I just saw a 97 20.5 Howard listed for the same price. Looked really clean, but thought the same thing.

Its all relative to new boat prices.

That Ultra was never priced at $28K when new. I want to say it was close to that price with zero options, a basic trailer, inexpensive stereo package and a big block with a jet....but not with anything from Mercruiser. If I remember correctly, when JW introduced the Stealth model, it was a few grand more than the LX and XT models. Those two models were priced in the low 30's. The asking price for that boat today is probably close if not more than what it sold for when new. Supply and demand (And the increased cost of glass, resins, gelcoats and motor packages). 😉

In 2000 the LX with merc 350 or 454 jet was $24,999. Base price.

Prices are out of control right now. Everyone is jumping on the selling high band wagon and as long as people are paying the prices they will sell...supply and demand...my suggestion is wait til these prices DUMP as they are sure to do then pull the trigger...just imagine how many people are going to have buyers remorse once the prices drop and they realized they spent 30-50% more than what they needed to just for a few weeks of boating...but hey, if you gotta have it you gotta have it at any price lol

Yeah I saw that, I really like the xt and xcs. Small enough to fit in the garage, but enough fretboard to take on havasu

Prices are crazy, but they're not going to get anywhere close to that, unless the buyer is completely unaware.

That is a ridiculous price! Tahiti has the 23(?) open bow they built with the LSA and Bravo for sale that I would take in a heat beat over this one. Yes, it is listed for a good bit more but its closer to its actual value than this one, by a large margin.

Guys, relax. This is a popular broker in town with a giant building and overhead asking more than retail. And if it’s consignment he gets a percentage. He can ask whatever he wants, it does not mean he will get it.

I got my boat for almost 20% less than the consigner was asking, and that was 6 years ago.

Of course he’s advertising it for more than retail in the tail end in a hot market. If you don’t like the price, make an offer.

There are still quite a few sanely prices boats out there from private sellers.

Very true, i get where Preston is coming from, but for the owner to have it at that price is nuts to me.

If it is on consignment Preston’s job is to get the most money for it. The owner isn’t setting the price, unless Preston is fine giving free boat storage :)

He’s probably expecting someone makes an offer in the high 30s. And they can tell their friends the got a “deal”.

Even if you factor in inflation on 30k from 2003 that only equals 42k in 2020 😂

We’ve been considering listing our 23 Ultra also and it would not have a 4 in front of it like that one does.

Seriously. Tell your buddy to wait till next spring. People are retarded with pricing. That boat will be 1/2 price by that time.

So with the commission for the broker, the price is spot on.

But building that boat today would cost over $50k

My 23’ Cobra was high $50k in 2004 when new.

The price would be spot on if boats didn’t deprecate lol, but I’m sure someone will buy it🤦‍♂️

Asking prices and MSRPs don’t set the market.

Pre 06 “custom” boats are just going to hold value because the costs to replace them is double.

They aren't just holding their value they are going up in value, 2driver sold his in 2017 for 23.5k which is a very respectable price. Building a new 21 from Tahiti hasn’t gone up more than a few thousand in the past 3 years but somehow a 17 year old 21 has doubled in value. Even if someone were to knock 10k off the asking price that is still way to much for that boat lol.

An asking price does not set the market.
Used prices went up this season because no one wants to wait for a boat build. I agree that the 25-40k 21’-25’ boats will continue to increase in value over time, but as covid fades away the prices will stabilize again, and follow new boat prices higher.

I have nothing against Tahiti, they seem to build great boats, but a brand with provenance commands a higher price on the used market. That said I’d have zero problems buying a new Tahiti.

In 1999-2000’ish era a 21 stealth with a small block / bravo package was about 30k give or take..

It should be noted that for years after that Ultra would offer to purchase back the boat at the original sales price they year (or even two) if you wanted to build a new one. That went on right up until the crash. Right before the crash I believe they were approximately 40k for that boat but don’t quote me on Thst last part I’d have to ask JW.

That said clean reliable boat that holds ten people, sips fuel and runs 60... it’s going to command a price tag in a market where nothing is available.

It’s not just Magic’s anymore boys.. everything is going for ridiculous $$.. And strangely things are selling. I am not saying they are sold at the price they are listed, but boats are still moving.

no different than the vrbos in Havasu. Go look at the nightly rates.. People thought I was joking when I said people are getting 5-600 a night for normal houses.. I had a friend with a nice house call me today and said he had a vacancy this weekend at 500 a night.. he called me back before I even had a chance to put it on here for him that it was booked.

Uh oh......crapping on a sellers ad saying their price is too high, and an RDP advertiser too?!! Big no no.

That's a lot of $$$ for a small block. It should have a 454 at a minimum

This late in the season I would either have Tahiti build you a new one or keep your eyes open over winter for a good deal. $42K for a 17 year old 21’ Ultra seems insane to me, but then again I never thought that a 16 year old Magic Deckboat would be fetching $90K either, lol.

Right? At least most of them kept to boat prices are just crazy right now, instead of blasting the ad..

thst said it honestly wouldn’t surprise me if they get near what they are asking.. I have been down there and seen people walk in and say “that one” and that’s about the sum of it.. lol. It’s crazy
