I only use 1 dentist and she is located in Los Algodones. Got her name from a friend that did a ton of research. I'm one of those Retired Military guys that were promised FREE medical and dental all my life. Total BS. Anyway, my last work included 6 Zirconium crowns (much better/stronger than Porcelain Crowns), a root canal with post and fixing of a severe tooth abscess at the root canal location that went up into my nasal passages. I'm figuring the cost for all this work in the US would be 18-20K. Well, my cost was $3174 OTD. I had it done in July 2018 so it's been exactly 1 year with NO ISSUES! Their equipment is state of the art, no hand me downs, etc.. The only issue is, of course, the language difference that I was able to work through.

My father is retired so he has time, and we give him air miles so no cost to travel. He's been going to a US trained (English speaking) dentist in Costa Rica. Multiple implants etc...typically 1/4-1/3 the cost. The dentist bought the building he's in and uses rooms above as hotel, so you fly, in they pick you up, rooms are less than $100 night, they call you down do prep work etc..,next day finish. If complicated sometimes requires a secon trip. He's used him for years. Sees the sites while down there.

I have a dentist in TJ. The border has been a bit of an issue lately, but it wouldn't prevent me from going down. In fact, I need to go for a cleaning soon. I can take you can you can check it out. I would recommend getting the global sentri card.

Every time I have changed Dentists here in the U.S. ... the new Dentist always seems to find problems with what the other Dentists did and want's to re-do all the work and charge me and my Insurance. What's up with that?... LOL!

Also, all of my old silver fillings and 30 year old crowns that had not given me any problems what so ever required to be re done with the latest and greatest. Only failures I ever had were with the new fancy stuff that replaced the old stuff...

I think being a dentist is like being a scammer to some degree- They are in it to make money and why would you question what they are telling you. I struggle with this as well with my dentist. I am 45 years old and feel like most of my teeth have been filled. And even with brushing after every meal, and flossing some how they still seem to find those small sticky spots on my that definitely need to be fixed. I think its all a racket

Its like I have always said about Mexican Cops vs American Cops... At least the Mexican cops are honest about why they pulled you over!

Why is it that the only ones that tell you , "DONT GO! YOU WILL DIE!" are dentists in the US. LOL (Our dental inmates here, please dont take offense!:))

Its like trying to keep a secret club. My wife needed some ortho work. My dentist quotes 6000$ for invisalign! WTF Went to smile direct. 1800$ later and guess what, amazing.

I love my dentist, he has good bedside manners. But his upsells and bullshit scare tactics are so 1980's. I'm always like, dude, i get you need to heavy side sell shit because Insurance is a scam these days, and this office doesnt pay for itself on thanks..Just be a little more realistic! The average consumer, me, is smarter these days and it isnt like 1960 when you went to Dr. Smith down the road by the Piggly Wiggly because he was your only option!

You wont die in Mexico, you wont wake up with your kidneys cut out in a hotel bathtub! LOL..if old Cotton Tops can go down there and pull it off, Im sure most of us here can sack up and take an "adventure".

My $02.

My wife, parents, kids and friends have all had excellent dental work done in Mexico.

Every six months to a year I had issues that my American dentist, doctors up to last for a temporary time. Broken bridge, bad crown, etc. I have bad teeth in general. A thousand here and two thousand there. I said screw it. Went to Mexico. Pulled all my teeth. Put in 8 posts. Wore a denture for 4 months till it healed. Went back and wham, a day later perfect permanent teeth. 2 appointments and $9,500. Estimates here was a low of $22,000 to a high of $35,000 and god knows how many appointments needed. The dentist in Mexico worked on me the entire day.
Not attending to 6-8 patients at once, all waiting for our 15 minutes as he goes from room to room, as my dentist here in US did.
3 years now gone by and not the slightest issue. I would have spent that same money over the last 3 years with micky mouse bandaids that only cured the problem for 6 months. Only to make another appointment and spend more $$.
My friend did the same thing, all teeth pulled and implants. He’s never been happier. He Was also a dentist junkie for the last 10!years.

Maybe we just got one of the good dentists in Mexico.

My wife’s smile, almost 10 years after all her dental work. With our granddaughters showing their Mexican dental work. Less than $10k for all. Had it not been for the dentists there. They would all still be afraid to smile because of gaps, broken and uneven teeth.
I could have never afforded to give this great gift to them, here in the states.

