Looked out the window this morning and saw 20+ jetskis go by. Did some research and it’s the Mark Hahn 300. 30 laps around the basin. Who knew? I have some respect for these people right now. Do the math; that’s between 6 and 8 hours!

This guy did last year’s race. First time I’ve heard of it. His YouTube channel is pretty entertaining.

Back in the late 80s me and two of my good buddies, we had the 550 standup JetSki that we would ride from Bullhead city down to the bridge and back in a day. They were equipped with extra large gas tanks. We’d stop in the needles area for fuel and Havasu and re-fuel again in needles for gas, but we did that a few times not sure what the total mileage was but it was a long day.

I once entered a Cannonball Race put on by Dana Point Jet Ski when I purchased the new 900 ZXi in 1997. First ski capable of 70 mph with limited mods. After years of riding Stand Ups I figured no problem I got this, think I was 30 at the time. The race was supposed to begin at 7 AM out of Dana Point harbor to Avalon Catalina and back. Since it wasn't a sanctioned event, the organizer allowed late entries and we didn't take off until like 9. Conditions were 2-4 seas, a little foggy (maybe a mile visibility) and the chase boat didn't have the best electronics. Anyway, we were led about 10-12 miles off course, half of the racers turned back before getting to Avalon. I was already sore 2/3 way and we were given an hour break to refuel/hydrate in Avalon before racing back in clear skies in 3-5 swells. When my legs started to give out and I found some cleaner water I would sit down and hang on. I literally wore the skin off my tail bone and couldn't walk for 2-3 days due to soreness and fatigue. I swore I would never attempt that kind of long-distance ride again without proper conditioning and a decent purse. Much props to all those guys that can hang with these guys I will watch from shore or boat.

Just to be politically correct I was gonna say PWCs. To be honest though, my first thoughts were Lake Lice or Jet Fleas, so give me a little credit.

Went on rides to Catalina in the 80's with Orange County Jet ski, L & S , and West Coast. Those were tough trips on a stand up. Would love to be 25 and do it again. I'm 64 and still ride stand ups. Rode stand ups with my dad till he was 80. I hope I never have to ride a couch.

Back in a day we made good money racing. I got the world title for 4 years and the national title for 5 years retired number one still on the podium.
They wanted me to Ride sit down as well
I said that I quit before I sit that is not racing.

900 ZXI, here's how those handled....
Hey this is fun. Fast. Not horribly rough. I can go 70mph, look at me...then your 30ft from the thing floating looking for where it fucking went without you.
Worse hooking watercraft I've ever seen
Kawi racing had full time pitch test guys trying to fix it. Wide open until thrown off. Adjust. Try again

I did a few years of these endurance races. Few in san Felipe. One in Estero Beach. Laughlin.
They sucked but it was still paying.

I used to like playing out in the Waves in Oceanside.

You race with MD "The Dobber" ? Enjoy trying to spot him in his stuntman movie roles. 👍
This was the year Mark set the Catalina race record on the all carbon fiber "Two off" Yamahas built by RPot and had Rick's short lived "Ace Brake".

Anyway I bought that factory piped ski from Mark a couple of years later and completely restored it.
By Oct of '07 it had been reduced to a pile of burnt fiber and molten aluminum from the wildfire. 😖

Following restoration, you've probably never seen a Robinson Helicopter Tow Cart converted into an height adjustable pwc stand. Lost that in the fire too. 😖
