Really, I wouldn't be surprised given the areaThere is some footage on Facebook showing damage looking like it was shot down.
I saw that as well, looked like a bunch of bullet holes. There is some footage on Facebook showing damage looking like it was shot down.

The flight crew made a commendable effort to get it on the ground. It looks like the plane was in phugoid oscillations in the video you posted, and that the pilots lost control just before it crashed. They acquitted themselves well, saving many lives.29 people survived, hats off the pilots, RIP to them and the ones that didn't make it
They are speculating it was RussiaSo who shot that aircraft down?
The geography doesn't work out for this to be Ukrainian missiles.
The Russians are pulling a page out of the script from the movie 13 Days, when the Navy Captain reports his RF-8 was hit by "sparrows", when in fact the airplane had sustained anti-aircraft gun damage.
My guess is some poorly trained Russian conscript manning an Air-to-Air missile battery got jumpy and fired on the airliner. A similar incident happened in Iran several years ago.
The next question is why the airplane flew all the way across the Caspian Sea while leaking hydraulic fluid and didn't land at the destination.
This guy lives near Oroville, CA, and did daily, extensive reporting / commentary on the Oroville Dam situation about 8 years ago.

Yes, I knew he is a pilot. I have seen some his other airplane related video. He does do a great job of explaining. He’s also an airline pilot. He’s really good at details and explaining in a way that anybody listening can understand.
Hadn't heard about the GPS being jammed, but the rest sounds about like the first reports out of the foreign media. The first one to state Russia is taking responsibility for it though was the "Center for Countering Disinformation" out of Ukraine. I don't know if Russia will admit it if they are responsible. It is interesting to me that the plane was headed to Grozny. Grozny was attacked with drones last week, the ruler there, Kadyrov announced more troops to back Russia in Ukraine. More drone attacks, and now this. This WSJ article has some interesting information.
GPS jamming isn't directed at individual aircraft or drones. It involves producing signals that mimic and overpower the output from the GPS constellation in targeted areas. It causes receivers in the affected area to shut down, because they detect the information is corrupted. Drones apparently see this as a loss of signal, and fly aimlessly until fuel or batteries are exhausted.Hadn't heard about the GPS being jammed, but the rest sounds about like the first reports out of the foreign media. It's very possible Russia was jamming GPS for drones, and then also fired the missile. With the current world, who knows if we'll ever know.
