As title stated. Was at the track today and saw a bunch of kids racing. Got couple questions.

-what’s a good starting age?
-expensive?
-they race in SoCal? Famoso, irwindale, Carlsbad?
-could I build my own chassis?
Is this a good idea or stupid.

You can pick up used fairly inexpensive. It looks like to have a new car built it’s about 10k all in.

A new Mike Bos chassis will be $12-15k as a roller with a 6-8 month wait. Haven't priced one from Halfscale in awhile. Clutch $1200+. Motor $45-6500. Data logger,,,

You can get $25k with a wrap and more with paint real easy going brand new.

I’ll have to grab the manufacture of the cars and 3 motors. But one is an 11.90, one 8.90 and one 7.90 all run on alcohol. 10,000 for everything that’s helmets, Hans devices you name it.

This is my 11.90 motor. Just got it back from McGee for refresh. It's an aftermarket Terminator block that has been destroked and sleeved. It is actually a smaller bore and stroke than a standard Briggs 5hp. Balanced with quality parts. Carb is a Mikuni 33mm sleeved down to 26 or 24mm. The 33 is a better carb than the 28mm for several reasons. Get your package right and this thing will Zerox time slips all day long.

Need to get it in the car cause it's getting dusty on the shelf. My youngest moves from 13.90 to 11.90 this year. Have some "rigging" changes to do. Motor plate, gearing, clutch and more I haven't thought about yet I'm sure,,,,,

I can get you in round with him if interested.

I Have someone up here that is looking for a car. He's till scared to commit so getting him to buy 2 cars may be a stretch. I'll run it by him though.

I must have read incorrectly or missed something then. The amount of knowledge in this forum is mind blowing

We got our son involved in the JR’s at age 8 and he loved it. He grew going to the track watching me race so it was only natural to get him in a car.
As far as family time it was priceless.
There is definitely a learning curve tuning a single cylinder Briggs engine and I failed miserably!! 😆
As said before Butch does a good job running the JR’s at Famoso during the ANRA events, I’d recommend going down and checking it out. Maybe talk to some of the parents.

The prices went up about 30% since covid. A couple vendors didn't make it through. Nic Woods bought a bunch of patents and rights from JR and is doing a lot to progress the sport and equipment. Nic is married into the Clay Smith family and is in the same building.

You can get a nice used turn key 7.90 car from $6-12k depending on what all is in it. If you buy right other than maintenance you will get most of your $ back when you sell it.

Nic is George and Patti Striegel's [Clay Smith Cams Owners] grandson, back in the 90s Nic and my son raced juniors together along with Shawn Langdon and Leah Pruitt and many others, we now run his engines

Gotcha, Talked to him often , but never asked details. 👍 I bet we could play name drop over some beers and stories. 😂

I buy a lot of parts from him. He's fixed the shockwave problems and just keeps making progress.