BTW. The tits were also done in Mexico 10 years ago. For some reason That $2500 was much easier to come up with. Would have been 5-7k here. Lol.

Found this thread because I have a Google Alert set for "Dental Work in Mexico."

I've been to Los Algodones a number of times for crowns, extractions, sinus boost, root canals, implants.

Wrote my experiences from my first trip in 2006 and send it to anyone who sends an email to my yahoo address (SuzanneFromSeattle).

Tips:
1. Always look for referrals (Trip Advisor has a lot).

2. Never go between mid-October and mid-March when the snowbirds are in town (Yuma and Los Algodones). There is a reason why Yuma's main intersection has three lanes in each direction plus two left-turn lanes in each direction!

3. Don't fly into Yuma and rent a car. Fly into San Diego/Las Vegas/Phoenix/wherever and rent a car there and drive to Yuma; a) Even on Priceline, Yuma car rentals are ridiculous b) Airport tiny, will have to transfer to a commuter plane.

4. From my June, 2008 notes: Because I didn't need a lot of work, I checked with a Seattle dentist. I was quoted $2,400 for the root canal, post, etc. By going to Dr. Bernal, I spent $1,200...and that included round-trip airfare on Southwest, car and hotel (Priceline) for a week, AND the dental work mentioned in the last sentence.

5. From my June, 2016 notes: By the way, because I hadn't been to Los Algodones for eight years, I made an appointment with a new dentist (I moved from Seattle in 2013) in case I needed work in addition to the new crowns. I had a cleaning, X-rays, and exam and the dentist made two comments: 1) you sure put a lot of money into your mouth! 2) you need two implants but the rest of your teeth look like you really take care of them! I didn't tell him that my dentist is in Mexico because I do not want him to "find" additional work that he "needs to repair." What surprised me was that the exam was so good because I stopped flossing about six years ago! Don't tell Dr. Bernal...

6. Before my first trip, I called my dental plan and asked how much they cover for exam, filling, implants, etc. without saying anything about Mexico. Then, I asked, "So what do you cover if my dentist is in Mexico?" Same: pay the dentist, submit a statement to us that includes dental codes, and we'll send you a check.

7. Recent email from someone who got my journal a while ago (no identifying information): "hi Suzanne. about a year ago, you sent your journal to me. I have been in Yuma for 6 days. finished all of my crowns at Bernal this afternoon. my whole life, I am continuously surprised and grateful for the kindness of strangers. I thought of you this whole trip, because we're strangers. the work that you put into your journal had a profound effect on my life. I wanted to say thank you. thanks for helping me. thanks for being another kind stranger who had a positive, profound impact on my life. and here's some pics, cause I'm just giddy happy."

8. Oh, yeah, depending on your day of birth, SS "checks" arrive the second, third, or fourth Wednesday of the month. No actual checks; all deposited into your bank account.

9. I've been in Yuma at 120° and I've been in Philadelphia at 70°. Prefer Yuma.

TRUTH! Same here on my end, for 2 years , it seems that every dentist has a need to scam us. From deep cleanings for every effen quadrant every year, to heavily recommending that gel antibiotic that insurance doesn't even cover. For a family of 5, its rough and at times feel like they have us by the balls. Always some upcharge or unnecessary recommendation for work that needs to be done. What we've been doing is getting seen and schedule a follow up appointment to have work done rather than doing it same day. We have the dentist give us a invoice showing what needs to be done and dental codes. We call our insurance company and they are cool about going what codes are covered and for how much of a deductible. Also validate what work is really being done and quoted versus discussed. But it's too much effen work to do this. Anyone have recommendations of a good dentist in the Upland area?

For those who don't know, the automotive industry basically copied dentistry and their maintenance/upsell programs. It's really pretty genius from a business perspective.

