May is the month of misery for me, today has been a bell ringer.
My head feels like it is in a vise, my eyes are on fire, etc. None of the over the counter stuff seems to help, what I do is keep a large tupperware bowl of icewater next the my chair and soak a washcloth in there and then roll the cloth up and put it over my eyes.
It calms them down a bit but doesn't do much for the headache.
I really don't want to go for prescription stuff but if this keeps up I may have to.
Any ideas?

Ive been dealing with the same stuff for months here in Phoenix, its bad this year. Go get a netty Pot, I hate doing it but that thing really works well. My wife use to get sinus infections all the time, now she's uses the netty pot when she feels it coming on and she feels better right away. Im also taking bee pollen from local AZ bees, its a little out there but seems to be helping a bit.

Allegra is over the counter now and really seems to help me. I get it real bad in the Spring during the nut tree bloom and then again as rice harvest starts. Only problem I've found with it is the "24 hour" dose only lasts about 8 hours for me, so I wait it out as long as possible before taking it.

I use pseudoephedrine HCI, which is non prescription, but you have to buy from a pharmacist and the best for the sinus pressure is a hot compress. Soak a wash cloth in as hot of water as you can stand, press it on your sinuses for a couple of minutes, get it hot again, repeat a few times. You can really feel it break stuff up. Also try a personal steamer and the saline rinses. Best of luck with it Buddy!!

Im telling you go to you local GNC and ask about "Anatabloc"

Google IT. Its an anti inflammatory that those that are taking swear by it for aches and pains, sinus allergies, gout, etc......

Not cheap but read peoples comments on the GNC website, Amazon and at Anatabloc.com.

Thanks gang, I am starting the honey remedy tomorrow, it is highly thought of around here, and I will get a neti pot and look in to the others. These headaches are new for me, I used to get miserable hay fever in late summer, now that is gone and I got this deal...times change I guess.

Go to the doc...

Different people/alergies require different meds. There is no one size fits all option!

Flonaze and Alegra work for me. I take em at the first tickle, and it never gets worse than that.

I've suffered through 2 sinus infections. Not gonna let that happen again. :thumbsdown:thumbsdown

Careful with the Netty Pot. I read recently that someone died from getting bacteria from the bottle in their brain. I think it was caused by not using distilled water and got bacteria in the bottle. Not to mention I don't want everything from my sinuses running out of my mouth. Hope you feel better soon.

AllerTec from Costco, every day, 365 days a year.
It's basically generic Zyrtec. No more seasonal sinus infections for me.

Wife just started the local bee honey dealio.
Too soon to tell if it helps but we've read good things about it.

I have the exact same condition Jeff,, I use Sumatriptan.
Non-narcotic and it works amazing.

Ya need a prescription, and it's covered by most medical plans.
If not, the pills are only $4 each at COSTCO with prescription, and they even have a further cash discount if you simply fill out a form.

Works amazing with no side effects what-so-ever.
Friends off this board recommended it and they were right.

What worked for me was going to the allergy doctor to see what I was alergic to. Is it trees molds whatever then he can put u on the right medicine and as long as I take my medicine no sneezing or runny nose.

I have the fluconaise (sp) prescription as well. I havent used it in awhile because it was drying out my nose so badly that it was causing bloody noses.

I heard about that but another possible cause that I read was that someone else might have used it and thats where the bacteria came from.

I use hydroxazine (atarax) (prescription) and Allegra if it gets bad together. Controls it pretty well. I get hay fever so bad I can't breathe at times, and watery eyes if I don't use it. Been that way all my life. This time of year and summer are the worst. Seems I'm allergic to most anything that grows, grass, weeds, whatever.

Same here. I used to see an allergy doctor and got allergy shots twice a month but after my heart attack they said no more. Something about the shots interact with the heart medication I am taking.

My Doc's got me on Zyrtec / Flonaze and it's been much better...it will take a few months to build up...WORST season this year than ever for me...:grumble:

I got the Allerclear from Costco, Generac for Claritin. I started taking it every day, but I've been able to cut back to where I only take it once a week.

Neti Rinse is easier than Neti Pot. Used Distilled or Boiled water to avoid the brain eating amoeba :thumbsup

The problem with allergy docs is that can't pinpoint what we are allergic to. They try and guess by running allergy tests(blood work) which are VERY expensive and although covered by most ins. cos. they are not discounted as heavily. Most docs however are aware of the local alergins and can usually prescribe something that may help.

Jeff, I'm sure you noticed how dark my eyes can get, from lack of sleep to my allergies, I've tried it all, OTC and prescrip., now I don't get sinus headaches but I sneeze and get dark bags like a MoFo. The sea salt rinse someone explain.
