I've built a 20x16 Alpine style exposed beam pavilion in my back yard for an outdoor living space. I had planned on doing a metal roof on it but my HOA will only approve the same tile I have on my home now. The roof pitch is pretty steep. I've done almost everything but have never built a tile roof. I understand the concept. Even spacing and layout.

Any tips on a light weight tile/material that matches my current concrete tile on the house? Any recommended vendors in the Phoenix area?

I understand the basics. Underlayment, Chalk line lay out, battons.

Thank for your input.

With hoa ( aka the devil ) your best bet is too talk too them. They should know what was used and give you a name a d model. Now they do male metal roofs that look like tile, most look good from a distance. Your hoa may go for that.

Love the style!!! and colors... of your build

What thickness is the roof sheathing?? 1"× or 2"x??

I'm having a difficult time trying to determine your roof tile from your photo.
Definitely, concrete slurry glazed... color??

Take a picture of the underside...it should have a manufacturer stamp on it.... name, logo etc.

It suxs that you can't put a standing seam metal roof on the structure...

The tiles new enough matching it up shouldn't be a problem...old stuff can suck. You did the hard part...dealt with the HOA. As for setting up your runs...cheat your exposures to get them even...looks better than a short course at the top, and not cutting a ton.

So here are some more pics. Looks like the mfg is Westile from the casting.

The led lights in the kitchen mess with the color. It’s a pinkish tan color with a splash of white specs.

Thanks! It would look awesome with a metal roof but I live in a 14 home HOa. Almost everyone is over 70. Since I’m the race car, boat & trailer guy they like to make my life harder than it needs to be.

Roof is tongue and groove. 1/2 I think.

I’m not a fan of the current color tile roof as it limits what color I can paint the house. But oh well. I got to get it done before it gets hot again.

Do a search for roofing supply houses in your area. Take one of your house tiles to the yard and they can match it up. They may have something in a light weight tile.

There's usually a couple of roofing supply houses around town that have a bone yard. They might enough to do your whole roof.

It looks pretty steep for concrete tiles. You need to nail em in good, but don't let the nails pop through to the underside. I'd suggest a heavy duty underlayment at least on the perimeter, if not the whole thing. The granulated rolled roofing underlayment for torch downs or something similar would be my choice. But I'm not a roofer..... I just fix leaks. LOL

The 15 and 30 lb felt dries out where it gets more sun and air exposure at the perimeter. Flash the perimeter with a good edge metal. And that foil product reflects up a lot of the heat rays.

That's all I got.

The peel and stick, like Liberty or a few others would work good as a heavy underlayment. Being a non-roofer, on a wood substrate, I'd steer clear of torch. Old school tile roofs were hot mopped...those lasted forever.

The manufacturer of the posted tile is Westtile. They are no longer in business. The tile posted is a trim piece (rake/ridge).
If you want, I'd be more than happy to walk you thru the process.

Email me pictures of your house in the daylight and more photos of the existing roof.

The reason, I asked what thickness of the roof sheathing is, I'm concerned of "shiners" in the beautiful underside roof.

I'll provide you with some pointers .... you really dont want a bunch of exposed plant hangers...

Good luck!!

Getting a quote to replace the underlayment on our house roof...we have had a couple leaks. Still the original roof from 26’ish years ago.

Rough estimate of 12 to 14k, that’s not even new tile.

We have the original AC still running too, it is going to be an expensive spring this year.

I would suggest planning for it versus having it sneak up on you.

It is only a matter of time.

Nice work. Was that a kit or did you start from scratch.

I got light concrete from the manufacture in south phx. I tried to find them as it was awhile ago but it was a huge manufacturing site and the guys gave me what I needed even though it was super small quantity. Perhaps you can find them

Don’t over look craigslist In phx and Tucson.

Thanks! It was a kit I ordered from back east. By the time I add the Island, kitchen, bbq's, lighting, fans, TV and a fire place it will be as comfortable as my living room. I ran water, electric & Cat 5 to it. Should be awesome when it's finished.

Good call. I think It be could be as close as I'm gonna get. I have 12 foot interior ceilings so it’s a bitch to get a tile color from a roof shot. I need to fire up my drone. Haha! I got a sample from my detached basement roof.

I've spent the day looking all this BS up with the tile roof and decided to present my plea to the HOA once more based on the fact I can't get an exact match roof tile. A failed attempt to match tile would look way worse than the metal roof color I'm proposing. Here's an example of the firehouse down the street that has the same color I'd like to do.

Since all the roofers are here, does anyone know what tile this is? I'm trying to figure out the weight, short of pulling one off my house. Eagle tile has something that somewhat matches but how do you know the difference between standard and eagle lite?
