I just picked up one to mount in the 5th wheel. $107 to the door from Ebay.
Tested it by hooking it to the car for the 12 volts. I don't have my temp gun so I can't tell you how hot it is coming out. But it's hot . Its running on low in the video.

I've had one for a few years; I had to modify the exhaust with a heat shield because it gets really Hot. It will chase us out of our tent.

The downside I found is that it will shake itself apart while riding around in the back of the truck when off-roading. The fuel cap broke as well. Works surprisingly well for the price.

How long will a tankful of diesel last? Is the heat output controllable?

Mine uses about 1/2 gallon a night on low. I control the heat by opening windows. It roasts the tent on its lowest setting. Been an awesome unit and total game changer.

Would it work for a garage? I’ve got a natural gas heater in there now, but it’s attached to the wall. I’m thinking this will be nice because I can move it around.

How much power does it take? It would be great for my hunting trailer. But power would be an issue.

How would this compare to a propane heater, like a heater buddy or similar unit?
I know diesel fuel has way more BTU's of energy than gasoline, which has more than propane. But diesel also costs $5-$6 a gallon. The propane heater units are pretty much bulletproof.

I need to set something up to heat the inside of my 24' box trailer in the desert (we use it like a bar / man cave at night) and this might be perfect

My Mr Heater Buddy uses an entire green bottle a night. As in you’ll wake up cold. A green bottle costs more than a gallon of diesel so they are at least twice as expensive to operate. Also they do all the combustion inside the space. They put out a lot of condensation and that quickly became a problem.

The diesel heater uses about 1/2 a gallon of fuel a night, the combustion is vented outside and it puts out nice dry heat. You do need a 12VDC source to run them.

I stopped using a Lil Buddy and switched to this for winter camping in our rooftop tent. Here are my opinions about the switch.

The diesel heater was far quicker and hotter.
The diesel heater was dry, meaning there was no condensation in the tent.
I perceived the Diesel heater as being safer. The heat exchanger keeps Carbon Monoxide out of my tent. The Lil Buddy has a shut-off feature, but I don't trust it.
The diesel heater is easier in the AM as I can push the start button on the remote without getting out of bed.
I don't worry about the diesel heater falling over in a tent; there is no fire inside the tent. The diesel heater is 100% outside the tent, with only a duct coming inside.

The Lil Buddy is easier to transport and set up.
The build quality of the Little Buddy is better and more straightforward.

The Amazon heaters from China are knockoffs of a Wabasco or something like that. These are really nice heaters that are built into camper vans. Or Caravans, as the Euros call them. You can take these apart and use the components in different configurations if needed. I did try to heat an 800 sqft shop with one, but it was too much for it. It knocked off the chill, but it did not make sense for regular use.

This exactly. Took my Mr buddy Hester on my hunting trip last year. Total fail.
Not only was it a wet heat. I went out on low oxygen and left a very bad Burt fuel smell.

Don’t do a big propane heater in a rv. Definitely have a good carbon monoxide detector if you do.

I’m looking for a 20 maybe bigger enclosed. No bells or whistles. It will rarely get moved. Cheap but not trash.
