Non smokers need not comment.. I don't want to hear it, and as on the edge as I am right now you probably don't want to say it.

After the last weekend in Havasu, I feel like I've been having some major allergic reactions to cigarettes. There is a serious tightness in my chest, hard to breathe, and it's gotten to the point of retarded now.

Of course the text book answer is quit smoking.. but I want to know why after 20 years all of a sudden this can happen in 1 week. I went down to my liquor store and there was someone else saying the same thing was happening to him. Went out to Parker last weekend and several people were complaining about it.

"FSC" is what it says on the side of hte packs of cigarettes now. Something about "fire safety" the cigarettes burn out if your not smoking them.

Marlboro claims they just added these rings of paper to make it less likely to stay lit on their website.. I googled "Cigarette FSC" and came up with a thread about it.

It isn't just me.

Yeah, i noticed they taste much different now too. Actually, i think its makes me feel sick too(stomach nausia). Good reason to quit now. Who knows what kind of shit they put in them to make them stop burning. But whatever it is, i can sure taste it, and it sure does make me feel real strange.

The new formula not only tastes funny, but it leaves my mouth and throat all nasty feeling (cotton mouth immediately after smoking). This is one quick way to make a non-smoker out of me, as I feel like I am having an allergic reaction everytime I like up. Also they are giving me a headache. Who do we complain too about this

Another Marlboro smoker here who noticed all the above; I heard it was a Ca law to have the cigs extinquish to prevent more fires, burns, and other safety reasons. They definately taste different. Myself and friends, family who smoke them all have this horrible congested cough after smoking these lately in the last couple of months. I heard it was all cigs made by Phillip Morris. I would and am going to write to Phillip Morris about it and complain. After being a smoker of Marlboro for many years, I bought a "non" Phillip Morris generic brand today. I can't stand the new defunked Marlboro's any longer. I'm tired of the fire going out and the chemical taste they have. It makes me wonder what they added to them. I know cigs aren't safe, but they don't need to kill us smokers off any faster!

Me and my Husband has been smoking the new cigarettes and has made us litterly sick...severe coughing and I feel like my tounge is numb. we don't what it is and was wondering if there is a chemical that is making us sick. please respond we would like to know if there is any one else that had been getting sick since the new cigarettes have changed

my dad has been smoking for 30 years and my dad has developed illergic reactions to the damn things! so now what are u supposed to do when you have people dieing from them!

There are thousands of these replies all over the fuckin internet. People who have been smoking for years, now all of a sudden can't breath, are throwing up, having weird allergic reactions to cigarettes.. etc..

I'm not buying the "banded paper" bullshit.. They put something in these fuckers to make them go out, and whatever it is is bad news..

I have drastically cut back on my smoking all last week, and this weekend.. Everytime I light one, I feel like I'm having an anxiety attack. Which is a real bitch, because I get ansy from not having a smoke.. Have the smoke, feel like I'm having an anxiety attack, and the natural reaction is to have another cigarette etc.. etc.. I bought a 60 pack of gum this morning to give me something to do instead of smoke.. That fucker is about burned up already.

I feel like I walked into a house fire and got extreme smoke inhallation or something, and am slowly recovering.. Problem is die hard smoker is only going to go so long, and then the whole process starts over again.

Figured i'd let any other smokers on the board know.. If your feeling outta sorts, your not just losing your mind... Although you probably will be soon.

Phillip Morris did more than change the paper. They also changed the ingredients of the tobbacco. I took the tobbacco out of the FSC ciggaarette and placed it into the paper of a NON-FSC cigarette, and began to smoke it. I immediately began to notice the cotton-mouth the bad taste and the mild throat irritation.

Are Cigs still made in USA? This is a legit question or are they now made in China or some foreign Country? I heard that some Coke is now made in China and shipped here. Thats a very strange thing going on with cigs.

Actually they took a chemical out that keep them burning. Some type of nitate if I remember right. There's like 50 different chemicals that Obama is making them remove. Other big difference I noticed with Marlboro is the ash dropping. Dam ashes fly every where.

I'm thinking they are putting something else IN them, and not telling us.. The amount of replies I found on the internet with the same shit as I'm feeling right now is literally "overwhelming"

Here's something from PM:

Reduced Cigarette Ignition Propensity (RCIP) describes cigarettes that exhibit a greater likelihood of self-extinguishing under prescribed laboratory protocols. A number of states have enacted laws adopting statewide performance standards for RCIP.

