I bought this boat pretty cheap and wasn't intending it to be a project.
Got one season out of it with a few gremlins in it...
Mainly the sterndrive wouldn't go into gear or go into neutral and the trim wouldn't work half the time.

Start of the 2ND season got it serviced, first hot day just about to take the boys out thought I better have a quick look over it.
Checked the oil!

I think it was a head gasket I'm not sure. Had good compression when it got serviced.
Anyhow...
The engine is completely stripped and sitting in the shed.
Looking at getting it cleaned up before Christmas.

I thought may as well fix the sterndrive while it's all apart. Found out Chrysler Marine don't exist anymore and parts are impossible to find.

Yeah I bought it up near Cowra/Young. They were manufactured in Park's apparently.
Yeah it is a rather shallow hull. Not sure if it was a drag boat, it originally had a 350 SBC in it.

That hull wasn't but there was one in particular that was. I have a mate named Stan Sainty and l will ask him about them when l'am at his shop next week. He used to run blown Hydro's and Flats against Juddcraft hulls running Blown BB Chevs at Windsor and the old Silverwater track a number of years ago, if he knows anything l will post it here.

Welcome to the forum Jimmy! That's one hell of a project you got there. The styling and just about everything about it is completely different then just about anything we have over in the states. Not sure I would put a tower / roof on it..

Yeah everything's bigger in the States [emoji1].
Rear mounts aren't a real common recreational boat here. Ya see them more in the race boats like in the Southern 80.
The Malibu style boat has really taken off here in the last 10 years.
A 253/308/350 is about as big as they'll get unless your a rev head and put in a big block.

The cut out wasn't ideal, the jigsaw walked abit on the inside. Nothing a bit of fiberglass can't fix.
Not sure how many layers of glass to put on the inner edge of the keyhole it's fairly snug now.
But will look at 3-4 layers everywhere else.
Went 360mm from the bottom of the hull as centre, because of the 15deg angle of the transom.

Started to prep the transom for glass found the whole right side had a 5mm cavity between the timber and outta skin.[emoji33]
So I cut out as much of where the cavity was and I'll just have to reglass it.
I also found that one of the tubes of liquid nails didn't go off and was still wet after 3 weeks.[emoji35]
Around the keyhole and left hand side though come up pretty good.[emoji6]

Time to get drunk I think and forget about it[emoji481] [emoji481] [emoji481]

Looking good but everything is upside down for us here in the states! :D Your transom looks like mine did! Hahahaa!!! Good move grinding it back and glassing everything in. You'll be happy you did this when you did.

Not questioning your methods but I'm curious why you used Liquid Nails instead of just setting your transom in with fiberglass? Not knocking your methods I'm just curious is all!

Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing the pictures with us!

College of YouTube bro [emoji6]. This is the first place where I've actually got any feed back that wasn't "just get a new boat man" [emoji1]

Sorry it looks backwards but one day all
u guys will catch up and work with decimal points instead of frictions [emoji4].

Looking back on it I should have used the Fiberglass filler I used for the fillets inbetween the transom and the outta skin.

Done about 3-4 hours grinding n sanding and bogged some holes and filled some gaps in.
Just a quick buff tomorrow (pending how big tonight is) and I'll hopefully lay 1-2 layers up tomorrow.

Anyone got an idea on how I should lay it up?
Whether I tab around the outside first or just go the whole hog and lay it in one go?

Haven't put much on lately but it's getting there.
It's about 6 layers thick on the sides and I'm up to layer 3 in the middle.
I'll sand it back in the morning and make a start on the inside, the transoms starting to look to thick around the key hole.

since it was bonded in with liquid nails, id go heavy on tabbing, etc. considering you seem to have plenty of fiberglass laying around im still scratching my head on the liquid nails part...

nice progress! subscribing.

Spread that tabbing out over a greater distance along the sides and the bottom of the hull. If you end all of your layers of tabbing in the same place, you could end up with a super-rigid transom and then more flexible hullsides. If that happens, wherever you ended all of the tabbing, you stand the risk of your hullsides cracking in those areas. Spread the transition out over a greater distance to help transfer the forces over a greater surface area. Just my .02 Brother. ;)

Is it as important to get it in under the cap? It keeps falling down and it's not doing the blood pressure any good [emoji28]

Consider the liquid nails as "soft wood" and add a few extra tabs X2 . Don't float where there are big crocks and you should be good. :skull

We're heaps too south for crocks.
Might get eaten by a massive marry cod tho.
It's like 3mm of liquid nails :yikes:
It's there for flex [emoji6]
What else would u put behind the transom?
The outer skin was fairly ungulating on the inside causing air gaps.
Saw it on YouTube thought it would work.

No crocks?

Good to go. By the time all that stuff cures plus the extra tabs it will be better than when you started. :D

liquid nails is for building houses... a layer of mat and resin is all you need to bond the transom to the hull. there should be a layer of mat inbetween your layers of plywood as well, resin by itself is weak, unless its epoxy. im going to assume you're using poly.
