No rain but was a little breezy in Ventura. Had to roll up the awning.

Most bad weather passes thru faster than most boats can travel. Seems this system was mentioned earlier in the day by an inmate in LV.

Why, did the engine die?
Boat looks like it’s floating fine bilge is pumping water too. That’s take crew on safety boat captain jacket up and float it out or idle it towards a cove or protected part but not on a shore.

No way I leave my boat unless it died, even then the tow companies should be able to get you back to the dock.

Someone said that a boat was being towed back by Tow Boat US and the line snapped. Might have been this one. Only reason I could think to abandon it. Wild stuff!!

So I was at the point up from site 6. The boat looked like it didn’t have power and almost flipped from a wave hitting as it was being beached. One person was thrown off and made it to shore. The other 4ish people jumped off and made it to shore. Then the sheriffs were there and the driver got on their boat. From what I can tell, they had no power. Definitely scary for them I am sure.

Yeh sounds legit don’t see any reason for a driver to leave boat. And in this condition hard to put a driver back into boat or hook up a rope. I personally won’t take a chance.

I lost a fuel pump in my 27' formula years ago and needed a tow. We were up river and it was 35 mph gusts, the tow boat operator wanted everyone in the boat to put vests on and told me we were on the verge of just having to leave the boat a get it in the morning. My formula has a ton of freeboard and I was taking waves over the bow it was that bad, they must have a policy that if the waves break into cabin they leave the boat and retrieve at a later time.

Worked the rental houseboat docks at Powell during summers in college.
When the wind would pick up, we would tell folks to stay outside the breakwater and one of the captains would take the boat to the gas dock then off loading docks. If the wins were too much, we would hold returns at castle rock (back when the lake was full in the mid 90’s), until the wind was down.

Big boat, strong wind = busted docks and boats

Any damage to the gel
Not that they said. I was talking to our buddy that's with him. I haven't spoke to him directly. His brother hadn't spoke to him either. I'll learn more this week. I do know they spent all day yesterday looking over the motors. The engine compartment got some water. Just checking it over as I understand it.

We rode out the storm in Thompson Bay. These pics/video showed the storm when it was fairy light. It got pretty bad out there and we took a few big waves over the bow. It got to the point where I couldn’t motor directly into the headwind without stuffing the bow. We just floated wherever the wind took us until it was safe enough to move on.

I have a whole new respect for those who boat at Haulover.

Anyone who (on purpose) ties their boat to a boat in danger of sinking or a sinking boat needs their head examined.

Preservation of life comes first….both those being rescued and the the captain of the rescue vessel.

Edit: Let’s talk about redundant systems. I have a shitty little 19’ outboard and I have a spare fuel pump in the boat…capped off fitting, ready to swap a couple lines and go.

Marine stuff (starters, alternators, fuel pumps, etc) has a stupid high failure rate compared to the same components in a car….why not carry spares? Most of these boats are in excess of $100k…throw a sealed tote with the high failure shit in the boat, or just set it up to run redundant systems…another $1500 or so is a drop in the bucket, and could save a situation.

Hope Tank enjoyed himself.
I actually love it when it whips up in Windsor like that. Ran our last gun a couple times across the bay when yhe
Monsoons were blowing hard making crazy white caps and deep holes. Ate that shit up. Lotta fun. We came around the island one time and wasn’t expecting it. It was one of those storms where some boats sank. Things weren’t secured on the boat and people weren’t ready we ducked into the channel secured everything and I told my wife “we’re going back out!” Ran hard down to the river mouth and back. Only boat on the water. Desert storm weekend on a Saturday. Shit was gnarly. So much fun.

I think that was the same weekend Ultra introduced the 344 and took a wave and went flying. Back around 2008/2009

That’s the one!!

We ran past Windsor ramp pretty close around 75 mph airing it the FUUUUUCK out! I remember looking over and everyone at Windsor was watching us fly by. Like “wtf?!l” It was bad ass. 😂😂

After we went back the first time to secure the gear on the boat we were idling out and a buddy had his 41 Apache there and was coming through the channel, I slowed and was like “let’s run!” He was super bummed. Lost a drive or a trans, couldnt run.

There was legit 5’ holes out there. White caps. Shit was rougher than I’ve ever seen it.
