What is the best way to quiet down a Merc 600 in a deck boat at cruising speed ? I talked to a few guys running gibson and a few others, They said it makes them a little quieter at idle but really
does not help that much at cruising speeds. Any ideas and prices it may cost, Thanks

I removed my mufflers after my wife told me the old Magic sounded better than the new Howard...... I don’t recall how much quieter it was at cruising speed

Twin engine setup with 600's was way too loud. Running these Aqua Power mufflers. No moving parts, packing to go bad, and they are built from 316. Paul the owner knows his stuff will answer any questions. The dual built in clamp is way nicer than anything out there.

My Howard has a 600 with a Stage 3 and it has the clamp on Gibson Bullet Exhaust. It is considerably quieter at all RPM's than a stock 600 and they simply clamp on the exhaust tip. they also cut down on the soot on the transom. Cost about $900 I think. totally worth it to actually hear the stereo!!

Don't have a 600 but I've become a big fan of the turndowns. Can talk to wife at wakeless speeds. Even at speed they seem quieter than when I had mufflers clamped on.

Dude I got my downpipes all polished up nice from a guy put new bolts in got them all snugged up and headed to Powell thinking I was over the 2 600's screaming. Well my kids my friends kids strangers and the rangers called me a gay pussy so I took them off.

You should try 'em when nobody's looking.:p
They're a comfortable db at idle/wakeless but don't sound like fluffy mufflers. Literally, at 4.9mph they begin to come out of water on my boat.

LMAO!! You sure it was because of the turn downs?

For the OP I'd look into a set of turn downs.

Because you said the rangers were calling you a pussy too! :D

Ya I really thought that was a little unnecessary..HA. In all seriousness me and my buddy were sitting on the hatch of his Malibu when the kids were surfing and the rangers pulled us over for that.

I have a 600sci stage 4 with Gibson bolt on mufflers and you can talk at cruising speeds and hear the radio.the kids want me to put straight tips on. it does not sound like a 900 horse boat it is kind of a sleeper.

Do you need to run rubber flaps with the gatlins? My boat exhaust sits above the water line at idle...looking for ideas to not hinder performance after engine rebuild in the winter. Current tips have weld in mufflers, the ones with 3" long slots and a diversion plate for lack of better word, and clamped on rubber flaps.

I have Gibson’s with my 600 stage 3 and it’s pretty quiet. The blower whine however makes your ears bleed.
