People will continue to pay these outrageous prices.....so manufacturers will continue to charge them. As soon as people realize they're getting screwed, they'll stop paying these prices. Maybe then the stealerships will reduce their prices. Just my .02.

Me and my finance were looking at getting her a new to her car we found a really clean Tahoe with like it was I believe a 2017 54k miles for 37k by the time the dealer marked it up and added a bunch of bull shit dealer add one that we didn’t want the car came out to like 48k I laughed at them and walked out they have no inventory so now people are paying a mark up on used cars and trucks when the drop off happens and prices reset everyone is going to be upside down is dose not matter if you bought new or old if you bought in the last year and half you over paid and your fucked I was putting 10k down on that Tahoe and we were still at like 699 a month for a used car no thanks

That is a CAR payment, now see what a TRUCK payment looks like for a real shock!
Exactly this.
It ain't going to get any cheaper when in history has it dropped and stayed? I think they will just change the terms to 10 years or more. A new diesel is already 80k-100k. Even putting 20k down and financing it over 6 or 7 years puts you around that number pending interest rate. Makes used trucks seem more appealing. However it's either new or keep putting money to keep the older one running. Either way it's money going out.

The dealers are sticking it to us. I just hope people stick it to the dealers when inventory is at a high. Spending 80 k on a new truck that has to have options added at a later date but being charged for it is complete bullshit. What goes around comes around.

Holy crap Don. There is not way that our household can afford that knd of monthly outlay. Because of that we only purchase our vehicles with cash. 👍

I was looking for a specific truck online and when I found it this is part of the pricing. "Package/Market Price Adjustment $6,143" MSRP $61,424. Final Price $67,568

I can afford to pay it, but I just won’t until it is necessary. As far as I am concerned the days of buying a new vehicle just because I like a new look or feature are over.

This is my truck, wonder what it is worth. Chevy 2007 2500 HD Extended Cab 4 X 4 LTZ new body style 6.0 gas, 106K miles all black interior. Yes the new trucks pricing is out of control.

I have an 02 two wheel drive long bed extended cab with 125,000 miles. I’m sure I could get more than I think for it. 😳

Here’s the only picture I have of it on my phone. With old boat of course. 😁

$712 car payment aint shit and I bet that is mostly a lease payment too. Purchase payment would be north of that. My super duty is $1,100 on a $80k. This December is paid off.

People don’t care what the sticker says , they only care about the payments . If you can’t afford X , then the dealer just adds a couple years to the payment book . The amount of Ca plated , jacked up , tricked out , 4x4 crew cab trucks this weekend was crazy

100% Fuck all that.

I will continue to put money into my old truck to keep it running and keep it nice.

I don't think I will ever come home with another "new car" in my lifetime and I'm OK wwith that.

Maybe I'm cheap...... but I just can't wrap my head around those numbers.

Brand new GMC Denali, 4x4- $95,000 - Thats insane and here is the kicker THEY ARE EVERYWHERE- where the heck do these guys get the bucks for these trucks?
And this is in Boise, Idaho- Not Silicon Valley.

I would say most are “business” trucks. Sec 179 helps.

I was looking at trucks yesterday and came across a used 2021 Raptor with the 37” tire package, it stickered for about $85k new, this dealer had it up for the bargain price of $99,000! F me! Most Ford dealers are marking up all their Raptors $15-25k and $40k+ if they have the 37” tire package. Just remember that your tax and license are being based on that purchase price. Hell, those fees are more than I paid for my first 3 new cars.

People now feel that the government will take care of them, money isn't hard to get anymore. PPP, Stimulus, unemployment, Gas Stimulus etc.... No prob, the money will be there somehow.

I never totaled all of the receipts, but I put near 11k in my 2002 Silverado last year resetting everything I didn't stay up on. I have 173k on it and this conversation is exactly why I will drive this thing until I die, or it is unrepairable.

Well your close to $916 a month for a new one with 4 more yrs left on a 5yr loan. Hopefully you don’t have another big maintenance tab the following yr.

Remember when the average car loan was 4 years. 5 years was considered excessive.
I had to walk out of the Ford dealer when I purchased my F350. They drew up 6, 7 and 8 year terms. I told them call me back after you draw up a 4 and 5 year term then I will decide what I want to do.

Lender incentivize dealer to push the longer terms.

We have been needing a new mid size SUV for my wife so she can haul her new covid grand kids around.

I contacted the Costco dealer who keeps calling me with cars we don't want.... at $2,500. over window sticker!

I have never paid full price for a car, and usually got some kind of rebate so these are uncharted waters.

We will wait. I'm not expecting a huge discount but I am not going to pay over window sticker!

My newest car/truck is a 2015. When the motor Takes a dump in goes a new engine. Not going to pay those kind of payments for 5 to six years. The only issues is maybe getting parts by then the ways things are going. Lol

And one day they will figure out the money the government is giving them is a small portion of what the government took from them in the beginning🤦🏼‍♂️ Morons

Even a decent shit-box commuter to $20k+ these days. At 3-4% interest with 10% taxes and fees puts the payment up around $500...

I bought new tires for mine a year and a half ago because they were separating. Only put 700 miles on it since then.

Friends F350 is $1500 a month. That's for 6 years.

For the last 7 years I have paid $4000 a month on truck payments. Just paid of my 2021. All of them are paid off now with low miles as we work locally. 3500 2015 just rolled 15k miles. The average payment was $800 and purchase price 45k plus fees. Same trucks now are 65k plus fees. So probably over a $1000 a month.

My last new car purchase was a 1989, my brother managed the dealership. Since then used is all I have purchased. When you start talking 35K to 80K it is the co-costs that I cannot accept. In CA, you add the 9.5 sales tax, plus the high yearly registration cost based on purchase price and higher insurance. Currently own a 2006 Chrysler 300, paid 8K and a 2006 Avalanche paid 12K. When I was working, my commute car was a 1974 MGBGT (great car) purchased for 3700, drove for 5 years, sold for 6K and shipped to France. Followed with a 914 purchased for 5K, sold for 8K, drove for 5 years. I am just cheap to be honest. I am not willing to pay new car prices.

Reading through this thread the one thing I have noticed is everyone needs a fully loaded truck, that is exactly why the average car payment has risen to $712.

You can still go buy a nice f250 that will pull 18k LBS for 50k and have a 5 year warranty. My current truck, a 2014 Ram 1500 with 64k miles is worth about $25k, if I sold it and bought a a 50k f250 the payment would be half of the “average” car payment.
