Getting a rattling and humming noise coming from one of my AC Condenser Fan Motors.
It starts up fine. But during its run you start to hear a pretty loud rubbing or humming noise coming from it. Noise comes and goes and is not very consistent.

My questions are:
1- are they pretty easy for you homeowner/DIY'r to change out?
-- 4 bolts hold it to cover. Few wires. swap fan blade to new motor?

2- how to find which motor I need.
To say I was a bit taken back by how many options in motors there were to choose from.
I was looking at Grainer to pick one up.
Any recommendations on fan motors? Should I also just get a new fan--or can I reuse old one?

What info can I share to help answer questions.

Exact change out is easy.
Motor usually comes with a capacitor.
It's understanding the motors wire wiring, it can be more that simply replacing wire for wire. But the instructions in the box should be fine, think it through.

Amazon usually has what you need. Cut the shaft with a hack saw.

This will either help you or confuse you:

Maybe check and see if the motor has lubrication holes, I know that some do and might get it resolved without replacement. If you decide to replace make sure you check the length of the shaft on the new motor, I did this on ours and the first motor I got from the local supply house which was a match per their numbers had a shaft that was 1.5 inches longer than the original motor. NBD until it touched the condenser and had to be removed and replaced twice. just wasted time and effort.

I did my river pad one a few years back. The motor I got was as mentioned above, longer shaft. It was 120+...Hacksaw and a beer and it was running. For most motor replacement, they have wiring diagrams with them. I just took a pic of how it was wired, and copied it on install.

Just make sure your amperage match's existing motor, if you damage blade replace with like pitch blade.

Jump the wires and just hold the hacksaw blade against the shaft. Saws the shaft off clean and easy.