It is our understanding that all manufacturers, including Philip Morris USA, use banded cigarette paper to achieve compliance with the performance standard in the RCIP laws. The developers of the test method, the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), have stated that cigarettes with improved test performance are less likely to ignite bedding and upholstered furniture, such as mattresses and sofas. However, there is a limited amount of data regarding their actual real-world impact. It is important to note:

These cigarettes are not “fire-safe.” Anything that burns, if handled carelessly, can cause a fire.
Cigarettes with reduced ignition propensity should be handled and disposed of properly, just like all cigarettes.

PM USA’s cigarettes with banded paper have bands that are applied on top of cigarette paper during the paper making process.
These bands act as "speed bumps" to slow down the rate at which the cigarette burns as the lit end crosses over them.
The idea behind banded paper is that the cigarette is less likely to stay lit or more likely to self-extinguish when left unattended.
Because banded paper makes cigarettes more likely to self-extinguish during normal smoking, some adult smokers have reported annoyance if their cigarette extinguishes unexpectedly.

Here's the states that the law has been enacted in:

http://www.tobaccoissues.com/reduced_ignition_propensity.aspx

I smoke as well Dave, so I feel ya, however, I haven't noticed anything, must by my Ex Navy iron stomach???

I read all that about the banded paper.. I believe something else has changed though. In reading the 100's of threads on the internet with literally 10's of thousands of replies saying the same thing..

Tightness of chest, allergic reactions, taste different, etc.. etc..

For Marlboro yes. But they also have a European Marlboro that is sold cheaper on some cig web sites.

That was my first thought also. First time I noticed was the taste. Did you ever check out the site Cigarti.com, that's the electronic cig with nothing but nicotine in it. Site has tons of info and links.

If you are having tightness in your chest, go to the ER. This is not something to be taken lightly. Could be any number of things, but it is better to be safe than dead.

The state enacted that fire safe cig law here a few years ago and every smoker I know was bitching about horrible taste and feeling sick and thought it was because of some chemical they put in the cigs. Then they passed the law you can't smoke in public places anymore, so I never hear them bitching anymore. They prbably still do.

I'm sure there probably is some chemical shit in the paper that will kill you just as dead as any fire you might cause, or the tobacco smoke itself, but it won't come to light for another 20years or so, and by then you'll likely be dead from it anyway, so might as well smoke up...or not.

Have not noticed any taste or anything of the sort. These new FS ciggs are more of a fire danger in my opinion because at each ring the fucking cigarette falls apart or creates a flying amber of paper and keeps burning anyways:grumble: Stupid idea, not as stupid as starting to smoke 30 years ago:rolleyes: but still a stupid idea.

I'm a very heavy smoker and have been smoking a little over a pack a day for 22 years. Still breathing fine. At least for now and I smoke Senecas. No problems here.

I been having some of the same problems as you Dave since being of summer, got so bad one time I thought O this is it I am finally having a heart attack after 30+ years of smoking. Ambulance came and went off to ER. They did all kinds of test including X-rays of the chest. Morphine was given and in the morning the cardovascular Dr. came in and first thing he said "you didn't have a heart attack" I was like OK WTF was it then. He didn't have an answer did more test. I asked how did my chest X-rays look - he said everything looked normal. I told him been heavy smoker for 30+ years and he said really? hold on and got my file, said the lungs look healthy. He did mention that he lately he has seen more and more similar false heart attacks in smokers. As scarely as that shit was all I could think about in the hospital was I won't get a cig until I get out oh here. So it interest me that you brought this up. Know I got to quit and soon, been going to the gym and dieting so that I can get to that point where I can quit.

I got my GF one of these and she likes it alot. Supposedly it only has nicotine in it , not all of the other crap. Plus you can smoke em anywhere. No more going outside to smoke after dinner or in a movie and most importantly in my truck! I dont let anyone smoke in my truck so now on a road trip you dont have to stop and smoke. Now if I could get her to stop peeing every thirty minutes! :thumbsup

You had this reaction after being in AZ? Do the cigs in AZ have the new fire shit, I heard last year they didnt.

Maybe your used to the Cal cigs, and had a reaction to the "older" ones???

Yes, there are both kinds still floating around. For a long time the Az smokeshop on the 95 in Mohave Valley sold the old cartons. Now, they seem to go back and forth between the "go out" type and the old usual ones. The Avi smokeshop, being in Nevada, still sells the old type.

