So I’m on my second set of 5150 whips 1st set went bad the first time out. Called and set up warranty claim and couple days later new whips show up and I send my bad ones back all good. Fast forward a couple years and I start another warranty claim since one isn’t working again. Apparently I need to now pay to have them shipped in and an additional $25 handling fee!! Also the whips come in pairs so both need to be sent in at the same time. To make things even worse they tell me I have a 4-5 week wait period as they’re busy!?! They’re blaming new ownership. They policy changed from when I bought the whips and would’ve never gotten them if this was the policy in place at the time of purchase. So if I chose to send them in now I’ll be lucky to have them by new years!

End rant.

That sucks. I love my 5150 whips and starting a new build soon. I guess I will have to see what other options are available when it comes time to order whips.

They used to be in Hesperia and you could walk in and take care of warranty issues on the spot. I believe they sold and moved out of state, which is probably why you're seeing changes.

Mine have been great but are starting to break at the base from age/use.
When Andrew owned it here in Hesperia you could just walk in like said above. Was great back then. When I rolled the car he didnt charge me to fix them one cent.

Going to have to get new ones sooner or later. Who is the go to whip now?

5150 WAS great when Andrew owned it in Hesperia, I sent 2 in for warranty 06/23 went out maybe once before New Years last year and 1 didn't work and this is what I got from them. Such bullshit that they didn't fix it right when I sent it in. First email to them starts on the bottom.

I emailed you in March and nothing was said about 30 days and now that comes up, no wonder everyone is complaining about 5150 whips and your customer support. So I have to pay $50 again and hope you guys fix it right this time? By the time I keep paying to send these broken whips in I could buy a different brand and not have these issues.

Thank you,

Chris

Re: FW: Order RA-3124 confirmed-Bad repair

We only cover the fee 30 days after a warranty is sent back.

I see that this warranty was handled in june of 2023

Thank you,

Hello

Since the season is upon us I thought I would revisit this and see what we can do to get the whip that I sent in and wasn’t fixed handled without me having to pay $50 again?

Thank you,

Chris

I’m going to test it on my buddies car next time he has it out but that would really suck to have to pay $50 again and it only lasted a few months, which actually only 1 weekend.

Thank you,

Chris

Hello sadly it sounds like one the whips might have a wiring problem you will have to warranty these again.

Hello

I got my whips warrantied and on my New Years trip one whip worked and the other blinks on and then right off. Is there a way to hard reset with the remote or anything like that? I have tried it where the other one works so it isn’t the plug.

They are close to Huntington Beach now. Dropped some off a year ago.

sent them an email this morning and this is their reply:
Hello,

I am sorry but we do not take drop offs in our office building we dont have a system for drop offs or people in the front who can assist with drop offs. All warranties must be processed through our warranty form and then shipped in.

Well I guess they don’t have a problem sending new products to dealers but don’t seem to be in any hurry to take care of current customers. Bummer because I had recommended them in the past because of the way they handled the warranty claims.

“Unfortunately it's not a "Shoot first, ask questions later" process and we need to inspect each claim and figure out the best solution for replacement or repair and this can't be done at the snap of a finger. All of our competitors with similar warranties have lead times that are subject to change as well with some going as far as not accepting new claims during their busy season.

Our policy is a lifetime warranty with just a couple of reasonable requirements and does not state anything about a definitive turnaround time but states that it is subject to season and availability.
We appreciate your feedback and understand if you would like to choose a different company's product, but we are not refusing to cover anything so if you can handle the current lead time, please follow the steps outlined in the original email to send the whips in.”

I sold mine after I found out the original owner sold the company. I had an issue with a whip and the old owner Andrew sent me his number. I told him I fucked up backed car into trailer forgot to take whip down.

I asked about fixing it and how much as I did the damage. He said send it back and I needed new led strip as I had a burnt out spot where I hit. He said no charge just shipping. So I was stoked on that. Saw him at sand show the next year asked about new magnetic base etc. he gave me a good discount as I was telling him I was very happy with the previous service so I’ll buy another.

Guess right after that the company sold and people were talking about the warranty changing etc. so sold whip for what I paid.

NOw running a jc whips n shyt. He’s in Ramona and stands behind his product.

I told them I’ll wait until the end of the season and run the broken one.

Customer service response was

“Sounds good”

This should be good advertising.

Random guy

“Hey one of your whips isn’t working”

Me

“yeah I know but 5150 says it’s a 5 week wait and then they’ll let me know if they decide to honor their warranty after I spend $25 for handling and $60 for shipping”

Radom guy

“That sucks”

Me

“Yeah and I asked if it’s because they don’t have any new ones to send out and they said no the new owners policy is to have current customers wait while the crank out new whips for everyone else.”

Thanks for heads up, didn’t realize they sold. Sucks about the new policy and looks like I’ll need to find a new brand once mine go bad or I run out of talent and break them.

That sucks. Years ago I bought a set right before glamis. Got them installed and went to drive in the trailer and snapped them both off. Got too excited and drove it in without taking them off lol. Brand new $300 whips down before even leaving the house. They fixed them for free

Buggy Whips has been amazing to deal with. I thought that my mounting bases were missing when I received my order and they sent out a pair no charge, no questions asked. I found the original pair at the bottom of the tubes. Sent them an email apologizing for my mistake and asked where to send them back. Last season my buddy had an issue with one of his bases and they swapped out no problem. I don't think they even asked for an invoice. His daughter happened to be heading towards their shop and she handed them the bad one and they gave her the new one. Their stuff is not cheap but so far the product and service has been worth the cost.

I think I win the B.S. warranty claim.

They are 10 miles from my house but when I called I was told I could not bring them myself and had to ship them. So, in July 2024 I paid $35ish to ship them and a $25 processing fee. Four weeks later I received an empty damaged box.......
I emailed 5150 Whips and the reply was it is my responsibility to file the claim with USPS. I filed the claim and since the value on the invoice from 5150 Whips listed the whips as $0 for warranty claim USPS refused to pay a penny. I recontacted 5150 Whips and too bad so sad... they wouldn't even re-write the invoice with the real price for USPS.

So, I send in one broken and one GOOD whip, paid $55ish, waited 4ish months and finally got a big 🖕.

That's fucked, and that alone will make me look elsewhere next time I need to replace mine or get new ones.

It's interesting to see how easy it is for a new owner to run a successful business into the ground with shit customer service, but it's also a great learning experience for other business owners as to what not to do if you want to keep your company successful.
