While I have not been out to Glamis lately, we used to spend a lot of time there. Anybody that has been out there has probably seen a bunch of stupid stuff. What are some of the fun or crazy things you've seen or done there?

Here is a shoot that we did for a magazine back in the 80's - we were there for a field test of a Quad we had built. While jacking around with some down time, one of the guys pulled some gear out of his truck and said - lets try skiing !

Well, somehow the magazine needed some filler In August 1986, and low a behold - there we are :eek

That's classic....he must've had some good face plants. I seized my CR 250 in the worst possible spot one time in about 1986 and I had a few good ones myself getting towed out:rolleyes

30 years worth seen it all. As for the last few not as much anymore but still see something here and there. Best was setting up at drags near the biggest dip or whoops and watch kids try to race their moms navigator or dads truck only to hit the dips hard bottom out coolers go flying sand in the air and the front Lowe bumper hitting so hard it goes flying off. Lol

This guy was out a few months back...straight out of the 80's! He was riding a Honda 110 with a cooler and no helmet, alone. We were cracking up, and it was just a glimpse of the simple fun that we used to enjoy at Glamis! ImageUploadedByTapatalk1454631817.172781.jpg

I miss it, I stopped going after overzealous enforcement became commonplace.

A lot of good years between 82-2008.

I miss it, but it only takes a thread or two and I remember why I don't go anymore.

We used to do a lot of Sobe bombs. When they were done right, they were bad azz! When they were done wrong, the bottle would usually just break, and maybe throw glass a couple of feet, so you would stand back from the fire a good twenty feet at least.

So one night...

The bottle breaks, and this girl close to me starts crying...

She falls to her knees, and holds her hands to her face, and starts saying "my eye, omg, my eye".

My heart falls in my chest. Here we are WAY deep in the washes, maybe two hours from the Brawly hospital, and this girl has glass in her eye. FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are all gathered around her now, wondering WTF are we gonna do, when she looks up and says...

"Just kidding" with a big stupid grin on her face.

NOBODY but her, thought it was funny. :swear

It wasn't a good time at the drags unless you had to go running back at least 2 or 3 times because you thought someone was heading for the crowd. I also saw a lot of good stuff at night at Comp Hill before they started closing it.

Those places are gone now... Greg Biffle built a huge shop back there a couple of years ago.

I always got their names confused.:D
The one across the highway by the cemetery burned down at some point? Not sure if it was rebuilt or not?
I don't think the one behind the store is running.

When I think of Comp Hill all I remember is seeing rows of VW mag blocks burning at the bottom!:hotdevil:hotdevil Those things were bright - especially when 5 or 6 were going off at once.

We used to do the same with the mag lights to comp at night, sometimes from camp spots in the little dunes on the way to Olds back in the day. No bullshit, we always rode 2 wheelers in the daylight but one time I borrowed and brought out a 185S for my night rider. Pull starter, no shocks from what I remember, and made it up olds on a nite ride with a chick on the back, no paddles (up the left side obviously) . Man I miss that....no GPS was the best part....just keep going up high to figure out where you were, cold beers in the 6 pack rack, warm beers in the kidney belt:thumbsup

We've experienced absofuckinloot chaos in the early 2000's.
Brutal, civil war, riot-anarchy conditions throughout the campgrounds.
Everyone forgets that. It was totally fucked.
It's what drove us to Dumont Dunes.

The LEO crackdown was needed and it's not very stringent anymore.

It can be dangerous, but with some precautions it can be relatively safe and fun.

We started using the big wine bottles with screw on caps. My father in law drinks them. I think there called Foxhorn or something. They are big.

So what do you do - just fill them with gas and put in the fire ???

.030 hole in the cap, fill up with gas, make a flat spot and place it in a hot fire with flames going above the top of the bottle. Stand way back, we have had them explode and throw glass everywhere.

It's not easy to get em right. You have to have just the right amount of gas, the perfect size hole, if it gets too hot, the glass will break. You gave to have just the right amount of coals and just the right fire.

I wouldn't try to do one on your own. We have just one guy in our group that was good at it.

Funny thing, he is a cop! 😂

Motorhomes parked off the road to Olds with all the chicks on the roofs taking it off and dancing up a storm and the music blaring!! Also, the far off thunder of a bad ass jeep was about the only v8 you'd hear all weekend!

We take a small metal folgers coffee can and cut small slits in it. Poke a hole in the lid of a big mouth with a thumb tack. The folgers can keeps glass from going everywhere in a failure, but still lets it get plenty hot.

Less is more. We use the Sobe bottles too but just a small amount. Like 3/4"-1" max. It's the fuel vapor that makes them mushroom like your picture.

You'll know when you did them wrong because everyone's awnings left out overnight looks like Swiss cheese in the morning [emoji2]
