All students, non students, and faculty should be arrested with zero bail. Await trial.

Faculty fired on the spot.
Students: expulsion from the school with no credit given, not allowed to ever attend another university.

Non students: jail if convicted.
Non-US or immigrant students:
Pay up front for damage costs. Expulsion.
Jail time.
Then deportation.

Don’t know the politics on this one, so I can’t comment (other than it being State property). I’ve worked many of those kinds of things right alongside LAPD and they’re solid motherfuckers when their command lets them be.

Things have changed a LOT for both departments in the last couple years.

Meaning CHP takes lead and calls the shots, LAPD has the most readily available resources on tap "quickly" in the area, until the CHP musters it's resources statewide. Plus, LAPD does not want any part of that political football.

LAPD comes in to back them up (they could have easily just stayed off campus and said ‘naw, we got Westwood and you can handle your own shit’… but they never do.. they’ll *always* offer mutual aid).

It is convenient for some with an agenda to paint all 45,000 with the broad brush of the couple hundred.

Meanwhile, as you point out, the vast majority want to do exactly as you suggest, get their degrees and keep positively progressing forward in their lives. They are positive productive young Americans.
