Thinking hard about making the move to one. Resort style pool, restaurant, bar, gym, etc....

We know a lady that moved into a newly built community for 55+ and she absolutely loves it. Husband died and left her with a big house on a large lot and she just got tired of being lonely. Moved in to a newly built gated community and says its like a party every day. Every one drives around on golf carts and just super friendly. She says summer time at the community pool is so much fun. She also says alot of kinky shit happens in her community.

THIS! This is what I'm thinking. No yard work. Drive a golf cart to the pool or bar. I so want this. I've lived 25 years in the same house and I'm ready for a change..

We have Leasure Village near us, MIL lived there and quite literally it seemed like everytime we went there all I saw was folks that appeared more like 80>, not 50 or 60. HOA fees through the roof too.
Locally it's nickname is known as "Gods waiting room" or Seizure Village. Sad.
But they do have a golf course, pools and plenty of activities.

Been talking to the wife about getting some fake ID’s and making a run at it, pretend that our daughter is our granddaughter if anyone asks. She thinks I’m nuts, she might be right LOL

I’ve been looking at new pads, and I’m having trouble getting excited about taking on more workload, overhead, new tax bills etc… renting seems so appealing to me at this point, shits broke, call someone who has to care 😂

maybe they should have retirement style community’s for younger people who are done giving a fuck? 💡

There is a large 55+ community in Central Florida and the reports regarding STD's are unbelievable. No thanks.

Some have CCR's that require proof of age to own the property let alone live there, and a fake ID ain't going to cut it.

And sometimes those rules can make a tragic situation worse. One of the admins at my old job lived in a very nice 55+ community, gated entrance, golf club, club house and pool and so forth. Her son and DIL died in a car accident and they took in their 13 y/o grand daughter. The HOA found out and gave them 90 days to vacate. No exceptions, people under 55 could not spend more than like 30 days in the house.

Others are more lenient, my Dad has had a place in one since he was 50. They could own the lot and house, just had to limit his stays to like 2 or 3 weeks at a time.

I dunno, I kind of like having different generations around in the neighborhood, but I can see the appeal also of not having kids around at times.

Exactly why we didn’t keep my grandmothers place in needles after she passed at 92. And she loved the weekends when all the generations where in town.

I would totally do the 55+ thing, as long as there is a golf course, clubhouse, pool (s) etc. Mob down to the clubhouse/restaurant in golf cart for activities or dinners with the neighbors, pool days, golf, nice clean streets and quiet. What more could you ask for?!!

We have done a few jobs at The Colony in Murrieta. I would totally live there.

Wife and I bought one when she was going through Chemo so we would be close to MD Anderson . Lot lease goes up every year. too many restrictions for me. Didn't partake in any of amenities. Too many old people for me. Gods waiting room is correct. Ambulances and fire trucks all the time.

I have been kicking it around, thought about Florida just so I can golf year-round, in laws live in seizure world seal beach, but it was nothing like the villages when I drove through last year. I would say the last thing I would worry about is an STD when I'm 70-80, it would be my hip, my golf swing and drinking too much would be my top 3

It might feel like you're the only ones there, but every pair of eyeballs in the place will be watching you make any movement outside your residence.
My daughter and SIL's first place was a condo that had recently loosened up their age requirements. Secure; yes -- but there was a creepyness factor of being around old people with nothing better to do.

It’ll be fun, you can watch the ambulance drive by all the time😝
That’s no joke! My neighbors house backs up to the street that leads to the only trailer park in the city off Temecula it’s 55+. He hears that shit all day long!

Yes. It's called the Islander in wintertime. 😂

Unlike @callbob's experience, these people are not waiting around to die. Pickleball every day, crafts (sewing machines included), wood shop (lathes, planers, routers, tablesaws, etc), organized parties, huge potlucks for Thanksgiving and Christmas, poker, karaoke, hiking events, golf cart parades with booze stops, billiards, golf club, bingo and bunko of course . . . the idea is not terrible if you like to socialize. I can see the attraction if it's the right location. Like with any location, you're bound to find folks you really enjoy and those who you'd rather not be around. It gets kind of difficult sometimes to avoid those you'd rather not be around. You can't just hit the ignore button. ;) Every year, though there are always 3-5 that do not return and one or two who pass while they are here, but at least they had fun until the end. Someone had a heart attack playing volleyball in the pool last month. He survived thanks to his pacemaker.

My grandma is in a 55+ village in Naples. She's about 15 minutes to Marco Island, and 20 to downtown Naples. She hated it at first, but has since made a ton of friends. Now she loves it, they have a clubhouse and pool. The HOA fees are insane along side the property lease. The HOA does include a lot though. It covers your garbage, cable tv/internet (I think this has something to do with hurricanes), landscaping (you don't pay for the water that maintains the landscaping), and a few other perks.

If I could talk the wife into it when I turn 55 I don't see why I wouldn't.

We have Grandma Axehandle in one in Vegas.
You’d never know it was a seniors condo complex.

Nice grounds and condo, meals and activities and it has a well staffed medical crew. Shuttle to everywhere.

Grandma did a shoulder roll bending over to pick up a ping pong ball and broke a back bone. The medical staff was great in her recovery.

They ain’t cheap. Leaving Calif to Nevada is a pay raise with no state income tax making it more affordable for some.

I have a gated community golf course house in Vegas second home not 55 but sure feels like it . But the amenities are awesome if you use them. Dinning is over priced and drinks as well. Always see golf carts flying around but relatively quite community .

I’m sure there are some great ones out there. I just never have been the social butterfly type. There have been 8 or 9 passed away that I know of where we were, but they were all pretty old and failing health to begin with. I am in a 55+ RV park now, but have decided to sell the motorhome and move back to Colorado full time. Place is paid for and daughter and sil live on site so I have a support system if needed. Since my wife passed, my focus has changed. Not enjoying living alone as much as I thought I would I guess. Lots of family and friends there so there is that. I have a few friends here in the park, but other than cigars and Jameson with the couple across the street last night, don’t do much socializing. GET OFF MY LAWN comes to mind lol.

A few years ago my mom moved from Canyon Lake because she said it was too expensive....she moved to a Del Webb 55 plus resort type community....she bought a nice house with a rock from yard with minimal yardwork...she has gotten the most stupidest fines and notices in that community than I ever seen...my mom loves putting a flag up for every season, her very first month there she got a fine because she had a valentines flag up....no warning, just a fine....like the 3rd month she lived there the one bush in front of her house bloomed some flowers and they fell on her driveway...she got a fine because of the "yard waste" on her driveway...it goes on and on...I swear the old people on the HOA have nothing better to do...

When my MIL did pass, multiple other widows in the community almost instantly started circling her husband like vultures.😳😳

The place in bullhead is 55 plus and we bought it when we were in our mid 30s. If you want peace, this is where it’s at. There’s days where we have no idea if all the people on our street are dead.

Exactly, my Mom lives in Laguna Woods, shes 90. She fits right in. Don't really see "younger" residents around. I'd be bored to tears...........

Def research it. My brother (70) is very active. Just moved to one and said it should have been advertised as over 85. He is slowly getting some activities going again and people involved.
