I grew up racing at the Ranch Pit Shop as a kid. Back when we were running home made nitro 10th scale trucks. I kept with it and picked up a few minor sponsors. I get into and out of racing every few years. ALWAYS wanted to run 1/8 on road. So awesome. They just built and AMAZING track at Fontana speedway (steel city RC) that has me really looking into running one.

they are saying expected speeds of 80+ down that straight. some of the guys i race with are building cars to run there. the money they are spending on the cars is crazy, one guy told he has passed the 3 grand mark is not done. the cars are absolutely nuts, thought about it for half a heartbeat until i looked at the pricing. ill stick to 1/10 scale offroad for now. and make the jump to 1/8 offroad down the line. will definantly go to steel city to check it out though.

I did 1/8 scale stadium truck for a while nitro, also did 1/10 scale nitro touring cAr.

I had a TC3 that wouldn’t quit. I ended up parting it out. My stadium truck was hard on motors so I bent a few rods in that thing at 24000 rpm they grenade , ask me how I know lol. I have always like 1/5 scale but could never afford it.

What’s a good 1/8 scale buggy to get into with parts readily available and that doesn’t break the bank? Anyone got a used one for sale?

Im looking to get into carpet track racing. My buddy owns SCVRC in Santa Clarita, indoor carpet track. Air conditioned, no mess to clean up on the cars so shock oil stays pristine clean too. He changes the layout every month because it is easy to do so, and mega traction. I'm looking to get a B6 or B6.1 buggy and run blinky / stock class

i have ran at SCVRC and the traction is incredible. i thought i would be close set up wise with my OCRC (clay high bite) but i was so far off it was funny. slam the ride height and stiffen the shocks and it was a alot of fun, but a steep learning curve not being able to slide the car and the instant response from throttle and turning. cant go wrong with either of those cars, the only reccomendation i would have is go gear diff not ball. my fresh ball diff was smoked after one race day at SCVRC and i will 6-8 race days on clay on the same ball diff.

I've got a hot bodies d817 and a d817t. Haven't raced since the beginning of May in Vegas. The yard is a pretty cool track to go run at

Yea it is hard on diffs for sure! Eric got some new tires in stock that work really well with the current condition of the carpet. He keeps letting me drive cars that are fully setup and tricked out with "all the money" in them, and it just depresses me with what RC stuff I have lol

I’ll make you a great deal on my RC8 rolling chassis. It is in great shape.

The carpet stuff is nuts.. about the closest I have ran to that was at M&M in Corona. We used to run full slicks all around.. they put pimp juice in the clay late at night.. the track was like walking on a drag strip in the heyday.

1/8 buggy is not as bad.

$500-700 for a car, $200 for servos, engine for $250-500, $80 for a good pipe.

You’d still need a starter box and some ancillary crap, but $1100-$1200 for a full setup, assuming you have a transmitter and receiver.

You can literally cut that figure in half going with a used car, and a couple other items.

im well aware and have almost pulled the trigger, and could get a used car pretty cheap from some guys i know. i have a spare radio and reciever so i can knock those off of the list. the problem is with our daughter showing up in early september, and trying to buy a house in november / december we are saving every dime we can. i just talked to a buddy and im going to pit for him at a race coming up and he is going to let me run his truggy. so i got that going for me.

Nice, and yes, I know how that goes.

If you might want my RC8, let me know. There are enough fresh spares to build another car. Or I could just build the 2nd car and sell you and Ian each a car :)

What is funny is that the costs for 1/8 scale buggy seem to be about the same as they were 15-20 years ago.

I noticed last time around with my RC8 that the “average guy” has access to better engines now though.

Used to race 1/10 stock truck there almost every Friday nights and sundays for years. But then wimminz, full size cars and boats took all my money.

Yep, same here. That Jack in the Box @ Green River used to have 3 grease tacos for $1. I can’t tell you how many nights 6 tacos were dinner.

Reading all this brings back memories. I used to race it all, on road, off-road, buggies, trucks, but 1/12 scale on road cars - my favorite. I spent several days a week at Bob & Jim’s indoor carpet track in Riverside. I remember getting a lot of help from Tony Neisinger, who was there often. My parents or grandparents would take my brother and I there to race and practice, just like any other sport. We raced all over Socal too. A few years ago, I found all the magazines and boxes of trophies in moms attic. My wife wasn’t really impressed lol.

It was a shock when I got back into 1/10 pan. Everything was different, I found out the hard way about needing to sauce foams for prepared tracks (I hit every board on my first lap). ESC's instead of resistors, computerized battery chargers, com lathes and adjustable timing. I still have all of that stuff packed away that lipos and BL made obsolete. 100's of Nicad packs and loose cells, can after can of brushed motors, 500piece bags of silver brushes (and brush cutter/com lathes). Just about every computerized charger made during the era including a couple of Hi-IQ's with the massive 1 farad zapper for reviving cells and zapping can magnets. So many memories are rushing back.

Oh, and two huge plastic totes full of foams (mounted and donuts) in zip lock bags that are probably all hard and cracked. Maybe someone should start a vintage class for racing so I can use this crap.

i bought my pan car rc10l used from pegasus hobbies and ran it around revalation (holt and benson i think) raceway a few times but didnt actually race it. was stupid fast and blown away at how well foam tires stuck to that surface. i wonder how fast it would run with a mamba max brushless setup and 3c lipo... lol

I did Nitro RC offroad for about a year, found that my aircraft cost me less LOL! so I sold the cars, and now I am looking for a rock crawler. they keep me out of trouble. but have fun racing them again I love the smell of nitro fuel! and two stroke! lately I have gotten into gasoline engines on my planes as well and it is the way to go!

Well LOF and I went today to revalation raceway in Ontario. We had a blast “practicing” started to get the jump timing down right before we left. Definitely hooked now. I noticed we were going through a lot of fuel and LOF noticed that it was a fuel leak lol. We made it work for today. No pictures but plan on going back in a few weeks if anyone wants to come check it out.

I smell like nitro fuel and love it!

I got a Associated RC8B3.1.

BPRacing1127 is going to take my original RC8 and race it for now. Engine ran perfect. The car was pretty good, actually better than I expected with the SWAG setup I put in it. It needs a set of modern tires and another day of chassis tuning, some practice, and I think we will be ready to race.

Huckleberry RC track
4060 E. La Palma,
Anaheim, CA 92807
Electric only I see. I guess good thing I have both. That place is 10 min from house.

Another track I like is Montclair and it’s revalation raceway nitro and electric

How often do you go? With LOF moving away my rc days have been limited

I plan on getting another nitro truck also. I plan on going at least 2-3 times a month. Let me know next time you go.
