There was a thread on here last year or so about 4 post lifts. I think Dave mentioned there was a couple people on the forum who sold and installed lifts.

Anyone know who that is?

If you're going to have one permanently installed, get ready to cut and pour some concrete.

We went down a couple feet deep at the last shop I worked at.

Not the whole slab. Just per leg.

None of the 4 post lifts I'm looking at require any special slab work, and don't required even bolting down.
I have a triumph 8k xlt. I got it from mechanic superstore and picked it up in vegas to save shipping

I have had it for years and haven't bolted it down. No issues they come with dollies to move them. 3 of us including my wife assembled and installed it in less than a day.

My brother works for bendpak and I don't believe any of the 4 post require slab modifications. He has one in his garage, with no mods to the slab. I have one of their 2 post lifts, that's designed for garages with low ceilings (it has about 44" of lift) and it required no slab mods as well. The nice thing about bendpak is the testing they perform, and customer support they offer. 4 post is great for storage, 2 post is great for working on your cars.

I look at them every year and never pull the trigger.
I want it for storage and when we need to work on something.
I start looking at them and think one will work than im like oh look this one is longer oh this one lifts more weight oh this one etc and so on and I end up defeating myself. LOL

I have been interested in 1 or 2 of them for a long time but had put it on the back burner til I get some other things done. Let me know if you find someone maybe I will join the order if they provide installation.

I would like to get one. I am in Parker if you find someone to deliver and set up. I can wire etc.

100% a 4 post for extra parking / storage. Driver and passenger doors can swing open without hitting the two post pole. Also not having to swing out the arms of a 2 post.

We have both 2 and 4 post. If I had to picknjust one I would go 4 post 100%.

I can't think of a single reason to own a 4 post over a 2 post. Get a 2 post.

Both have a use, a 4 post you can roll around a shop, you can park another car under it. A 2 post is convenient to get some work done.

Out of curiosity, will a boat/trailer fit under a 4 post? Say a Hallett 255? thinking about extra storage

There's a guy out of Phx that Skinny tire Ahole gave me, he charges 1K for assembly considering he has to drive all this way. He said he usually waits until he has a couple jobs. Im not sure he's delivering as well, I hadn't made it that far into my quest.

I have the Advantage 4-post boat lift. 8000lb rating. Can roll it around when empty. Post spread is wide enough to put a boat under it. I keep a truck under one of our boats with it (an 18ft OB tunnel so pretty lightweight boat). Very happy with it.

I have the same one with the castors, move it around with a car on it, lowered of course.

I have two 4 post lifts at home for storage. I just picked up the second one , big Benpack unit from a custom exhaust. Shop that was going out of business. the ramps are heavy as hell so assembly Needs some bodies for them. I thought about the two post but it’s storage only and wanted the tires on the ramps.

I have seen first hand, someone had a 4 post lift in a warehouse, with a car on it, and it cracked the slab in multiple places. 😉

Be ready to replace the slab, if it’s not high psi concrete, or done right.😉

Sounds like they have a real shitty slab😉

Because that doesnt make sense. A car sits on 4 wheels, so are you saying the slab would have cracked with just the car sitting one it cause the lifts dont weigh that much🤔

They must have poured it with sackcrete🤣 cause your typical slab is 3000-3500psi which withstand a 4 post and a car no problem. I pour all our garages and slabs with 4500psi with fiber mesh. just because I get it for the same cost as 3500psi

I will be needing one soon.

I need one to put the jet bote on top and a car underneath.
Early last year when I priced out the extra wide models to fit a boat, they were about about $10k installed.

I need it but hate the idea of crapping out $10 to store stuff.
= Gay!!

I'm looking at as cheaper than building another 1-2 car garage.

Don't care.

If it's not bolted into 3000psi concrete, that's at Least 4 inches thick, I ain't working under it.

I've lived through enough earthquakes to know better.
I've never been under one not bolted down and had more than one car "settle" over the years. (yes, I give them a good jounce at about 6" up) I looked at the mobile ones and just about talked myself into it, but I feel the same.

It's pretty well known Rotary makes the best lifts. And they are quite expensive for a reason.

BendPack isn't in the same league, but they do build a quality product.

Now of course in this thread...

The discussion is about storage. Not an actual Working lift. So would a lesser quality product be ok, since it's unlikely anyone will be standing underneath it?

The wall mounted lifts, the repo guys use, would be the best option for vehicle storage. But most home garages aren't made out of block walls.

You really have to consider ALL the options to make an informed decision on this.

In SoCal, earthquakes happen multiple times per day. That's a major league factor, that would lead me to Only want to use a floor mounted, quality, vehicle lift.

Shit happens...

Thankfully, I’ve managed to scratch earthquakes off of my list of worries.

I have a Backyard Buddy 4 post lift in my shop. It has the detachable casters that allow for the lift to be moved around. I am very happy with it, had it for 15 years and it serves my needs well, and I am not afraid to work under it, or park under it. The casters are only on when it is being moved, and only when any load is lowered all the way. The lift literally picks itself up the way the casters are designed. It can't pick itself up with the deck raised. Period.
The air lift in the center is a geat option.

Are there attachments that can make a 4 post lift work like a 2 post for doing axle related work where you need to lift the vehicle from the chassis and drop an entire axle? A 2 post with arms makes the most sense for my uses, but a 4 post is necessary because I want to be able to move it around (unloaded). I don't need stacked storage, but need the ability to move the lift because i don't want it to be a permanent fixture.

Bendpack boat lift is what I have after buying a cheaper version then realizing I wanted something to put my boat up out of the way in winter Can un bolt and slide the one side over to put a car or SXS in matter of minutes They require air to release the locks for down and is 220 so fyi

Yes, they have rolling jack trays and you can buy air or manual jacks for them.

4 post I would risk installing on a 4" slab. It covers more sq.ft. than the tires on the vehicle so the load is less on the slab.
2 post is going to put more weigh on the slab per sq.ft. than the vehicle itself.
Another thing is if the load is not balanced on a 4 post there is forgiveness since it's a rectangle (4 legs). 2 post is just a stand that needs to be balanced. Get the balance off on a 4" slab and the concrete will just fucking snap and the thing will fall forward or backward. When you bolt a 2 post into a 4" slab it will weaken it because of drilling into the slab. The concrete is at risk cracking between holes. 2 post lifts really need a footing for each post.
