Been rolling with UPS for going on 22 years now, love my job. Great pay, paid full benefits for me and my family, pension. I get to work outside in sunny San Diego and it keeps me active.
Anyone else here down with brown?

I know UPS freight is no longer

Used to be. Unloader, sorter, PT supervisor. Being a supervisor ruined it for me. But hey they paid for my college because I was one. Probably had another year or 2 until I could have went driving

Management can do that but like you said, they paid for your degree which you can take anywhere

I have a love hate relationship with you UPS guys. Driver makes the morning delivery, opens the door and all my stuff falls out onto the ground. High dollar stuff. Good luck collecting on a claim.

I worked as a seasonal loader for about a week right out of high school. Couldn’t hack it. Tough gig you all do.

Our daughter's FIL drove for and retired from UPS. His routes were the greater Eli NV area, He tells me he had some 500 mi days with just one delivery. He's a great guy and can talk to anyone. I can only imagine how some of his days went.

A couple of the routes I worked had accounts with sex toy companies. A couple of times I loaded up a 48' trailer full front to back of pallets of dildo's

Part timer starting on my 18th birthday many decades ago while in college.

13.70 an hour plus full benefits. The equivalent of 45.49 an hour plus full benefits today. 😳

Little hot in the 110 degree heat but good pay for a hard days work.

I get it. That could be attributed to a lot of things. most of us do try to be mindful of customers stuff and not damaging it. I know the claims part is sometimes impossible, no different than an insurance company trying to not pay you out.

There’s definitely routes like that, I used to do one that ran about 330-350 a day in 115 heat

probably the only part time job out there that pays full benefits and contributes to a teamsters pension on your behalf

Now do FedEx .... I've never seen a bigger bunch of lazy fucktards. I hear the FedEx guy show up because his POS van has squeaky brakes.....I need to drop what I'm doing and beat him to the front door or I'll have a sticker there telling me he couldn't deliver....he doesn't even bring the box out, just the sticker. Doesn't knock, just the sticker. I've had to chase the fucker down a few times.

All my UPS drivers are awesome, so much so that I hand them a $20 every now again just for not being like the FedEx drivers.

Their phone system and customer service can suck my dick though.

The problem with fed ex is there is no continuity in that company, express is separate from ground, ground guys are contractor, minimal accountability

My dad did 35 years with UPS. I remember him being at work from 5am-8pm. He work his ass off for our family. He was mostly in management but once he became a supervisor, it almost killed him. His health went to shit and he stepped down for less stress.

Seen that before. One manager we had had a stoke a year after he retired. It ain’t worth the stress

So its not just in Austin 🤬

UPS recently lost one of my customers cylinder heads and I had to pay to replace it out of pocket. The "loss" is still "under investigation" a month later.

however I still rather deal with them 8 days a week over Fedex who Ive been fighting with to deliver a steering cable of all things for going on a week now. Ya, I have 4 door tags including 2 while I was home.

My best friend is pretty high up in the UPS airplane maintenance crew.
A lot of posts here talking about the down side...Funny thing is, he's told me a couple of stories about them loosing parts to their own planes trying to ship them out. LOL!

My daughter painted this turbine blade for one of his crew's retirement.

That is awesome!

yes people tend to point to the negative and I can’t blame them. But they do sometimes forget when you move millions of pieces a day shit does happen, it really is the nature of the business across all carriers, some are just better than others

I know exactly what you’re referring to Tom. A lot of people hate when they are on a “training route“ but I’m glad you guys are happy with your drivers.

You get more flys with sugar than vinegar , We treat them with respect and when it comes for a "favor" they help out , a while we sent a 4$k pump package out without a LABEL , we typically have drivers cell , he worked with us to email a label to the hub 😍

I did the UPS thing for about 8 years. Started out as Christmas help at nights after working my 8-5 day job. It was local sort at the Westlake Center (now in NP)- unloaded package cars, sorted packages and loaded the outboudn trailer.. I was young- I just bought a house, a new truck and a new boat and was looking to make some additional money. I was eventully hired on permanent and continued to work my normal 8-5 and the UPS after wards. Evenually drove as a fill in driver taking splits from other drivers, doing bulk pick ups and next day air runs down to Burbank and LAX where we loaded all next day air shipments directly onto the pane. After about 6 years of working 2 jobs I quit my normal 8-5 and ended up driving full time for UPS for almost 18 months.

The company I left made me a great offer to come back and I took it and ended up quitting UPS. UPS was a good company for me. I struggled at times being union worker for the simple fact of just wanting to get my job done so I could get home. Being older now I understand some of it better. Drivers are in it for the long haul and they were protecting employess from burnout and injuries, etc..

Respect these guys its hard work and not for the wussies. Doing 150-200 stops a day takes a toll on you mentally and physically.

I’m a proud teamster and happy for all they fight to provide for me, but the union protects guys like me who bust my ass eveyday, but also the guys who are worthless POS. When you’re a new driver it is hard to take shit from the senior guys, but that’s just part of the game. as you get older and gain seniority you do slow down because you start to realize your not gonna last 35 years if you kill your self, that doesn’t mean you can’t work hard and have a sense of urgency.

Yup , only problem is on a training route ya get a noob they either pass or fail , when they pass they get moved up.... Atascadero streets are frikken nightmare like "labyrinth" , start/stop morph got to be a "veritable proving ground" for drivers

That and have good Insurance. Always thought it was odd that I have to pay for insurance for someone to do their job. That being said, it's amazing how few problems we encounter. When you're shipping out packages valued at 5K plus each you don't want problems.

I had a bad experience recently. Sent my retirement package to Maryland. 2 tries to deliver the paperwork after the office was closed. I call the 800 number and told them their hours. 3rd time they left it at a side door. Good thing I called the office to check to see if they got the paperwork. They didnt so I had to start all over filling out the forms and getting the papers notarized.

We have a great UPS driver at my work. He knows all the girls names and knows when we are open. 😝

The only great Fedex driver I had quit and works for UPS now lol. Occasionally he fills in on his "old" fedex route when the regular UPS driver takes vacation days.

Worked at UPS for 30 years, now retired. 10 years in package, 20 years in Feeder, working in feeder, is like working for a totally different company. We used to call it the “country club” I worked out of Cerritos, Anaheim/Laguna.

So interesting you say that. I put my request for feeder early In my caree. I was promoted full time package in less than 5 Years, so I assumed I would ride that age bracke/seniority wave into feeder Which I did. I got called up to feeder around 19 years when I thought I’d get the call closer to 25-26 years.

a guy just before he went into it and said it was like working for a different company. I went to day one of training and had a come to Jesus moment. which the hours and work schedule it didn’t fit my life with 3 young kids at home. Pulled out and glad I did, ended up within a year getting a retirement route in package. I may still go feeder at the tail of my career.
