Stupid question here but how do tires have anything to do with that video....looks like a guy crosses into oncoming traffic and the oncoming traffic had no time to adjust and its a yardsale....

Most likely front tire blowout on the RV making it cross over. When they blow you are pretty much just along for the ride.

Most likely a steer tire blowout. Had it happen to a buddy in FL but he luckily had a super wide center median and didn't make it to oncoming traffic. Trucker stopped who had a dashcam and sent him the video...

Blowout caused the sudden change of direction.

When I bought my coach this summer I was flying from Alaska to San Antonio to drive it home to Mass. Paid for an 8 hour inspection and even though the tires looked brand new (14K on them) I had new ones installed due to being 7 years old, videos like that are why.

Well, that certainly puts a differrent perspective on the value of your rv tires now doesn't it? Suddenly $1,000.00+ for good tires appears much more reasonable. Proper inflation, condition, age and tread life all make a difference in the safety of your and others.
I can only imagine what the last seconds/minutes of those lost in this horrible accident were like. May they all rest in peace.

Absolutely. The loss of life is obviously the most important thing but even if you get lucky and no one is hurt you’re still down. The motorhome I referenced above was down 6 months waiting for repairs and I believe they had to pay out of pocket for repairs 👎

I just towed my boat home for the first time in ages.

First thing I did was have @RVRKID hook me up with some new trailer tires and had all the wheel bearings checked and lubed.

Hated to do it, tread was still brand new, but driving across the desert, it was nice to not have any worries. 👍🏼

This place took good care of me...

Ouch!!! I have been reading the value of changing steer tires every two years. Some say they rotate them to the rear rires so the rears get refreshed over time

My brother and sister in law brag about how much nicer it is to have a class A than my truck and fifths wheel setup.

When it comes to crashes I like our chances with the truck allot better.

This is what $60,000.00)+ damage looks like after a front blowout. Not only did exterior damage, but ripped up tile on the inside, broke furniture and broke the windshield.

… Never had a flat or a blowout on either of my two motorhomes… Kept an eye on the date codes… did pretty well with my Dodge Ram…And the 11 foot Lance camper until the day when I left my Lake Oroville property and did not check the air in the right rear tire of the truck… As it had a slow leak… lost the tread on the tire, which ripped up the side of the truck bed… Did not lose any air …was close to a truck servicing place and they put the spare on for me… thanks to Allstate insurance …all was covered👍🤷🏽‍♀️

2 1/2 year old Yokohamas that’s not my coach, but a very good friends. I was right behind him in my coach when that let go. Looked like a bombshell went off.

Yep, he had it towed. They had to block that line off to release the brakes.

I'm not sure I agree...certainly depends on the driver, coach, location, etc. I couldn't tell from that video if the coach had a tag axle or not. My coach does, and I've had a front right blowout with the cruise set at 70 on the I-15.

Big boom, thought a pan fell out onto the tile at first. TPMS alarm 2 seconds later. Coach is still going straight. Notice the TPMS, and start feeling a pull to the right. Add 90* left steering input to keep it in my lane. Coast probably 1/4 mile and slowly apply brakes. At this point the right front rim was on the ground and sliding as it was locked. Luckily the only damage was the ABS wire being yanked out of it's connector, and the rim/tire. Replaced the rim/tire, coiled up the ABS wire and continued on.

I attribute some of it going straight to having the tag axle. In the case of the video, if I were driving that thing when it went into the median, I would have been hard to the right to correct and either hope it comes back or digs in and goes on its side...anything to avoid oncoming traffic.

What most people dont know is how to react to a steer tire blowout, as soon as you recognize the problem one must stand hard on the gas versus getting out of the throttle. Stand hard and get your shit together andregain control and get over. When you jump out of the gas when it happens you will be sucked over to the bad side immediately.

I change out my dump and horse trailer tires every 4 years, not worth having a 14000 lb trailer with a blow out!

I kept my trailer tires for nearly 14 years. Why? Because I tow the boat 2.2 miles, never over 35 mph. Just cross over the 95. They were literally bald when I replaced them. I was concerned about being pulled over for tire condition.

Dual axle trailer.

Havasu, I have had good luck with The Tire Man.

OC, I have great experience with Tucker Tire in Aliso Viejo… but I think there is a guy on the board that treats guys real good…. Anaheim?

Almost same exact damage I had when it happened to me. One of the scariest moments in my life for sure.

Just got on the 86 from the 10 heading toward Glamis doing 60mph. I see the first light ahead about a mile ahead and let off the throttle, then what sounded like someone firing a gun right next to me goes off, followed with motorhome pulling hard left. I kung fu grip it to counter it, backend on the other side comes off the ground, counter that then it pulls hard right puts my into the dirt ditch off the highway as I slam the brakes hoping I don't through the windshield. The dirt acts as a truck runaway section so that helped stop me.

Tire exploded so bad it blue the inner liner above it which then lodged itself between the front of the wheel the bumper area which was one of the main causes of it pulling one direction. When I countered it we guessed it moved it then sandwiched it making it pull the other direction. My buddy was following me in his truck in the lane to the left and was almost to my bumper when it happened. He said both sides of the rear tires came off the ground as he slammed his brakes and put his truck in the center dirt ditch thinking he would get hit. So yea, keep an eye on tire age and health at all times fellas!

Not only replace your tires and inspect… but you absolutely need a tire pressure monitor system. We have ours and I’d bet it could’ve prevented that accident above if they saw a spike or rise in temp and pressure they could’ve taken action quickly. We also have dual wheel balancers to keep the drive axle tires balanced.

We have had a tag axle blowout and zero damage.

Dunno why people buy those wood and staple death traps. That thing disentegrated into a billion splinters.

Get something with a full chassis and structure.

They say those motorhomes handle like a mid-engine Corvette, until the front tire blows. 😉
