So I guess until we hear otherwise, all that gorgeous water that is in the lake now is useless!!!
Sewage line broke Tuesday Night! Damn you Oak Shores! (It was an Oak shores sewage line)
BY KSBW Action News 8
A sewer line running under Lake Nacimento broke Tuesday night, sending sewage spewing into the pristine lake and thousands of gallons of lake water gushing into a water treatment plant, health officials said.
The submerged broken pipe is part of the Oak Shores Wastewater Treatment Plant?s sewer collection system.
A crew with the treatment plant is attempting to locate the exact location of the breach.
The County of San Luis Obispo Public Works Department issued an urgent health warning Wednesday afternoon.
Residents and visitors who get their drinking water from the lake should avoid all use of the water, including drinking, bathing and cooking.
This health warning applies in Oak Shores, Lake Nacimiento Resort and the North Shore Boat and Ski Club communities.
Residents should drink only bottled water or water that has been boiled for at least three minutes.
In addition, health officials ordered recreational enthusiasts to avoid swimming or any other contact with Lake Nacimiento until laboratory testing shows the lake water is safe for recreational use.
People who have been in contact with Nacimiento Lake water, especially in the Oak Shores area today, who exhibit symptoms such as fever, sore throat, cough, respiratory illness, nausea and intestinal upset, are advised to see a physician immediately.
Questions can be directed to the San Luis Obispo County Public Health Department, Environmental Health Services at 805-781-5544 or the County Public Works Department at 781-5267.
Before the sewage pipe broke, officials were releasing water from the lake over its spillway to bring the water level down. A season of drenching storms and runoff had filled the 18-mile-long lake to over capacity for the first time in decades.
Water was still being released over the spillway Wednesday afternoon despite the sewage pipe break, officials said.
The lake provides flood control, water for farmers, and prevents saltwater intrusion into the valley's aquifer. Stretched between coastal mountains, it's also popular among fun-seekers for water skiing, white bass fishing, and boating.
