I’m on my 3rd Mercedes and I’ve always liked them. Thinking of picking up a couple year old low mileage S63. Anyone have any first hand experience? Good, bad. I’ve had a standard S class before. I liked it a lot. S63 has 605HP and a bunch of creature comforts. I’ve been told run fast away from the S65’s.

Looking at similar.

Feed back? Good, bad, etc.

Mom has had hers a bunch of years. She loves it. Depreciation is huge on the AMG Mercedes.

They have their issues. Certainly in the shop more than a new car.

That said, they are rad cars. 👍

Both a 63 coupe and a 65 sedan.

Both were fine. No problems.

Like all cars if they get older and higher mileage they will break and require maintenance. And those repair costs will be proportional to their new purchase costs.

Yeah. I totally get that. My Eclass has 150k miles on it right now. Runs like a top! But I maintain it and stay on top of stuff. Great car. But I kinda stumbled upon it a couple years ago not by specific choice. I was thinking of getting a couple year old turbo 911 but then reality hit that I still have a teen and pre teen and need something that will comfortably fit 4. lol.

Buddy used to get a new S Class every few years. Best riding car I’ve been in. He did the S63 for a year and got rid of it. Badass ride on short commutes. Damn thing rode more like my GT500 and less like a luxury car.

Just order a lambo urus plug in hybrid, should begin production next year. Word is it will have 800+ hp! And they hold value, super dependable.

Only thing I’ve heard is that they ride a little “stiffer” than a regular S.

Brakes are expensive to do "right"...in terms of maintenance costs. The motor mounts seem to go 80-100k. The car isn't light, and that motor is a beast. The left hand will separate and the right will compress. Really no different than any other higher hp rwd car. The good thing is, labor to replace them is not bad at all. The bad thing is, Mercedes parts aren't cheap. On the flipside, it's not a very regular deal.

No, never owned one. Been fortunate enough to work on a couple though. Very nice rides, one of few "sedans" I really like.

You mean the Chevy trax or mustang Mach E? lol they all look the same. I see those urus’’ driving down the road they barely catch my eye. I think they’re a horrible devaluation of the brand. And electric?! I’ll never own an electric vehicle. Even my golf cart’s gas. 😂😂

@Tank my buddy is into these, he’s had a few big body Benzs and AMG’s thru the years. The S63 is quicker, especially from a dig as it should be AWD. The Bi-turbo 4.0 is a beast and has been around for a while now. They do ride a lot stiffer than a S560.

The S65 V12 was discontinued a few years back, reliability is questionable but who knows how the Saudi royal family is driving them…..lol There’s not alot of them out there compared to the V8 cars. They are a torque animal, almost diesel like.

He said S63 is the way to go if you are ok with the ride, but if your looking for that classic S-class smoothness, maybe look at a S560 and just tune it if you want that extra power without the harshness of the AMG suspension. The 560 also has the 4.0 Bi-turbo motor, but with a lower HP tune.

Either way -
Buy a warranty!

Buy a warranty let MBZ deal with that risk!
Thanks Jerry. I’m always willing to give a little to get a little so to speak. Stiffer ride? Meh. 😂

Nice ride.
My only suggestion is buy from a well known dealer and the best warranty available..
German cars are built great ...
Non warranty items will cost a bunch..
We have audi tdi with warranty till December.. looking to replace soon.(possibly Is500 or 350)
Bought porsche macan turbo super low miles and paid big money for warranty.. if anything breaks I'm sure we will be ahead having platinum warranty..

FYI, so many have flipped Lambos every two years they now have you sign a 12 month non sale doc. I know, I just signed one for an order, not due until 2025. You would be shocked of resale value, not many produced, so ordering with content is paramount. Plug in hybrids is the future, I anticipate nearly all cars will the they, even if “mild hybrid”, for immediate power.

Have an S550 and it is an amazing auto. It had been maintained by the book since new. I’ve got an independent MB shop that treats me very well. Service costs are Jiffy Lube prices, without the upsell. Parts are MB and discounted. Want an appointment, it’s two weeks out, drop it off and it’ normally ready the next day.
No expresso machines or new cars to look at, however, if you’re there at the right time Judge Judy is on.

