That “rock jumping” is so stupid.....especially if you don’t have someone check the landing area depth. I’ve taken lots of kids who are now quads to the spinal care centers in Northern Cal who were “rock/cliff diving”......

Read he surfaced after the jump then took a couple strokes and then went down.

What a shame

Went by this a moment ago. Very sad. I saw the divers going in. Not good.

Be safe out there.

We went by heading to the sand bar when the first sheriff showed up. The huey, the bell, and the astar, were all hitting the deck trying to find this poor kid. Further up it was code3, all hands on deck, just a barrage of sheriffs boats.

It’s a shame. Keep him and his family in our thoughts.

If it’s the same Rock that I think it is, there is one north of the sandbar and I’ve seen some people do and it’s really high.

Exactly! Scares the fuck out of me when my adult son and his friends all want to do this when we’re on lake Mohave once a year.

Went by it on the way back from pirates Cove. So sad to hear of a teen in trouble. I have seen it happen many times in the ocean in Hawaii.

Wife and I were talking about this. Both swam and have dove from 10m platforms. Wife said something I hadn't thought of. The height of the drop and entrance angle. Not so much the depth.

Please let him be found...and let the divers do their deeds in peace:(

If you land wrong and knock the wind out of yourself you have an involuntary reaction to gulp and gasp for air under water, if that happens you are in a world of hurt.

I did have that thought too when a report stated he came up once, dammit anyway shitty deal. other part is someone prolly has it on video. thoughts and prayers.

Damn. I lost a good friend this exact same way in high school when I lived in Havasu. This was back in ‘90. He jumped off the Crystal Beach cliffs, surfaced for a few strokes, and went under.
I hope you are resting peacefully, Jeremy. 15 was too young.
I hope they find this young man quickly.

Another one today.

BULLHEAD CITY, Ariz. — Police in Bullhead City, Arizona, say a 56-year-old Los Angeles-area man was killed when his personal watercraft crashed into rocks on the Nevada side of the Colorado River.

Police on Friday identified the man killed Thursday as Claro Jose Ponciano of San Fernando Valley and said his 16-year-old granddaughter was discharged from a hospital after being treated for unspecified injuries.

Saw that while looking for info on this young man. Said the ski hit rocks by Camp Davis. Families just trying to have a good time.
Be careful all, this ain't no test run.

Very true...I go to Bullhead all the time. You have too many first time and infrequent ski renters flying around a narrow corridor. Looks like a free for all some days.

20 years ago the wife and I would take our skis out and launch and stay at the Riverside. It was nowhere near as busy then. I'm sure it's chaos on big weekends now.

Terrible. Attended a friend's funeral a couple years ago following a cliff jumping incident. Another life ended far too soon.

Just went by this area 20 minutes ago. They are still looking for this poor young man. So sad! They are allowing boats through with a no wave from before the sand bar to up above the rock. Please be safe out there today

I hope they find him quickly. Such a sad deal. Changing our plans for Topock and heading south instead. I dont want to interfere with the search in any way.

So sad indeed.....Unfortunately the holidays have far too many of these stories. Over here, The Gulf and local rivers/lakes have all taken lives this past week and we still got time to go. :(

Be wise, be safe, be smart.....Tomorrow is not guaranteed

Very sad. Saw some recent updates from non emergency people, but waiting for the Mohave County to update.

Praying for the family to have closure.

I thing Mohave Rock is about 10m. Maybe a bit less, but it will hurt bad with wrong angle.

MOHAVE – Sheriff’s officials said they’ve recovered the body of a 16-year-old Victorville teen who died while attempting to cliff dive into the Colorado River.

It happened on Friday, July 5, 2019, at about 4:20 pm when the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a male teen that jumped into the water near Mohave Rock, north of the Sand Bar and had not resurfaced.

The Division of Boating Safety began investigating, with assistance from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Arizona Game and Fish Department, U.S. Fish and Wildlife, and the San Bernardino County Fire Department.

As a teenage boy, you think you're invincible.
I pray the family is there, and he wasn't out with friends. That is a phone call I wouldn't want to make.
I pray he is found.

Something I think about all the time.. You protect your kids and raise them the best you can and even when you get them to adulthood it can still happen.

My heart goes out to his family and friends.. just terrible.

Terrible. Without the facts, I’ll just add that its so incredibly easy to have the wind knocked out of you on a jump. You cant recover from that and tread water at the same time.

Thanks Zig! What a run of bad luck for LP and Ridgecrest people the last few days. My good friend Tony Bartel who started the Willow Valley Trailerhood on Facebook was also affected by the quake. I feel very fortunate right now but bad for my sis and friends.
