What a sad outcome.
A medical examiner in Texas has ruled that Los Angeles Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs died from an accidental overdose of drugs and alcohol.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office said in a report released Friday that Skaggs had the powerful painkillers fentanyl and oxycodone, along with alcohol, in his system.
The autopsy listed the cause of death as a "mixed ethanol, fentanyl and oxycodone intoxication with terminal aspiration of gastric contents," which essentially means Skaggs choked on his vomit while under the influence.
I knew it. Fucking terrible way to go.Absolutely tragic.
Praying it wasn't an opioid OD from the TJ surgery in 16.

Yep...Having surgery and then being on pain killers can become addicting. My wife had foot surgery a couple weeks ago. A couple days ago we got a letter in the mail from our insurance warning her about the medicine she was prescribed and how addicting they could be. Could have happened to anybody. RIP Tyler.RIP. Going against the grain here... I am not surprised by the toxicology report. With all due respect.
What about every other drug addict who over doses ? I'm sorry he died but it does not make him a hero . I can have compassion but not think he should be celebrated .With all due respect...and then bash the guy?? Not many can handle the fame, money, pain, ability to make everyone happy at such a young age. Tyler was an amazing athlete, had surgery, and was given these drugs that worked for him. Who knows? His mom was an amazing person who has got to be crushed. One of my best friends died this week, 100% because of his demons. Because of his brains & skills had too much money too young. Super sad week. You try to help, but it isn’t enough. All I can say is rip, God speed & hope we meet again. So sad!
Wow... what a shitty way to die.
I will never tell.a grown man how to voice their opinion.
All I am saying ..... imagine if this was your son. How would you want the public to talk about him? I can only imagine the pain in burying one of your kids. There is no pain greater than burying a kid.
Again, voice your opinion but just remember that this was somebody's kid. I found out from a mutual friend ( when this happened) in the Angel's organization and wished I hadn't
I have a feeling this may open a Pandoras box as the MLB takes a closer look at the team and other team members.
Sorry....can't even imagine your pain. You can't keep someone from being themself.
I've been through it with a child.
Fuckin the most horrible experience of my life. 10 years into this now.
You remember when that child was just born.
That baby there in the hospital room being warmed, just minutes old, all the good things you want for them. All your loving thoughts about that newborn.
Then the nightmare of dealing with the addiction, walking up to the courtroom door and their is your child's full first, middle and last name on that days trial.
All the things you loved about your child are gone. Unplugged from their life, they never come back.
The worst personal attack towards me in this forum was from an advocate of recreational drug use.
That asshole is probably reading this post now.

I never realized there were so many people dying from such painful contractions? RDP never disappoints!Oxytocin's is one of the most addictive drugs ever prescribed. When it stops masking the pain it is common to supplement with alcohol. When oxytocin's and alcohol stop masking the pain, many turn to herion.... Unfortunately, many times it ends in badly. My dad always taught me to not second guess another person's actions until you have walked a mile in there shoe's. This was a very sad ending to what was probably a very painful experience. RIP Tyler, no more pain.
With all due respect it's time to stop honoring people like this . There are countless athletes or artist who get a pass . Instead of honoring it's a good life example for parents to teach there children " don't be this guy ! " . Rip but what a fucking waste

A lot of the reason they get away with it is the big money they make with signing bonuses. These kids are suddenly rich and living together in the minors. No one around to say no or afraid the no will alienate them. A lot like how no one would stop givng Elvis what he wanted......Have to agree with this. He was honored because no one wanted to speak the truth about what killed him, when all his teammates and trainers knew exactly what got him.
He should be used as an example of what not to do for the younger generation of baseball players. Got hurt, played in pain, someone gave him an RX and that was the start of the downhill spiral that resulted in his dearth. Finally had surgery, someone else gave him a new RX and this young mans life would never recover. Don’t honor that downhill spiral, use it as an example to change what could occur to younger players.
Pain mgmt in sports kills more then people realize. Once hooked, your done.
“All his teammates and trainers knew exactly what got him”. How do you know this? Are you saying his teammates knew he was taking pills? Ausmus said he didn’t know he was.Have to agree with this. Seems hypocritical to post in the homeless thread about the drug use on the streets and what pos the homeless are but then post up condolences here....guy played stupid games and won the ultimate stupid prize imo.

Ok fair enough for his teammates. What about his mom, wife, brother....Wonder who the Angel employee is that may have supplied him with the pills. His alcohol level was pretty high from what I read.No one is going to admit it.
If anyone say they knew, they will be trashed in the media ASAP.
Young, and a bag of cash. He partied too hard. Case closed. RIP.
...and you know this firsthand exactly how?

I don't. I also don't know anyone who has been forced pills and alcohol down their throat. Choices. Responsibility. Partied too hard. Consequences.
You can get all the opiates you want and pass a drug test as long as they were prescribed, but smoke one joint for pain and you are put on probation or banned as medical marijuana is federally illegal.
Silly world we live in.
