My problem with him is that he is only here for a singular purpose. Adds no content, only wishes to unload cars, period. Guys like you that also have spots have proven your membership here through participation.

He’s nothing but a profiteering, obnoxious troll .

Agreed. If no one acknowledged him, he’d be irrelevant. But…

To add: It's not unlike the Mercury Racing outboards. Guys jump through their asses to get the newest, latest greatest 500's, selling used 450's and 400's becomes more difficult. I'm sure that Mercury already has something bigger, badder faster on transoms at Lake X as we speak.
The development and expansion of Mercury's big outboard lineup over the last ten years is an incredible engineering and manufacturing accomplishment. I know next to nothing about those big engines, and have never been in a boat powered by them, but I'm in total awe of the program and product.

Mercury owns the big outboard market in a domination that's unparalleled in the modern history of performance internal combustion engines, not just the marine market. There is literally no competition. No comparable achievement in any type of performance powerplant this century, be it automotive, aviation, marine, or otherwise, has been so impressive. It's not just the engine. The range of horsepower, the drive systems, the transmission in the 600, and the packaging equal totally incredible machines over the entire product line.

No I think you are fine. I just wouldn’t try to turn a Ranger into a high performance machine right now based on “what’s coming in 18 months” would be my point.

I was talking to another member about this last night. All these top line cars can cruise at 90 now. There is no real need to go 90+ out in the desert by yourself. I mean rally cars don’t go much faster than that on a full on rally stage, and that is a full on race car 😂.
Exactly. At what point does this just get to be 70k mini trophy trucks called sxs’s?

Or is building a dual purpose buggy the cheap way out of this now?

You know I have a hard on for a fully enclosed with sport chasis! But I cant see myself doing the 70k dance for it!

The easy way out is to buy 2 year old garage queen UTVs every 2 years and be done. I can afford to do that. I can’t afford to buy the latest and greatest every 2 years and lose $20k every time in depreciation.

I understand the want to have “the best” but next year it won’t be “the best”anyway because the new one will have 5 more HP.

But if you are just cruising with friends, who cares? This is just like boats.. we all get there. If you roll up 2 mins later, what does it matter? If you aren’t going to go do 120 out there in the dirt, why buy or build a car capable of it?

On our last 700 mile Peace trail trip I had probably the crappiest car in the group. No one drove away from me, I got out of the car each day feeling fine. There was a 5 mile section on a rough gas line road by Golden Shores where the guy with the Pro R walked away from me.. walked away from all of us actually. My car just couldn’t go any faster through that crap. It was impressive seeing that car just motor off and get on top of it.

But that was 5 miles out of 700. The other 695 we were all together more or less. It didn’t matter that I had a 64” wide car based on a 10 year old design.

I can tell you this, we just ran Vegas to Reno this past Friday and it was 520+ miles. In our Pro R we didn’t even look at the belt gauge the entire race and the belt still looks amazing when we got done. so as far as the pro R is concerned the belt issues don’t exist anymore.

My 23 year old nephew is a junior engineer in the SXS development group at Polaris and said that they are testing shit that is 10+ years out from the public. He's a super sharp kid and said it's like the Lockheed Skunk Works over there. It's going to be a battle every single year amongst manufacturers which is good for everyone except for the price increases.

The little fuk'r is tight lipped and won't give up anything!🤨

At the price point of most of these sxs, you could be in nice used sandrail or desert car. I couldn't see me buying a new sxs ever again, they depreciate too fast. A new boat is totally different 😁
I’ve got that dual sport you’re talking about, and at 52k no serious bites, yet to duplicate today would be 150-175k it’s crazy how hot the sxs action really is.

My only question is, when will price increases end? I’m all for 100MPH go carts but I’d rather send my kids to private school for $1,500 a month than have a $1,500 a month UTV payment.

As much as it pisses members off, the dude is gonna have a pair of Speed cars for free just selling what he has for MSRP 😂.

And they sell for MSRP in a couple days.

Did Dave sell his?

70K side by sides is so 2018....

100k seems to be the new 70k, looking at some of these builds.

It's because nobody has the trailer / toy hauler to fit the big rails and dual sport cars, they can't finance them (usually), and they are scared of the maintenance.
It so much easier to just go to Berts, sign some papers, and stuff that 6' wide car in your trailer between the fold down couches. Drop it off when something explodes and get it fixed under extended warranty.

Nice trucks are $100k, nice boats are $300k.

You don’t HAVE to buy any of the above. There are $30k UTVs that will be fine for you.

It seems like after the crash of 07’ - 09’ a lot of people sold their sand rails and switched to SXS‘s due to cost and maintenance, for me when im at the dunes I still get a rush when Im driving my rail that has 800 Hp, I do find my self in my RZR a lot due to the fact that Im the only rail in the group. I can honestly drive just as hard and have just as much fun in my SXS so I see both sides of ownership. The one major down side is when theres a bigger maintenance item needed on the rail it’s usually going to be a 5+k tranny fix or a 10-15k motor freshen up. SXS hands down is way lower maintenance and owner ship costs. It seems like the SXS market is way over inflated and people still keep paying a premium price. 🤷🏼‍♂️ no idea when we will see prices go down.

Steve I don't see you personally driving the new can-am, or whatever top dog you can get now all out with your family in the car. I don't with my 2023 X3. They are with me half the time. When its just me running with the boys we are all out. And break shit often. But I don't keep my stuff too long and bite the bullet for the 20-30K upgrade every couple years. I was hoping the X3 would be more durable but I've thrown a ton of aftermarket parts to it to keep it running the last few months. Think I bought the car it in April or May this year.

Have a 2019 Northstar Crew Ranger as well. Will pick up the 1500 next spring. The new 1500 car blows away the old Northstars in just AC alone not to mention new cab, engine, seats, etc.

I look at it as just a drop in the bucket for what running a big boat costs and have almost as much fun as I did with the DCB and a hell of a lot less effort. I think my kids liek the sxs stuff maybe better. I'm sure Ill get into another cat in the future but just needed a break from all the upkeep and breakdowns.

That’s true, and also why I don’t have a new of either. Must be lots of people making poor decisions out there.

1000% agree. I drive like an old lady with the family in it. Truth told, I am in L most of the time. Our roads in Munds Park/Flagstaff are pretty rocky and slow. The road from Munds down to Sedona (Schnebly Hill) is 5 miles from the lookout to the Sedona payment. Its 2 hours in my Ranger. Its miserable.

And yes, the AC is marginal at best. Back seat folks get nothing. Its better at just pressurizing the cab to keep the dust out.

Go have a look at the Mexico/Canada SxS thread.

Absolutely agree with you on the AC, Mine is pretty damn good till 95. Wife likes it for no dust but hates the seating in them. New ones have some bolsters and arm rest so I think she will like that a lot more. Seen quite a few of the reviews on the new AC and sounds like it kicks ass all the way up to 110 heat which we will never see up here.

The drivers position sucks, flat out. My left foot has nowhere to sit comfortably. You being bigger than me, probably notice it more.

And where is Suzuki? Are they going surprise us all?
Suzuki still has kick starters on their MX bikes and have almost no R&D here in the US. My understanding is their owners declared them a "global car company" and not a MC/off road company several years ago.

Probably a better chance of a Speed/Polaris merger than a sport Suzuki SXS. 😂
