Hey guys was wondering who some of you are using and what you’re paying. We have ours insured right now but the renewal is $1400 a year. We have the 496HO.

My 2006 Magic Wizard w/ 496HO went for ~$500/ yr through AAA marine insurance. Full bow to stern in case I had a little fire out in the ocean say about 10 miles out. ;)

I have a 22 Place Craft with 496 HO and pay $436 annually I've been using Nikki Kincade ( Bostick, Farmers ) in El Cajon. I recently switched all of my insurance to them mostly due to excellent Customer Service. Give Martha a call and get a quote. 619 303 4108. Good Luck!

Definitely shop around. For some reason one agent doesn’t fit all. My brother swore by a guy after getting 10 quotes. I got a quote from him and others and found it much cheaper. They ranged from 1,050-1,800 for my 2950 with a 600SCI so I definitely recommend spending a couple hours and calling around.

Geico says NO cat hull boat fits their guidelines anymore. If you had a policy before guidelines changed you may be grandfathered in but be careful, they have been reducing stated values.

American Modern will insure but they require a copy of the bill of sale and a survey by a licensed surveyor.

How does agreed value work? You find comparable boats for sale on Boat Trader? Or you have some kind of survey done?

I see a bunch of big name, non-specialty, insurers listed here.

I thought most of them wouldn't do air entrapment? Or are the decks, even the tunnels, excluded from this?

I flat out cannot believe how little you guys pay for boat insurance. You guys don’t know how good you have it.

My 23’ WorldCat is $1800 without Bahamas coverage. $3800 with Bahamas coverage. I also have no coverage if I do not enact my hurricane plan as soon as I am the cone of concern with a named storm.

Our friends pay $8400 per year for their 32’ WorldCat. Most of my friends pay between $2500 and 10k per year for their different boats.

One big negative about living in Florida is the outrageous cost to insure just about anything. My golf cart is 2k per year.

No survey. I just told them what I wanted the agreed value to be and they were good with it… they did have a limit due to the age of the boat

Both brad sterns and Nikki bostick group have been good for me.

A lot depends on if you want to state how much you want to be insured for vs book value I’ve learned.

With the recent changes of underwriting guidelines among insurance companies it would be awesome if folks could post the round-about date their policy was written or went into effect. This would be helpful for all seeking insurance coverage that will have to fit current guidelines.

Thanks all!

HOLY SHIT!
That seems ridiculously high….What state is that insured in?
California, but the boat is stored in Havasu. It is high.. and I need to look around. However, I have a stated value policy and disclosed the HP and top speed of the boat. I also have some pretty high limits.

Bottom line.. god forbid I get in a bad accident with another boat. Someone is badly hurt or dies, the insurance company will look for any reason to deny a claim based on what is disclosed (or incorrectly disclosed) in the policy.

Having cheap insurance rates means nothing if your left holding the bag.

I know a few people that “fudge” their boat criteria to get cheaper rates.. hopefully they never end up in a situation when they need the insurance to be behind them.

I use nikki for all of my power sports stuff , boat, and trailers. 100% recommend. They also do this unheard of thing…answering the phone or actually calling back. Kathryn is our contact there…they do MT LLC stuff as well.

True….that reminds of people who fudge on their taxes to get back a larger refund and then pretend their tax guy does such a great job.
You’re right, in the event of a claim an insurance carrier‘s first action will be in trying to find a way to deny the claim.

Here’s my story as of 6/15/2023-

Subject vessel- 28’ Magic Deck with 496HO
Denied coverage by Geico, Progressive, Farmers and Foremost.
American Modern may cover but they require a survey, a completed boating experience resume and a copy of the bill of sale before they will consider coverage.
I went to Heather at the Wayne Edwards State Farm office in Havasu, she had the boat covered in one brief phone call.
Details as follows:
Boat is registered and kept in Havasu.
$100k in agreed value for the vessel
$15k for trailer
$1k in personal property
$500k in liability
$1k in medical payments
$1k deductible
Annual premium- $1,039
