I am a long time chevy guy stuck in the 2005 with a 6 liter gas truck that has performed flawlessly for 13 years. BUT, the new ford super duty 6.2 gas has incredible specs at 385 hp 430 tq and 15000 pounds of towing. The gas engine tech has really been worked out across the big 3 over the past years and I would expect any of them to reliably go 250k miles and beyond. I would be looking to tow 12000 lbs from Phoenix to Powell once a year.... that's it! The math on the diesels don't pencil out for me. I would rent a truck once a year before I paid to drive a diesel around unloaded 51 weeks a year. Who is hauling with the newer ford 6.2.

The 6.2L in my GMC Sierra Denali is a beast! It makes more power than the ford and tows like a dream!

My River neighbor has 2 of them. My Chevy gets better mpg. I just picked up a new one from Jason. My 06 has 160k on it now. Made me 10 times the money my F450 did reliably. The new 2500 tows even better. I just hauled my boat to Phoenix and towed at 80 like it was not there. It is rated at 14,500 towing. Tow receiver has a 2000 lb tongue weight 20k rated. I sold my F550 as the new 2500 tows better and gets double the mpg.

Diesel you start saving after a 100k miles. My last one I put 80k miles on in 10 years. It avg 16.8 mpg round trip not towing. New Gas avg was 14.7 round trip and on the best it shows 18.6 avg for 50 miles. I looked at the compatible diesel as my old it was sticker price $68,500. I have 2 new diesel work trucks already so if I have to tow over 14,500lbs I can drive one of them.

My break even point was 66000 miles for diesel. I would estimate that 100k is closer to break even now as NicPaus stated.

Until an injector or pump fails...now you start all over and then some
I was told to not buy the warranty on the gasser as it was 5k to swap in a new motor. Buy the extended on the diesels before the 3rd year if I still have them. Fuel pump goes out it is 11K at dealer.

I'd stick with 3.73 gear. Using the 4.30 ratio would make the truck even thirstier than it's already with the 3.73
My Ecoboost is only 10 Hp and 10 torque less, but max torque is in much lower than this 6.2's at 3800 rpm.

192,000 miles on original motor and tranny and fuel system etc and no issues. 17 years.

If I had to get a new truck today it would likely be gas because of increased gas performance, increased diesel package price and complexity.

We just bought a '17 F250 gasser for the business. I'm pretty impressed. More than enough power and it rides/drives great. We use it to pull a large trailer mounted pressure washer that has a 350 gallon water tank. Loaded up full you really don't feel much back there.
