It’s a pipeline pipe dream that uses Canadian tax $$$ to subsidize American oil interests.

Pipelines are the wrong solution to the wrong problem.

Local upgrading and refining capacity would go much further in stabilizing the sector than pumping crude around.

The Canadian government given millions to billionaire Li Ka shing to build a refinery in the past, instead of investing/building more on the West Coast. We have ONLY two refineries in the entire province of British Columbia. Building a new refinery is in billions, not millions. Biggest cost factor in BC would be, all gas and diesel that is sold in B.C. must include renewable materials and meet the province's carbon targets. live in Vancouver, all hidden taxes amount to 60 cent per liter.

Today, there are 15 refineries in seven provinces, producing nearly two million barrels per day. But over the last four decades or so, 20refineries have closed, adapting to changing economics. The ones that are still operating have in many cases improved efficiency and expanded capacity.

Husky is the largest energy company owned by Hong Kong billionaire, who just announced layoffs today.
Sources told BNN Bloomberg’s Tara Weber the layoffs are mostly focused on western Canadian staff, with the majority of cuts happening in Calgary.
Yeah, smart azz squeezer, The cuts come at a time when Husky has been reducing capital spending in the wake of ongoing pressure facing the country’s energy sector.

One thing I agree on with you though, we shouldn't subsidize American oil interests, importing gas from Washington state refinery to meet our demand for gas in BC.
The OGC in Victoria BC, must be in the pocket of American oil industry.:(

The Canadian government doesn't set the price of crude...

The last number I have in my head for the break even point for bitumen recovery is $60/BBL. Not going to argue that if somebody has a better number but assuming that is the case the problem becomes clear:

The Alberta economy by definition is boom and bust...

More $$$ from the entire process helps minimize those cycles as the price of fuel does not follow the same trend as the price of crude.

I believe the boys that drive (drove) HWY63 twice a week could be more useful building a refinery than collecting Pogey.

Ontario screws us again!!!!! But my only surprise was in the riding I live in. In that the conservative won! The scary part is Trudeau needs the communist NDP to pass legislation. With BC being run by the Greens and NDP, we'll never see a new refinery here.

I love to see the west separate from Canada!!!!!

There are not many voters in Saskatchewan or Alberta who would be against a refinery...

In BC its another story!!!! The province is run by the NDP and Green Party now.

A new refinery in (or a pipeline across) BC is stupid. Any serious talk would put it as close to Fort Mac as practical.

My son is heading to Kitimat next month;). LNG is easier to transport from the port of Kitimat than from Fort Mac.:p:D

New refinery in Edmonton area is close to being completed. As knowledgeable as you purport to be about Canadian oil I would have thought this would not be news. The fact that it was built with the unbelievable regulations being developed daily by the federal government is a miracle and it is highly unlikely another could be developed without a huge change in the way the East looks at us.

96% of Canada's oil exports are to the USA...
No way of selling it to anyone else as there is no transportation to do so. By the way, this seems to be because of American funded lobbying to keep Canada's oil in the ground in order to maximise profits from US oil. Look up Vivian Krause.

facts don't mean much to sqeezer, or the 25 years it takes to built a refinery

25 years. Who do you have building them. :D That's a long wait to get paid for retention. :)
That's the Canadian way. Lots of regs, permits, legal challenges, etc. End up with state of the art, but it does take way too long compared to our southern neighbours.

You really are an idiot aren't you. The Athabasca glacier has been retreating for 10,000 years since the last ice age. Even at current rates it will be hundreds of years if not thousands

Squeeze won't respond to that he's too blinded by the global warming bullshit him and his herd of sheep spew!!

Ignorance on parade. Pipelines move products faster and safer than any other method, and Alberta's production would overwhelm several refineries. Moving it to the west coast for export will provide billions in revenue to the Canadian government and its citizens.
