I think in Havasu you can have sub panels the are 'lower values' (but not equal to) than the main/inlet panel. I have a 200 coming in, a 100 to the garage, and a 125 to my 'indoor-outdoor room'. If you are running a 'union sweat shop' then, yes go with a 400 main, but I have not had problems and I run 'three phase machines' in my garage while all the A/C units blaze . Just don't ever jump up and go for a 'demand meter' like those used in the "M1" areas. The charge rates for those meters are not friendly to anyone who is not into heavy production industry .

:yikes

As in the "grow" type? :p

That could handle a lot of welders... at the same time :thumbsup

it's only about 1400 sq ft. And believe me, he doesn't need half that..lol

You forgot the clean room, he'll need for Germination.

The 400a panel will be split with (2) Main Positions 200a for the home and a 150a Sub, 100a Pool (if he has one) the need for the 400a bus could more likely be for the 10k+watt Solar System. I have 400a Panel in 2 of my homes and both are Solar 8k and 12k, the large Bus will let you increase your output if needed but not likely as Appliances/Fixtures/Lighting are becoming more efficient.:D

28...Keep us informed. I only live a few blocks from you to the west and have a good "five star" friend as a neighbor who would love to come over and have a few in the driveway to meet the new neighbors!! :D

:D I'm sure that would be a fun party.. :yikes

What ever he is doing next door shouldn't he be a big deal to you. Just slip another 2" counduit out of his panel over to your house and tap in. He will never know the difference and you can leave ALL YOUR lights on and set your A/C to 65 for free.:D

Your kind of an Instigator :p Pool pump and AC would be enough for me, I'm not greedy :D

Maybe He's building a resort for swingers :D:D:D

Pools are mandatory for Swinger resorts.. he doesn't have one ;)

I put a 400 amp panel in when I built my new house. Sure hope I don't go to jail for that:yikes The only think that I've been growin' around here is my waist line...:D I did put in three separate A/C systems, spa and a pool but no grow lights... Guess I missed the bus on this deal. the house is about 3400 Sq Ft. Please don't call the zoning cops on me:p

Steve

Your house needs a panel that size, this one doesn't. No Pool, No solar, 1 - 4 ton AC unit (so far). Simple late 80's style 1400 sq ft S.O.G. tract house.

Is the 1100 ft basement included in that figure ??????

No basements in the desert. I haven't seen one in the 9 years I've been here.

we did that on our last house.... it was great to know that you could plug in a couple rv's run the ac's and mom could still do laundry and cook:thumbsup

My house is 2200 sq ft, 15000 gal pool and spa, outdoor kitchen, 1 - 5 ton AC for the house, 18000 BTU AC wall unit in the garage, 30 amp for big 2 stage compressor, 50 amp outlet for welder, separate 50 amp outlet for RV, massive garage electrical, electric dryer, electric cooktop and oven.. and all I have is a 200 amp main, and 125amp sub. Never had an issue.

probably going to de rate the main and load up the house with solar.

No solar, at least not yet..

Thats what it appears to be. There's 2 - 200 amp breakers in the main, and the guys were out there with a hacksaw cutting what appeared to be #00 wire today. I assume to feed the sub because the cover was off it. No evidence of any solar going on the house.

Here, In the desert, we dig our basements after the house is built. It Helps to stop frek'n noisy neighbors from posting pic's of our "upgrades". :D

:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup: I didn't say it was a bad thing ! Just this was used by people that were not law abiding citizens if you know what I mean ! :D:D

Wouldn't Edison have to run a bigger line to the house for that much power? When I upgraded to 200amp, Edison had to come out first to check the size of the line.

Yes. The electricians ran new 3" conduit for the new panel. Panels been mounted, but no meter yet, so I'm guessing they're waiting on inspection before Edison can run the new cable and install the meter.

Not yet... I met the buyer when he first bought the place months ago. (Rented it back to the widowed seller for about 4 months).. I'm bound to run into him again, and this is just getting interesting :D

maybe the guy has some machines he needs to run in his garage. CNC/Mills or lathe? No need for 400 amp service for welders. I have a 200amp panel with a 100amp sub panel in the garage. Runs the mig and tig welders without issues.

If he is growing he will turn out to be the best neighbor you will ever have, He won't be having parties, and he will be trying to do everything possible to remain under the radar and blend in. He won't be bothering anyone if he's smart, and if he is setting up that large of an operation chances are he is.

Exactly.. No one even lives there. They come every 2 days for several hours and leave.

Well someone tipped off the cops [emoji15]. They showed up today apparently, neighbor says they had the guy in the back of the cop car, but then let him go ???[emoji57] Cops Told the neighbor "this place will be shut down".

Should be interesting to see what happens in the next few days.
