Sooo...how about an old school Mallory dual point with tach drive?

I just picked up this complete 283(519 block).Got it home pulled the valve covers.
Phuck me running...772 original Corvette fuelie heads.62thru 65.
I'm curious...did the early Vettes have 3 speeds?
It's a 327 if it's a Vette Fuelie, and 62 of them were ordered with the base 3 speed in 62. If it's a 283, then someone built it themselves. Real 340HP fuelie 327's had 7 finned aluminum valve covers from the factory.

519 Block tells me it's a 283...
The 772 fuelie heads were a Corvette 1×4 or 2×4 option 62/thru 65.according to my research.
I'm confused. Guy I got it from said it came out of his 62 Impala?
Anyway...did the early 283's have forged steel cranks or cast?
Appreciate your input...!

Damn you want to make it harder on them boys! We talking about Ferrari V8 with the twin coils or the Prince of Darkness and the Lucas twin distributors and ignition systems for the Jag V12's ? :p😆

Most people got no idea how interesting this shit gets the older you go.
I was thinking more Harmon Collins or WH. We are talkin rat rods….

The base power package back in 62-65 was the 327 with a 3 speed for corvettes.

I just looked it up, same for Impala, base power was the 250hp 327 with a Power Glide.

If this came out of his 62 Impala it most likely was done as an alteration or a swap if it had a 409/4 spd in it to make a driver? Hard to determine unless he was the only owner.

Those heads came on lots of mouse motors back then, not just fuelies, so pretty easy to see someone stick them on a 283 and make great high revving power.

Most 283 cranks are forged, but they are used in the 327 as well, as cast cranks for the low hp models.

They look different though :

Hope that helps.

Brakes are highly over rated. That's why most of those barely have floor boards. Flintstone style if need be. I will say when the ratrod craze came about and some of the junk rolling around was down right scary. No thank you.
Are you the hot rod shop in ventura county ?

What’s it got for a transmission.

I know some people. PM me with details. I’ll send out some emails.

Ferrari? Jag?...way outa my wheelhouse.
Lincoln V-12, dual coil...that's what I've messed with. Even Spalding converted for a flatty, and had a few Harmon Collins dual coils...the mags always gave me trouble on the street though.

I’d keep it forever if it was mine. I regret every truck I ever sold. After Obama took over and ruined GM, if the Republicans don’t take the House and Senate, your grandchildren may never see a real truck or Hot Boat.

Looks like a nice straight car. Whats it got for drivetrain?

Guy wouldn’t give him the receipts for some damn reason. He did get to look
At them

But it has a very health small block, trans brake, reverse manual valve body.

I think it was bracket raced. On the shifter it has a dial in reminder sticker and has a battery in the truck with external on off.

It’s the fastest thing I have ever been in. Easily fries the tires all the way through second and a bit into third.

Are you gonna put the engine in your sprint car resto?

After bringing it home, I discovered the 1963 427 FE low riser installed in my Howard V-drive had a Mallory dual point with a Ford data plate on it. It was original to the engine, and brought back memories.

When you and I were in high school, I did some work on Russ Shelton's Camaro and Benny Abruzzo's Bronco. Both vehicles got a new intake manifold, cam, headers, and a Mallory DP distributor. The benefits of the distributor were negligible, but that's what they wanted to do.

I also built a stout rollbar for the Bronco, which was a good thing when Benny and Rick Quant rolled it at Montgomery and Morris around 2 AM one drunk night.

I remember the night Benny&Quant rolled on Montgomery...those 2 were nuts together.
Good times weren't they?
I was friends with Russ Shelton(RIP)He was a good guy.
As for the 283...I'm gonna drop it in this old jalopy I'm restoring. That's what it originally had when it ran Speedway Park back in the day.

Different car. That is a buddy Scott's old car. He bought my blue 69 Camaro from me. I don't know much history on that car. I do know the engine was gone through semi recently before he sold it. Is it your's now?

Yes, Bought it from Scott. I asked him about the car and he didn't have much info either. I have had to change a bunch of stuff. I thought he said he bought it from Florida
Maybe that is why no Info . Receipts he gave shows the engine was refreshed and that it should be a 502 .30 over. The rear coil overs were riding bottomed out, Had to shorten the coil overs, Riding bottomed bent a 4-link bar and bent the panar bar, Heim joints warn out. Rear end was moving 1" either way when driving.....couple
more burnouts could of ripped the rear of the car off with those 33' tires . Still working some of the bugs out, But I love the car. Well you will be the first shop to see the car if i need some things done more than i can handle. In his ad he stated it won car shows and he had the trophy's to prove it . I think he had the car for a little while,
Car ran shitty so he refreshed it. Looking at the car, not a whole lot is recent or new. Only talking with him a little i do not know how much mechanically he knew any way.

He is not a mechanical guy. Hell his buddy probably drove it more than him because he was usually pretty sauced.up.
