Well the deal is done, I have officially signed the offer letter to my new job in Phoenix, my start date is 7/29/24.

We just got back yesterday from a scouting trip where we checked out Gilbert, Queen Creek, Mesa, and the very northern part of San Tan Valley. We think Queen Creek/north San Tan is the winner.

It’s now time to find a rental, my worry is I haven’t had a paycheck in two weeks and I will not have one before we move out. I have requested a letter of intent from my new employer, is this all that is needed? We also have enough in our bank to cover the whole year lease term, I’m not sure if that will help with approval at all?

We would like a 3-4 bed one story in a community that has pools and parks with a budget of $2200. We have one good size neighborhood in our sights that has 4 different houses for rent but any other recommendations are welcome.

Assuming you have good credit, proof of funds and a letter from employer I don’t see an issue.

Congrats!!

Welcome to the neighborhood sir!

I gave my landlord two months prepaid to sweeten the deal. He was super happy about it and I think it put me "in front of the line". As a bonus, Dec and Jan are paid and can go towards Christmas. LOL

That was over a year ago, time flies lol.

I appreciate your help, funny how I end up on the exact opposite side of Phoenix…
Is that where your job is at?

It’s in Chandler
Try that drive during rush hour from San Tan to Chandler just to make sure if you havent yet. Like ya said, North San Tan better because when looking at my Dads house deep in San Tan the traffic surprised me a bit for South San Tan from Gilbert. Always took 30 mins.

Basically no freeways to get there so the surface streets were a bit busy.

I checked yesterday while we were there, from our hotel in Gilbert to work was 17 minutes with no traffic at 7:00am. One of the farthest houses we looked at in north San Tan was 34 minutes at 9:00am

Unless yesterday was a weird no traffic day it wasn’t too bad.

My commute in Corona was about 20 minuets in the morning and 45-60 in the afternoon.

It’s definitely lighter traffic this week for the 4th.

Double that from Halloween to Easter.

The snowbirds are that bad huh. Even in the mornings?
Yes, and they all appear to go out in the mornings to do shopping, eat breakfast, etc.

Try going to a Costco at opening during snowbird season, there’s a line that looks like people are preparing for a hurricane, and the place is full of snowbirds pushing around a cart with one goddamn thing it it. Doesn’t matter what Costco you visit they are all like that.

School also has a pretty big effect on traffic- but most of the East valley is year round and I think they just went back.

San Tan and Queen Creek are the Temecula of Southern California. Snowbirds are out for the kill when driving as well as everyone else. People in Az just love to total their vehicles. Leave the Ca mindset and lifestyle in Ca. Do yourself a favor and get a local number. Don't expect anyone to work more than 8 hours. They'll ask you who the fuck you think you are if you push them past 8 hours.

2 things to look forward to are yield on green left turns and no clover leaf on ramps or off ramps except for I17 and Carefree Hwy but it has both styles.

Also, if anyone has any restaurant recommendations post them up. Especially good Mexican food.

Congrats and good luck!!

Please make sure you come back here and bash CA as soon as possible. 😝 🤣 🤣
Thank you! We will be back a ton. We have a baby shower to come to two weeks after we move.

Hopefully I don’t lose my edge when it comes to aggressive driving.

The first year you'll go quite a bit. It'll slow down the 2nd year. By the 3rd year, between Blythe and Moreno Valley you'll ask yourself what am I doing here? You'll do your business and get back home.

I’ll be in Phoenix next week teaching a basic metal framing class. Way too hot for that stuff 😂😂
Hotel to car, car to apprenticeship...all you gotta do! Just like getting the boat to the ramp, gotta be done ;)

But yes, way too hot to be framing outdoors!

To be honest, I have not had ANY bad food here yet. I swear, maybe it just tastes better in AZ, but everything we have tried has been on point.

Best of luck to you on your move. I have to agree with offering more month up front on the rental. That would help coming from the landlord perspective. good on the drive test run. Others are right on the snowbirds. They create a different pattern of traffic, shopping and eating for sure.

This is our friends. They say they moved from Cali but are there almost once.a month. LOL

Not gonna lie, the people here also drive like idiots. I feel like though its controlled Chaos in Cali, here its just fuckery. Iv'e learned to just be the old guy in the slow lane and I give Zero Fucks.

I made a mistake last Friday to make a bombing run back to Cali to grab the last of my storage unit. left at 10am. I could not believe the amount of AZ people headed on the 10 to Cali. Every plate I saw was AZ. Took 9 hours to Huntington Beach. Sat for 1 hour outside Blythe for a standstill accident. It sucked ass!

When I need to go for business now, I am flying. No more driving for me.
