They can be fast depending on the flavor/$$$ of the build. (Throw on 10k of brakes, 5k in suspension and a 800hp whippled coyote )

Personally have a hard time thinking they will run with a new mustang or camaro at double the price and these things don't exactly appreciate. Its basically a slow but scary car compared to modern muscle/sports cars.
The 427 AC Cobra was the first car to go 0-100-0 in 10sec, actually i think it was 10.2sec, it wasn't until about 20 years ago when the ZO6 beat that, new mustangs and camaros haven't done that yet. Other cars have done that since but only a few. That's a long time to hold that record.

I would be surprised if a new ZL1 or GT500 couldn't beat a 20 year old z06 in that test. I think the Tesla Plaid is the champ but only because it gets to 100 so fast.

Cobras weight about 2200lbs. Power to weight is insane and most cars couldn't match up to that due to required safety and crash equipment.

Don't get me wrong they are nostalgic and bad ass I/ just think people don't understand how dangerous they are in the hands of an average driver.

The words of caution are real.

If I romp on the gas while cruising in second gear it tends to smoke both tires and start to go sideways.

It's a lot different than my daily driver Honda insight!

Don't you think you're comparing apples and oranges? 🤔

Or...

Have you been hanging around RD too long, and now you need heated seats and AC, in your SxS?

😁

Could you check with him? She wants the Blacked Out Package, Yes we are prepared for the $$$$$. Wife is turning 62 next month and wants to spend her SS check on a car lol.

Yea she’s a keeper. Her Dad turned a wrench for a stock car team that raced at Saugus Speedway years ago, so she’s a gear head too.
Are you guys aware of the Saugus FB page?

I have been around a couple kits including a real deal 289 car.

No desire to own one for what I like to do with cars.

Yes I am partial to heated seats and AC in a car. Cup holders and a Roof for rainy days are nice as well...lol

I used to be quite the car guy at one time, started out at 21 an engineer at Chevrolet. I remember well looking at these when they came out, if I remember right they were 7k. I remember standing there looking at it and said what the hell would anyone want something like this for and bought a Corvette. Then again I’ve never been known for having a great judgement. I spent most of my spare time looking and loving all the cars. Other than pretty standard stuff, ie 427 SS Impalas and such, about all I ever bought was a set of Yenko valve covers, still have them in the box.

I've worked on both the Factory 5 and the Superformance.

I'm gonna say it greatly depends on who rigged it?

I think the fit and finish on the Superformance was better. I put a FAST EFI and redid the cooling system completely on a friend of mines car.

They both had stroker 427ci engines and Tremic's in them. There was Definitely no lack of power.

I've never heard of a Backdraft before. Do you have a link to the car you want?
Roush stroker with a Tremec 3550. Pushing just shy of 600hp. Crazy acceleration.

Nice.

The pics I posted are of my buddies car that I put FAST EFI in.

With the shit fuel today, it fucks up a carb real quick if it sits! He had had enough of rebuilding his carb every year.

No complaints with the FAST kit. It's been on there about six years now? He's still very happy with it.

Yeah, I have gone through a couple carbs and a bunch of rebuilds. I am running ethanol free gas now and it's a night and day difference. If I had to do it over again, I would have done the 8 stack injection that Roush offers.

That was considered as well. 👍🏼

My wife wants one, probably a pre built Backdraft with a Coyote 5.0 and 5 speed. Anyone have one and can offer some suggestions?
Correct me if I'm wrong but if you were a baller wouldn't you want the real deal not a replica?

Thread title “Any Of You Ballers Got A Cobra Replica?”
Yea, we don’t have the funds for a real one, and I like the modern technology on the new ones.

I’ve gotta pay for my toys, so this will be her nut. It sounds like shes gonna spend most of her monthly SS check on the payments.

We’ve kept our money separate since we got married 8 years ago. We both got bent over in divorces, so we like keeping our money separate.

Just had dinner with an old friend. He is selling his Father’s house and cars. He has a Evert Morris body from the 80’s. A 4.6 Mark 8 engine in it. He is trying to get 25k out of it. It is now in northern Michigan if anyone is looking for one.

Funny, both my wife and I have done the same, and for the same reason. 😁 Now, 41 wonderfully married years later, our finances have been so thoroughly co-mingled it's rather pointless, but old habits are hard to break. 😆

Having the money to purchase an authentic vintage Shelby Cobra and having the money to drive it like you would a replica, are two entirely different financial realms.

Years ago I bought an AC MK 4 with a 427 side oiler and a top loader. The aluminum car was shipped from England to Calif less motor and trans. When I bought it from the original owner, I had Bill Larzelere in Burbank strip the car, paint it, re wire and change the interior

and trunk to original Cobra specs.

That's the route Monster Motorsports took with a brand new '95 Miata with less than 20 miles on the clock. After they worked their performance, handling, wheels, brakes, frame re-enforcement and body work, and the Whippled 5.0, the only thing Miata retained was the soft bits of the interior. It also had a fully functional AC and radio with speakers in the headrests and a soft top, although this wasn't a rainy day car.
I'd driven Cobras, I'd outgrown that life-phase and wanted to use it for Sunday drive with my wife.
After ten fun years I sold the demon bitch 😈 after realizing the temptation to indulge in extremely detrimental driving behavior, was like a narcotic to me and I figured my luck couldn't last forever. 😁

For me, it really is more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow.

I keep test driving the Boxster GTS and it just isn't as engaging as my (modified) Miata.

Can't go from first to third in a city block, for example.

(And I would like to prefer the Boxster, because I do like the Macan GTS more than my CX-5. But OCD says my cars must match.)
