Lol. My wife doesn’t understand the word budget. What she wants with the backyard would make Disney jealous. I try and remind her she married a contractor not a prince of some oil laden foreign land.

Has that ever made a difference? Asking for a friend....

No. lol.

At least she’s accepting of the fact the backyard won’t be happening until next year sometime.

I want to pull my hair out. It’s not fun seeing the backyard during the excavation phase. It’ll be a snowball like the Stoker [emoji85]

Tim is the best. I’m probably the worst customer.

They will be back in the am to finish, can you give me a call in the morning. Quick question.

By the way RDP peeps, Tim, and Julian are doing a great job for us, it’s a process to witness for sure.

My backyard is shit. So it being torn up would be an improvement.

My backyard is shit too. The pool is only like 1/2 the cost. I still need to landscape the hillside, run conduit for speakers, re work the irrigation and figure out what kind of plants/trees I need, go price out palm trees[emoji15][emoji1304]. Plus power for lights and raise the patio cover a foot and a half. Don’t get me started on the bar/bbq I want to build.

The contractor in me decided to extended the RV parking by 20 something feet while we were at it.

I’ll be glad when it’s done. That’s for sure.

Exactly. I need to figure out what we can do back there then we can layout the bar/bbq. Patio covers landscaping, etc.

Tim’s your guy for sure. Once you start excavation, everything changes and you start wanting to add things. I don’t plan on ever digging up the yard again after this. I will have “future” pull boxes and plumbing all over the place. Lol

I will have irrigation drains along that wall. The backyard already has irrigation drains to tie into.

Green arrow is an expansion joint - designed for movement cracking

Red arrows are for a cold joint. This will crack looks like the rock formation and the walk/deck are not keyed together... what’s going to happen is the deck will heat up and expand during the hot summer and the rock will expand but at a different rate than the walk/deck and you will get a crack or a joint between the 2

Blue arrow similar to the red arrows you will get cracks and separation as you have 3 different materials and will expand and contract differently

Looks like you have a cool deck or some sort of coating on your decking/walk areas the rocks are only bonded to the coating and not keyed in to the pool

In my opinion some portions of the decking should have been removed along with the brick coping under the rocks, all rebar should have been tied into pool wall/gunite, so rocks and pool become one and then the decking is poured back up to the rocks with an expansion joint and then the pool coping. I’m sure this will be great for say 3 maybe 5 years but long term it will become a problem

When the pool guys raised / added onto your spa they keyed into the gunite from the old spa foundation so it would bond together and carry the load.

I’m not a pool guy, but that’s how I would do it if it was my pool. I did my own pool remodel back in 2007.

If that one freaks you out how bout this one, lol

This back yard was damn near useless before, 4ft raised bond beam, 4 to 5 ft retaining walls behind that, w 6 ft property line walls beyond that. And yes new walls will be all stucco or stone so don’t judge the beautiful joints, lol
Natural slope was about where wheel barrow is.

Yeap, Ive got, for real, 1000 foot of 1 and 2in conduit behind the retaining wall MYV built for me. Lights, plugs, outlets, pull boxes, supply to the barn, for the horses.

Hopefully you are putting in new light fixtures while the pool is empty.

That lath is tied too close to the rebar. You have no coverage on the rebar. Install chairs so you can get 1.5" of coverage. This will crack and fall apart. Its like pouring a driveway and not lifting up the rebar as you go. What the point of having rebar then?

Ok, I’ve been watching quietly but I gotta say it. After just building a pool in my yard this spring and being knee deep in pool design ... among other things, WTF is with you keeping your coping? Get that crap out now and do something that is in this century before it gets plastered. I know you have a lot going on, but you might as well do it now or regret it later.

No a customer in north fontana, mike wants walls behind Pool to extend backyard even more like this, but he got overridden, lol
Mikes backyard is plenty big all around house though so it’s not a necessity like this one was.

The water line on my old pool is just tile so I don't have experience with the faux boulders. But won't those faux rocks and the faux block wall show white deposits along the water line?

Yes, and typically the cleaning process removes the color of the rockwork. Not a fan of faux rocks they’re a maintanence long term relationship

If you are seriously concerned, I would consider MYVs offer to come check it out. :)

He is a pretty reasonable guy Might be worth it to pay him to come up for the day for a consultation. He knows his shit. :)

Better to hurt a little now than a lifetime of hurt for a shitty pool remodel, or worse, wind up in court deciding who pays for what.
at this point, I just want him to finish as I'm in contract with the guy..... or have him say "I quit".... then.... I will have Moody come tell me what I need to do to make it right....I'm 65 and and don't need it to last too long, and who ever gets it for free can bitch about me knock'n the bottom out of that ass and ruining the pool....LOL...they'll probley bitch about the color's of the "FREE" Hallett also...Oh, and the bricks around the pool.....

White line is on rocks and tile. Here is Vegas we say drain the pool every 5 years to remove the hard water. Its a maintenance issue. If you can control the hard water with acid then you minimize the white line. Not easy but it can be done.
