Might have screwed up….

Got trigger happy and ordered 2 26’ kid size MTB’s online for my 9 year old daughter and 11 year old son. They are 4’4 and 4’9 or so.

I’m confident my Son will fit, but I’m second guessing my daughter. The reading I did online (of course….) convinced me to skip over the 24” wheel sized and go straight to the 26”. The bikes are GT Stomper 26” Pro models.

What say ye?

Another screw up…..shipped them to my office but used PayPal to complete transaction and it is now sending them to my house without a way to hide them from kids 😡

This is one of my monkeys at 10, on a 24” bike.

Don't try to go oversized so they can "grow into it," too big is much more difficult to ride, and you lose the ability to put your foot down when stopping.

Might be a bit of a streach for your daughter...

My 8 year old is pretty small and she in on a 20" and its about perfect for her and her size. My 10 year old is on a 24" and is good on current bike but is getting close to an upgrade to the next size.

26” is going to a bit to tall. My kids (10) and have out grown their 20”s now and 26”s are too big. The bike shop didn’t have 24”s so it saved me money.

So I bought them inexpensive electric bikes during cyber Monday for the mean time.

Depends on the frame size. I got my 9 year old a 27 with an extra small frame. Fits him well and he can grow into it for awhile. Got the daughter a 24 at 7.

Your son should be fine. Your daughter probably not. She could ride it, but doubt she’d be comfortable and putting foot down at a stop will be a problem.

29er. Go big or go home.
If they fit the bike the wheel size should not be a big deal. My wife is 5" and she rides a 29er. It's a santa cruz super light and had the lowest stand over height of any MTB we could find.

Think I should keep the 26' for my son ( 4-10ish and growing like crazy right now) and get a 24 for my daughter? She's 4' 5" as of this morning.....measured her while she was pouring her cereal lol

These bikes should equate to a "XS" size frame, possibly a hair smaller with different egro for cranks and bars to fit kids a little better. Or so they say.....
I'm gonna go look at one today in store and check a few dimensions

I would probably downsize her bike. Maybe head over to Mikes Bikes or NP Bike shop- they will point you in the right direction and give you some input on right size.

I have had good luck buying kids bikes at Mikes.

That was my original plan.
I had insonmia and Dick's website had a "flash sale" countdown timer thing......resulting in a midnight purchase lol

Maybe. Fitting a bike isnt about the wheel its the frame geometry. in other words stand over height. seat to bars measurement is a big deal, seat post to crank.

Go to Treks site they show you how to pick the right frame size based on a number of criteria. At some point the wheel is a factor but its more the frame

I did the Trek sizing last night, it came up with XS frame.

Not sure where you're located, but I HIGHLY recommend Montrose Bike Shop. I raced for them for a few years, they were amazing with my daughters. Ballpark 10miles north of Pasadena, just off the 210.

Bought one of these for my wife last year. She's 5'3''. I was going to buy her the 24" online, but the GT Stomper feels very small when actually sitting and riding it. We bought the 26" and were glad we did. The seat adjusts very low and my 9-year-old son had no problem riding the 26". I'm 5'10" and it's cramped to ride the 26" myself

My 8 year has a 24” commencal He loves his bike. I think he is around 4’5” or so I can upgrade to 26” wheels on this bike.

How tall was your son when he started riding the 26" stomper?
