So, I've got this customer, a little 'ol lady named Roselee, that's been coming into the shop for sometime now. She's been bringing in these images that I've been tranfering onto canvas, they look like an oil painting when Mrs. skyskier gets done framing them. At first I thought they were reproductions of old masters, after talking to her, she told me her son was the artist, he's an inmate up at soledad state prison. Now I'll tell you, I've been in the art & framing business for over 30 years, I was a big player in the limited edition art market back in the 80's, and this guy is a good as any I've seen, and better than a lot of others. If you do a google search on "Judy Larson" , my pal, Pauly Starlings, and I were her 1st publisher, American Horse Gallery, Murrieta California. In a span of a little over 3 years we did 5.5 mil in sales, ( man, I MISS those good 'ol days ! ) Anyways, my question to you is , " would you spend say, $250 to $300 to have an oil painting done from YOUR favorite photo of YOUR boat, YOUR car or Your sandrail etc. ? in say a size of 20 x 30 inches ?

I'm just looking for some input here as to whether or not this would be a viable service to offer. Realizing the economic times being as they are, We've had a large influx of " NEW" customers that are sprucing up the house with new or re-framed artwork. Reason's I'm hearing are, " now that we're spending more time at home as opposed to traveling ANYWHERE, figured we'd do some re-decorating.

Intriguing,any pics?

No pics, as of yet, I'm just trying to get some kind of feel as to whether or not anybody would be willing to part with the money. Now that the economy is tanked  this is probably not the best time to start this up, but, like I said , this artist has NOTHING but time right now, 10 to 15 years to be exact :hmm. I'm gonna have him do a couple sample pieces, and I'll add them onto my website.

That would be awesome to have at the river house....even more so once the 10 footer is done. I'm sure Dave would like to have one of both boats side by side or something. The price doesn't sound bad. Probably not something we'd jump on right now but definitely something that we'd like to have once the little boat is done.

I'll put up some samples on my website www.theoldphotocompany.com
as soon as I can get some done. His Mom is going up to visit next month, I have no idea right now as to how long it'll take, or if I could mail him the pics to work from. The more I've been thinking about this , the more I'm thinking about having him do a montage of one boat at a couple different angels, or maybe a progression of somebody's 1st boat, say a flat bottom , then maybe to a daycruiser to the deckboat ?

Already have an oil of one of my first boats that needs to be framed. Does that count. Would love to have one of my current boat. Really need to see some current work though.

I'm dumb enough to fall for the "abstract" routine and pay alot of money for that painting

I always wondered who bought that kind of art -

That is a GE T58 turbine in a Ted Jones ET, built in 1969. I should complete the install and make fire by July 1. Should be a hell of a ride and I would love to have a quality painting to hang on the wall.

Bring it in , as stated in our yellow pages ad " we'll frame anything " :D
For obvious reasons, it's a little difficult to " view " ANY of this guy's works.............unless you are planning on being at the Soledad State Prisons annual "art show " :D

Sorry Matt  I can only handle ONE artist at a time. BTW, : I'm SURE you put a lot of time into this piece of art, but I would strongly advise, " DO NOT GIVE UP YOUR DAY JOB " :D

If you'd pay a lot of money for this painting, you really need to consider hiring an "art consultant" :hmm:D

I'm not gonna be able to make the show this year unless I get framed. Viewing picks will just have to do.

Yes, it will run at the Parker 300. I have already signed up. There will be a back seat if you want to make a lap or two.

It is an endurance tunnel, built for the old Parker 9 hour race. I first restored the boat in 2003 using a 502 Chevy and a #2 speedmaster.

I have been trying to make the Parker 300 every year but something has always gone wrong. Not this year.
