Nearly had the floor in. Just gotta tab that one that's been glassed.
The others will be removable because the fuel tanks gotta slide in under it all.
Then bilgecote the engine bay and its off to the spray painter.

Christmas is ganna bugger me, I won't be back on it till the 8thish next year.

Ah finally decided to go with bilgekote haha, good stuff glad I went with it all you need is the quart of it and you will be surprised on how much that stuff just keeps covering. I did three coats and still have about a quarter of the can left.

I told my family that in Australia they've already had Christmas. Then I told the younger ones to imagine that we drilled a hole through the earth so we could see down under....
Here's the result. ..merry Christmas.

Yeah its the father inlaws, we always do Boxing day to New years around Port Fairy and a few days at Docklands in Melbourne in the footy season.
When it gets cold they take it up north to the Whitsundays, Townsville, Caines.

I've only seen snow once, went snowboarding with the boys about 4 year ago. Bruised me tail bone like unreal, couldn't sit right for 3 weeks.
Yeah I thought it would be late. Its 6.30pm for both us.

I think this is the thermostat housing I'm after. 861188A1.
Ka0tyk that picture doesn't seem to work anymore.
this is more accurate
This one here looks close.
That yellow line will have to be fairly small id reckon create a bit of back pressure to push water through the thermostat when it opens.
I'm not sure what the green is doing?
I'm going to use the a basset T valve and jets in the headers.

Finished the hull today. Glassed the floor in. Didn't get any picts was in a bit of a rush this morning the boys wanted to go yabbying.

Dropped it off to a mates to get sprayed.
He give me his folders of swatches.
Sorta sold on green.
These picts probably have bad light but I like the real dark ones that look green or black depending on what light your in.
Or we just go for a bright candy.
Ganna start assembling the engine tomorrow now I've got no boat.

Went round to a the engine mates (Gary) place this morning drop all the parts off and give him a hand to set it up.
He got me onto a retired hotrodder who specialized on dizzys.
Apparently he setup Peter Brocks dizzys back in the day.

So hes going to set the advance on the distributor for us, I didn't know there was such a science to it.
He wanted to know cylinder head sizes, what fuel, how many skiers I'd be pulling, what carbie, what cam. It was all over my head but Gary had me back 😅

Apparently its got a mild can in it.
Its a Crow 651 if it means anything.
The misses is dragging me around wedding shopping tomorrow and gaz wants to make a start (I'm spewing).

Hopefully I'll get to see how to setup the push rods and rockers on Monday.

Last few days work.
Painted both heads gun metal Grey.
And just alot of cleaning parts and chasing any dust out of everything and sorting out bolts.
Dunno y but someone's Mig welded a bigger pan on the sump?
Push rods turned up today.
Sunday will be a big day, sump, oil pump and pickup, Cam, timing gear and cover, heads can go on, Set the valve clearances.

Need to get a new flame arrester, oil filter adapter and a kit to put through the carbi because it putrid.

Dropped the colours off to the spray painter to get a quote.

Push rods and rockers done. Double checked cam timing.
Went to put the intake manifold and it doesn't fit.
We took the gaskets out and its still a tight fit, so it needs to be machined a gasket thickness plus a bit more.
So I dropped it off to the local machine shop to take 70thou off either side.

Engines done for the moment.
Come up a treat.
Going to paint the sump that cast gray when it gets home, would have done it today but I thought it'll probably get scratched on the way.

Thought I better give Gary Page from Pages Chassis in Maldon a Plug because he's been giving me a fair chop out assembling the engine.

There where a few guys asking about the intake manifold, it was a nice fit with the 70thou taken off.
Inbetween the block and the intake with gaskets in and done up not tight but firm I had ~35thou gap between the intake and block. At a guess I would say torqued up I had a 20thou gap which was what we where looking for.
I used red gasket silicone in the valley rather than the seal that come with the kit.
Has anyone had a problem with dropping the intake down so far that it makes the distributor not sit right on the cam?

Crisis averted 😃
Got the distributor back too.
Here's the timing if it means anything to anyone.
Got it done by Will Farnell, apparently he was Australian Supercar royalty back in the 70s. I could have sat and listen to him and his stories all day today.

I picked up 2 hydraulic oil heat exchangers/coolers from work they were throwing them in the scrap.
They're off a Tamrock rockdrill.
Each boom has its own cooler but they share the same oil, one was letting water into the oil hence why they were getting thrown out.
So i've made one good one out of the 2 and put new orings through it.
You can see where it got damaged someone screwed the small fitting in too far and damaged the tubes.

What the hull? I dropped it off at the spray painter right after new years and I'm yet to even see a quote off him. Its actually starting to piss me off a lil bit. I'll give him 2 more weeks or I'll just pick it up ready or not [emoji28].

Had a few dramas trying to knock the seal in. Usually I'd just bash it in with a hammer and punch but it was super tight.
Ended up putting a bit of pipe in the lathe and machined up a bit of insert and used Gary's 4 ton press.
It got up to 2 ton.

The bearing pressed in fairly easy. Made up a bit of a disc to press it in square.

That's the top swivel pin bushings on the sterndrive thought I'd leave them in there so they didn't fill them with powder coat.
Was a prick to get out ended up cutting it out with a hacksaw blade.
The old style transom Assembly's must run just one seal because they sent out 2.

Most of today was cleaning out power coat where there shouldn't be, re tapping threads and drilling out bolt treads that had to be cut when I was disassembling it.

You nearly need 3 hands to hold the bellhousing/top swivel pin/steering arm and do the nylon nut up that holds it together.

Probably won't go any further than that, will start to get a bit cumbersome putting it on the boat.

I'll give the spray painter a rev up he's had the hull for 5 weeks now and no action.