Go to Algodones, Mexico/ Andrade, CA. just outside of Yuma. Turn off at the Q casino and go two miles to the border. Pay the parking, about $6 and walk over. I've had work done there and have had no problems. Way cheaper because they don't have to pay the exorbitant malpractice premiums like dentists have to in the U.S. due to the fucking parasitical, bottom feeding worm shit known as lawyers and big pharmafags. Lot's of Pharmacys there too, cheap ass meds BTW. All the snowbirds literally mob that place in the winter to get their work done.
Its well known as the dentistry mecca of Mexico/US. I'm going there tomorrow to get an estimate on implant and two crowns. Had the extraction and bone graft done over here and it cost me $1200 out pocket WITH my shitty insurance. When dude said it would be another $900 (including the discount of my useless dental insurance), to screw a stud in my cranium I balked. That's just the stud! NO crown! The crowns will cost me another $450 a pop with my shitty insurance! I found out and got a list of dentists that actually take my useless insurance over there. That was a welcome surprise! Check with your provider, they might cover some over there as well. From guesstimates from prior work done, as well as talking to people in the know, I could get the implant and two crowns for a bit less than what dude wants for just the implant. Like anything, do your homework. Look around for one you're comfortable with and ignore the the street skins trying to steer you places for a commission. Almost all have pretty good reputations though. Best to go in the Summer and avoid the snowbird mobs October through March. Most have reviews online. There are horror stories but just like everything, bad news spreads like wildfire and sticks, the good news is obscured and fades because of it. Hundreds of thousands of finickey snowbirds can't all be wrong.
Addendum: Get the best tacos on the planet and beer too while you're there for dirt cheap! :D
I have been down there many times and the winter is packed with snowbirds getting dental work, buying medicine and getting glasses. It is crazy how packed it gets down there. Again I have had no issues with my crown and teeth cleaning. It is sad to see older Americans that can barley walk seeking dental care, medicine, glasses.

I don't need any major work done, just a new denture and maybe some fillings. Looking for options.

I’d recommend USC or any other dental school. You will get far better care then any American dental office, it’s not about money but a grade.

Update: Just went to my dentist on this side of the border in Yuma for my biannual cleaning (insurance pays for two times a year). Like clockwork, the hygienist wants to take an x-ray. Why I asked again (as I do every time)? She said oh, "just to see whats going on". I said well nothing, except for my molar being pulled and bone grafted in which the endodontist has taken two full panoramic x-rays this year, has changed. If you really want to see whats going on, have him email you those exposures, the most recent one was taken last month. She kinda just blankly stared at me, I said nah I'll pass. Nice lady but, she doing what the dentist told her to do so they can bill for the x-ray. You CAN refuse this upsell bullshit! I'm sick of being exposed to gamma radiation every time I go in there just being because "they want to see whats going on". It's about up charging the insurance as well as CYA for the parasite lawyers, its not necessary every time. Nothing really "changes" in six months. People that know nothing of radiation and trust medical/dental professionals are hit every time whether need it or not because they trust that it is necessary.
One other story from November of last year, I started copping a toothache on a Thursday and by Friday it was killing me. No way I could get in to my dentist over the weekend here, so went to Algodones on a Saturday. I was fully prepared to get a root canal done as this was usually what goes down (notice my not so subtle brainwashing from experiences over here), I told the dentist, a really nice young lady educated at University of Guadalajara, that I probably needed a root canal. She took an x-ray and said she could not see anything wrong. She then made me do bite impressions and said I had a high spot on a molar that was causing the pain and it just needed to be smoothed down a bit. I didn't believe it. She told me that if it didn't improve in a couple of days to come back. People, I did NOT have to go back. This woman could have drilled me out and charged me whatever for it and sent me on my way. I wouldn't have been the wiser to it. Total cost? $25 ON A SATURDAY! Don't know what they would have done to me over here but I shudder to speculate. She saved a perfectly healthy molar! Kudos to her!
Thanks too hippa it's a real pita to have records transferred. When switched dentist from .ca to or. It was actually cheaper to take all new xrays then it was to get my records from sacramento.

I only go to my regular dentist in Yuma for cleanings. He knows I go to Los Algodones if anything else pops up. Father in law saved thousands on dentures and we saved thousands on braces. Wanted $6500 here and paid $1800 there. Then had insurance recoup the entire bill. If its a costly procedure you will not regret going.

And if your paying for beer and tacos I will be your tour guide.

Still on the fence, friends in Phoenix go to a place just south of Yuma and swear by it. Haven't crossed the border by vehicle yet, not sure what to expect.
Park at the casino and walk across the border.
