It ain't going to get any cheaper when in history has it dropped and stayed? I think they will just change the terms to 10 years or more. A new diesel is already 80k-100k. Even putting 20k down and financing it over 6 or 7 years puts you around that number pending interest rate. Makes used trucks seem more appealing. However it's either new or keep putting money to keep the older one running. Either way it's money going out.

I was looking at trucks yesterday and came across a used 2021 Raptor with the 37” tire package, it stickered for about $85k new, this dealer had it up for the bargain price of $99,000! F me! Most Ford dealers are marking up all their Raptors $15-25k and $40k+ if they have the 37” tire package. Just remember that your tax and license are being based on that purchase price. I had to walk out of the Ford dealer when I purchased my F350. They drew up 6, 7 and 8 year terms. I told them call me back after you draw up a 4 and 5 year term then I will decide what I want to do.

Friends F350 is $1500 a month. That's for 6 years.

For the last 7 years I have paid $4000 a month on truck payments. Just paid of my 2021. All of them are paid off now with low miles as we work locally. 3500 2015 just rolled 15k miles. The average payment was $800 and purchase price 45k plus fees. Same trucks now are 65k plus fees. So probably over a $1000 a month.

My last new car purchase was a 1989, my brother managed the dealership. Since then used is all I have purchased. When you start talking 35K to 80K it is the co-costs that I cannot accept. In CA, you add the 9.5 sales tax, plus the high yearly registration cost based on purchase price and higher insurance. Currently own a 2006 Chrysler 300, paid 8K and a 2006 Avalanche paid 12K. When I was working, my commute car was a 1974 MGBGT (great car) purchased for 3700, drove for 5 years, sold for 6K and shipped to France. Followed with a 914 purchased for 5K, sold for 8K, drove for 5 years. I am just cheap to be honest. I am not willing to pay new car prices.

Reading through this thread the one thing I have noticed is everyone needs a fully loaded truck, that is exactly why the average car payment has risen to $712.

You can still go buy a nice f250 that will pull 18k LBS for 50k and have a 5 year warranty. My current truck, a 2014 Ram 1500 with 64k miles is worth about $25k, if I sold it and bought a a 50k f250 the payment would be half of the “average” car payment.
