The fake synthetic stuff? Got a quote today for about 160 square feet in our back yard in Anaheim. It's the only section of grass in our backyard and its primarily a place for the dogs to take a pee, so as a result no grass is going to grow there. The rest of our backyard is hardscape and the pool so it's really the only place for dogs to do their thing.

Had no idea what this stuff costs, but $2600 for 160 square feet installed?

Is that what this stuff is going for?

My brother in law just put some in his back yard. $8-12 a square foot. Depending on style and quality of "grass"

I thought about it. But being that I'd need close to 5000 sq. ft. of it I figured it would cost more than I paid for my house. :D

I'm sure the sq ft. cost would go down if you had more sq. ft. ;)

BTW You have 2 pools...

Its the prep that is all the hard work. You can find a local supplier and buy the grass yourself.

Its not all that hard to do, and if its just a place for the dogs to pee you are probably not too concerned with prep.

That's crazy high. Sounds like the job is too small and they are bidding it high to make it worth their while. Call around until you find a company doing an install in the area and have them do yours the same day. You should be able to get a quality turf for well under $2k installed. Make sure you buy turf that will resist the dog piss. Keep in mind its probably going to hold the smell much more than real grass. There are different materials, some are more pet friendly. It's a little like like buying carpet. Also, get a guarantee in writing.

DON'T DO IT!!!! We have 2 labs and did the same thing. The fake grass retains the urine smell. It's blistering hot to their feet in the summer and the urine fades the grass. It will drain at 1st, but after a while the urine stays in the dirt. NO NO NO!!!!!!!!! Train them to concrete.

Put in artificial turf 4 years ago- best thing I ever did.

With three dogs pissing and crapping and shade and pool splash I could never keep a real lawn looking good.

cost a fortune- was worth it.

Looks so good I had a friend here for 3 days before he realized it was fake.

I got in in both the dog yard and my pool area and I love it. When it starts to smell, I rinse it down with a hose and that was only one time in 2 years since I've owned this house.

Costco...$3 sq ft for the good stuff and they offer installation. It's so easy that 160 sq ft should be less than a day's install. Level area, compact and add sand, lay down grass, cut the borders, and stake it in...

Also, my dad had his backyard done for 650 a foot in the IE...I'll try to get the contractors info.

Install on my deal was more complicated.

about three of dirt inches removed / sprinkler system left in place for easier wash down weekly.

3 sizes of progressively sized pebbles laid down then sand so there is always drainage

Before laying any product down- the whole thing was vibration weight sled compacted.

Damn, tough crowd, $2600 - $1200 = $1400 savings, sorry, math was not my strong point.

Now your $10 a sq ft. price maybe wrong. 160 sq ft x $10 = $1,600.

$2,600-$1,600= $1,000

You sell insurance. :D

Thanks for clarifying, I have found my error, the square feet was only 120, the 160 was my estimate. We can all sleep better now.

I do grass! Back yard every week with a ProMaster Reel Type mower cross cut, green style but the front lawn hasn't needed anything more than a blower from time to time since putting it in. The better the stuff, the longer it looks great. Some are so good they can even fool the animals.

There is the availability of all kind of grass which costs cheaper or costly..But its depends that how much you can afford and for how long you want to spread it out.To get the average cost turf is really good and beneficial. Its has the low costs and propvide the best quality which remain for a long time.
