FWIW……. I’ve been warned that if my lithium batteries do catch fire…….. they are going to burn at 550 degrees. I actually don’t know if this is true or not, but that is the main reason why I don’t leave my charging cord connected at all times. Soon as I am charged up, I unplug.

I think they only way the fire goes out is to run it out of fuel. During thermal runway the battery creates its own oxygen. These things are like an awful high school science experiment when bad things happen.

Did some R&D work offshore on very powerful, particular batteries. Although, we had very advanced fire fighting systems onboard, the advised approach was, if they lit - jettison them. Fortunately, they never lit.

It's my understanding that you can put them out with water but it takes an insane amount of water. Better to control spread and let it burn it self out.

I have been thinking about getting the lithium batteries for the golf cart when I need new batteries next year. I am worried about them burning up. Do they know what causes them to catch on fire? Cart is stored under the awning to my park model during winter and is used every day. In the summers it is stored in a garage. I suck at battery maintenance and have to replace batteries about every 3 years.

Thought about one for my boat stereo battery. A similar Amp hr to a group 27 ain’t priced bad for price vs how long they can last.

But the converting charging system to adapt and heat does have some concern for me.

From what I understand fires usually happen when the a cell(s) get punctured or compromised somehow and short out. The resulting short circuit gets the cell hot enough to ignite and it can start a chain reaction in the battery.

My wife retired from city of Tacoma solid waste. More than a few times they've had fires start in garbage trucks from old phones or toys.
