I passed up on one for $1,500 about 7 years ago that had a Eddie Valen Halen guitar paint job and a ton of modifications. I kick myself all the time for not buying it.

I had a Wave Blaster II, it was a fun ski, but nothing like the OG Blaster. Also had a Sea-Doo HX. What a pile of junk that was.

I had a tricked out Blaster II. Super fun and we could ride two people. Most can't and would fall off but we had it down pat. I'm sure a Blaster would be fun but I used to do some crazy stuff on my II.

Do you guys get liability insurance for these?

I have full coverage on both of mine. And every friend I know with one has coverage. Why take the risk of hitting another boat, person, or any loss that you might be liable for? These are a couple of hundred a year to insure, a lot less than losing your house, assets, or future wages over.

Ya, I miss mine. You really had to know how to ride it. Just getting on it and firing it up without tipping it over was something I had to learn.

The sport kinda fell apart and lost respect when they started building 3 seat sofas with engines and handle bars that run 75mph. Before those days, you had to have some level of skill to ride one. Now that manufactures have made them easy to ride, any idiot or inexperienced child can hop on one and tear up the water. Add easy financing to the equation and now you have a 1000 of these things with inexperienced riders tearing up the river/lake on typical summer weekend.

Yep. At that point why even bother. For a couple grand more I'd ride a Bayliner or Suntracker etc. the fun is in tearing it up.

But I never got anything or did stuff in front of boats. That was for out by myself or by the shore in our cove etc etc. On Havasu it's Body Beach or by Laughlin we had our spots. Out in the general flow of things I'd just cruise.

I used to have a lot of fun in the ocean, but I broke down out of Dana Point by myself once and that kinda scared me. Luckily a Lifegaurd boat came to my rescue. I also sunk one at Puddingstone. Hood came loose and down she went. Once again, I was saved by the Lifegaurd boat. They pulled up and before the boat stopped a LG dove down, hooked a winch to the bow eye rope and pulled it up onto their swim deck. It was something out of Baywatch. lol I pulled the plugs, turned it over, shot all the water out of the cylinders, put them back in and kept riding. :thumbsup

I have a 440, 2 550s, and 3 800 SXRs. When the boys get a little bit older I will let them have the 550s to learn on. Would recommend finding a clean 800. They are harder to come by now but you will always be able to get your $ out of them if you ever change your mind.

Ziggy and I used to ride out of O'side harbor back in the day. We employed these heavy duty hood straps to prevent the hood from getting knocked to the side and sinking the boat.
Back then, the straps clipped to the underside of the rub rail from L to R... there was also a secondary strap to prevent the pole from hyper-extending also. A buddy broke his steering pole in the waves...had to bungee it and ride on his knees all the way back.

They have these available these days...
