by about $24 million overall compared to 2023.

The university is also closing the Lake Havasu Center, which currently serves about 225 ASU students and 20 staff members.

ASU had no choice. You can’t maintain a campus when the enrollment to faculty number is 11 to 1. The national average is 18 to 1.

I guess it's always a possibility, but one family donated over a million dollars to ASU to get that going.

It’s not that I’m opposed to the shocker technique or anything, but isn’t that good way to get poop all over your pinky finger, and under your finger nail? Just asking an honest question.

The interesting part is since 2020 their budget has increased by more than 20% and they have a net worth of 6.4 billion….yes it did go down this year but it seems more likely to me that this is a stunt to “prove” that they need more money

ASU grad here. Fall 2010 - Spring 2015. They came out with the fork sign while i was there. Thought it was odd but they stuck with it. Actually a great school now days. The crazy party side of it has died down some with the times. Networking in LA im always happy to meet other Sun Devils that are kicking ass. Great memories, great school, great education.

Funny thing, I told my three kids that was the only college they couldn't go to. Funny how we all have different perspectives

In state tuition. Our daughter is getting merit scholarships so it’s less than sending her to a JC. Might even be 100% covered.

If we can’t trust her judgment by now it doesn’t matter where we send her. She has two jobs and gets straight A’s. Some are not like others.

THIS!!!!

If you don’t feel you can trust your kids to make smart choices, or at the very least change course when they realize the choice they made was incorrect or inappropriate then there is a deeper problem.

Our kid graduates in December from ASU with a professional flight degree and a commercial pilot certification.

He’ll walk on as an instructor for the ASU flight program to build 750 hours of flight time then choose from a wide variety of good paying flight positions. Instant career with a solid future and he loves flying.

The shocker thing is weird for sure, but it is typical that the academic know-it-alls don't have a clue of the real world 🤡. As far as ASU, its like every other money hungry, lib spewing school. LOL it just reaffirmed my son’s conservative values..

Nothing wrong with ASU in terms of academics or even pricing. I have some friends that went there 30 years ago, they aren't very quick with their thoughts, so we always blame their education, just a long running joke.

My oldest went to NAU, graduated top of his class as an engineer, he had a great experience. He also got a scholarship and WUE discount, same as in-state tuition. My other two kids went to CSU campuses, Fullerton and Long Beach State. My wife changed jobs before the other two kids went off to college, she works for CSU now, so those kids got the family discount, $600 a semester, hard to beat.

All good...........

If you like to get an education on The Swamp, and what happens when politicians try to stop the “Woke” ideology, just take a look at this story. “WOKE” was just a smokescreen for a complete fleecing of taxpayer funds.

What is happening to Florida is going to be happening nationwide. In todays paper, it has just happened again….. At another taxpayer funded school. A Small University by Bradenton with 700 students. That fleecing will be 200 million.

The link below tells the FSU fleecing.

Net worth means nothing in higher education. Most of that is based on the land and buildings the university owns.
Now the endowment is something else. At the end of fiscal year 2023, the ASU endowment reached $1.5B. A 5.8% increase for fiscal year 2023, which ended June 30.

The issue with ASU Havasu, is 100% lack of enrollment growth. Average attendance (200 a semester) never grew at projected numbers, which limited what could be done. They needed to prove the concept would work in that region. It did not and ASU could not justify the budget and endowment dollars required to maintain budget shortfall.

All 3 Arizona universities are my customers. Each one has tried satellite campuses and all 3 have failed.

Couldn't agree more. I dropped my kid off at UCSD last weekend for her very first quarter (kid scored an awesome ocean-view dorm btw...!). Wife and I have spent the last 18+ years training and preparing for this moment. I left her feeling totally confident that she'll continue to kick ass no different than she's been doing all her life and I have no worries about her succeeding whatsoever.

Not to make this a total thread-jack, I recently learned the UCSD Tritons also use the shocker - seems to be pretty popular with the kids these days...:

My oldest daughter went to the one a little further north, NAU.

Got her PhD in Environmental Science from NAU. Now teaches at CSU where she got her Masters in Environmental Science.

She really enjoyed tutoring & helping the Native American students at NAU. She did that for another year after she graduated. She holds a special place in her heart for the original Natives of this country.

Not to nit pick but there are no natives. Those people came from Asia. I hope you find this as funny as I do
