The information:

Tow Vehicle 2024 2500 GMC AT4X
Potential Trailer purchase Brinkley 295 Model Air TT

  1. Trailer
    1. tongue weight 870
    2. UVW 9,168
    3. GVWR 11,495
    4. length 35 ft
  2. Truck
    1. Truck payload 2695
    2. Truck curb weight is 8655
    3. max tongue weight 1850
    4. GVWR 11350
    5. GCWR 27500

The question / thought process:
  1. are there any laws that require me to run a WDH?
  2. am I stupid for even considering towing without?
  3. Truck payload 2695
  4. Truck curb weight is 8655
  5. max tongue weight 1850

I have an old school curt WDH with the saddle and chain. it will not work on the Brinkley because the front end cabinet blocks the frame.

I use a Husky Centerline. The install calls for frame brackets to be mounted 28.5 to 30.5 inches from center of ball socket on coupler.
You might check with other manufacturers.

If you read the owner's manual for the truck, there is usually 2 different tongue weight ratings based on the hitch being used. I think in order to get near the 1k lbs mark on the tongue you need a WDH.

You can get one of these. No brackets to hang off the A-frame. They are supposed to be pretty badass.

I would try it without it and see how it does. I have a similar 2500 and haul a dump trailer regularly with no wd bars. I am sure over 2k tongue weight sometimes.

I have hauled a 9k travel trailer a few times with and without. You can tell the difference with them. It makes it smoother less bounce. If you plan on towing a lot. I would add them.

it will tow ok at reasonable speeds, fairly straight roads and NO WIND without weight distribution.

take any of those items out of the equation and you will regret no have a WDH.

I think the length of that may have an effect on your situation beyond just the weight on the hitch. That tail is gonna want to wag your dog.

It would not be too difficult to modify the storage box up on a bracket or something to get the space you need to install the WDH.

Husky centerline or equalizer.

You don’t need it for tongue weight. The sway control benefits are worth it.

Yes like mentioned above you probably don’t need them.
But a wise man once said better to have and not need then need and not have.

Go to etrailer and order one of the 2 mentioned above.

BTW they are squeaky as hell but they work damn good. I have had both.

Really happy with the Centerline. I thought I was getting the Equalizer brand but they installed the Centerline. I don't know any different but it works great.

Yep. The WD hitch doubles the receiver weight rating.

If your going with a WD hitch, go ahead and add tongue weight up to 10% it will help with stability

On my old trucks it stated that right on the reciever My 06 2500 I bent it easily and upgraded to a 2.5" . Had the weight bars on it also. It was the same hitch installed on half tons if I recall. My 3 newer trucks. Only have 1 rating on them. But they are all 2.5".

Like mentioned it helps more with sway and bounce.

Charged you equalizer and gave you centerline probably. If do you got fucked couple hundred dollar price difference.

RV dealers routinely charge 2x the going rate for a hitch plus install. So you see used hitches on market place for more than you can buy them new. People simply don’t know any better.