Years ago I was told the reason cigarettes stayed lit was a derivative of gunpowder in the paper. Now that has been removed and something has been added to make them smoke differently and go out if not drawn on within a few seconds/minutes. I can tell right away which ones I have by the way they burn the paper. BTW, I smoke Kool Milds, not Marlborugh.....Ray

I've noticed all kinds of strange allergies lately. The wife smokes occasionally. I've been getting some funky eye pressure/leaking/tearing crap with some major post nasal drip when she is smoking around and/or near the man cave entrance and/or me. Never bothered me before...and I used to fire up with her all the time mainly when I'm throwing craps...they frown upon spitters on casino tables.

I will say, I do not get any allergic reactions while I'm at work...only when I'm at home. There is a slope (not a slope like Gran Torino but an actual sloped hillside with trees and squirrels) at the end of my street...when the trees blow is when my wifes smoke gets blown towards me. I need to do some controlled test but I'm thinking I may be having a reaction to the foschek they threw up on them hills a few years back during the fires. Maybe I'm really allergic to the slopes considering I work in Westminster and it doesn't kick in until I get home. I'm also allergic to cats...I hate cats. Tight chest, constricted breathing...they don't make very good jackets.

Has anything else changed....the reason I asked is a few months ago pretty much out of the blue, I was waking up in the middle of the night weezing. I bet I didn't make it through the night 1 night out of 7. I could exhale and stop and still hear air weezing out of my lungs. Long story short my kid had three baby rats that had now grown to about 9" long(not counting the tails). And my 15 year old dog a few months prior decided she no longer needed to potty outside. For the 1st time in my life I had athsma(sp?). I 86'd the dog, the rats, carpet and pad, problem solved. Probably isn't your problem but I thought I'd throw it out there, that was a miserable 3 or 4 months.

I looked all over the internet, and even called the Phillip Morris complaint # etc.. They are claiming it's just the banded paper.. Thick / thin / thick etc.. to make it harder for the cigarette to burn on it's own.. I'm going to go with it's bullshit.. They put something in them.

For what its worth a group of us were in Havasu end of June. None of us smoke but we swam, partied, drank and hung out at the sandbar, Nautical, naked pirate etc. I felt horrible for a week afterwards, tight chest caughing and hacking like I had smoked 2 packs. One of the guys had a pretty serious athsma attack. 90 percent of us felt aweful and we were all saying there was something nasty going on in the water. I cant imagine how I would have felt if I was smoking as well. It went away but it was brutal.

I smoke Marlboro 100's myself and have notice that after drinking and somking the night before, when I wake up in the morning my throat feels as if I had smoke a whole pack, when in reality I only smoked maybe 10 MAX and then my throat is sore for days and it's hard for me to breath.

When I keep stabbing myself with a knife...I keep bleeding! It sucks! Now I can only stab myself a few times a week without feeling like shiat! I think they made knives more deadly or sharper or they put some kind of chemical coating on the blade that makes it hard for my blood to clot. I'll try switching brands of knives...that will probably help.

That's why it said Non smokers need not respond in the 1st post.

That sucks, just smoke more Dave. You'll get used to it. The tightness will go away if you smoke enough. Your body just isn't use to the new poisons err papers they have added. Remember the first time you smoked you may have coughed, but you worked through that. You'll work through this just fine. :D

Burn away!!!! Look at it on the bright, you only have a couple of more months until you quit right? :lmao

As Dave "Nord" stated I to would like to see my friends quit. But hey, when your ready your ready.

What's going on, Dave? Have you found some cigs you like? Have you gotten used to the great new taste? What?

Come on. We're dying to know.

Cut waaaaayyyy back on the smokes..

Went to a couple different liquor stores and bought up whatever cig's they had that aren't "FSC" that they still had on the shelves..

Ended up with a couple packs of Chesterfield 100's.. LOL and Merits. I like the Merits better. No issues with smoking the non FSC smokes.

In any event, I returned the Chesterfield's today because they tasted kinda like asphault. I got some merit "lights" and ended up with a pack of "Doral's."

I have had 3 cig's today (down from abuot 10 - 15?), they were Doral's.. I feel like I have a tumor in my freakin head, and it's hard to breath.. Looked the pack over a little more closely and found the dreaded "FSC" under a sticker that was on the celephane. fuckers..

Threw them in the trash.

That's the updates Tom.. Been doing some more reading online, pretty unbelievable shit being said about the FSC smokes. One report claims there are more carcinogens in a single FSC cig now then their used to be in a CARTON!

I dunno, whatever they put in them I know it doesn't agree with me.

Try Sherman's, they never had the potassium nitrate in them to keep 'em lit, they are also good for dipping.

Dave,
Try the Seneca cigarettes. I've been smoking them for a couple of years now and really like them.