I’m a huge fan of the disposable luxury vehicle. Buy them cheap and beat them like they owe you money. Lather, rinse, repeat. Currently ringing out an S550, no better cars on the planet.
Wife has had lease MBs for the last +20 years, the present S550 will be up in June. Never a major problem with the cars, just a series of "nuisance" issues with the foofoo electronics over the years. Looking at a few other marques for the next lease.

Got a 2024 Cadillac CT5 V Blackwing in September 2023 after an 18 month wait.

I love the high horsepower sedans.

I do have to admit that the big AMG engines have one of the best exhaust notes.

As for the ride, hopefully the AMG has a bunch of different suspension modes. I can definitely feel the difference in the ride between Track and Tour mode in the Cadillac.

My 2020 Widebody Charger Scat Pack rode worse than the track mode on the Cadillac. It also cost half as much as the Cadillac 😁

… i’ve had a bunch of quite older Mercedes… I loved them all…did all my own work… my 6.3 was the best hot rod I have ever owned… bar, none…

… now in my old age… I can’t work on shit… NEIGHBOR GIRL has a 2017… I forget what model…but a beautiful four-door sedan… she carts me around quite a bit in it… Not a hot rod but without a doubt the most comfortable low to the ground four-door sedan I’ve ever been in…

I can barely tell the difference on our E class from sport to comfort. Little stiffer but not much. I usually don’t drive my cars hard ever. But was meeting a guy in Malibu the other day and PCH was closed so had to take Kanan to topanga. Bangin some corners!! 😂😂

I have an E550 Coupe. Awesome car. Press sport mode and you can easily wrap it around a tree if not paying attention. Just screams. Replace engine mounts at 110k miles. Other than struts and tires, it hasn’t been too hard on the wallet. I drive it a lot and is my throw away car as driving on highways in Arizona, it has lots of rock chips on the hood. Great car and easy on long drives.

We have an 09 E350 sedan with AMG kit / wheels. Got it from the original owner maintained with open check book and garage kept its whole life in Westlake. Originally got it for my mother in law but she didn’t want to deal with any maintanence issues so we got her a Toyota Camry and I took the Mercedes to drive after we sold the Yukon. 150k miles but it’s in killer shape. I’ve actually enjoyed it but I didnt get it for me. We had an S class and an SL and I miss the full size and V8. But I’m gonna keep it and give it to my son next year when he turns 16. Be a good first car. Safe, solid, etc. he can drive it til it blows up.

In the mean time, wiring Money for the S63 this week. It’ll be enclosed shipped to the house next week. Looking forward to getting it. Gonna be a fun car.

I also had an E350 and I agree that I could not tell the difference between sport and comfort mode. The S63 is a whole different story. I put mine in comfort once...once.😂

Used AMG buyers should look into to the hot/crazy matrix….replace “Tiffany” with “Mercedes”.

It’s all about how much pain you’re willing to suffer through.

yeah, I hear that. But buying from buddy that sells them. Super low mileage one owner garage queen, serviced with open checkbook with all paperwork. Couldn't ask for a better set up. Gotta roll the dice at some point.

Does your buddy wear a purple suit and shoes with little fishtanks in the soles?

These are superb cars, Fastenal that, but I can’t tell you how much pleasure I got in my 2023 redeye hellcat King, Daytona charger it’s beyond sick. You get a red hellcat for about 100,000 maybe less a few leftover buying used one that’s just a few months old at 807 hp the reasonably comfortable and I drew one 300 miles already. They’re pretty darn good road car.
Not sophistication electronics of the Mercedes of course just insane vehicle to have fun with anytime.

Yea, probably is fun. It is 800hp. Put 800hp in most things and it will be fun. But it's still a classless slapped together bag of plastic, fake leather with the same tech that comes in a Dodge Caravan rental... Built to do donuts in a street takeover and knock down brainless bystanders. Sorry, no comparison to a German-built sedan. Intended to blast down the Autobahn at 150 while you sip an espresso. SOLID
