I'm getting pretty close to pulling the trigger on a 2004 25' Daytona ICC. Besides overall visual inspection and having a marine surveyor look it over, Is there much else I can do/look for, or things to look out for? It has a blown 540, IMCO extension box, with and XR upper and -2 IMCO lower. I completely understand that things break and it's not possible to inspect every single part, but just want to try my best to go through as much as I possibly can.

Thanks for any input and help.

If anyone has an ICC around the $80k range that hasn't been posted for sale yet feel free to post them up.

I’d have a reputable shop look at it. I had @ham&cheese at so cal speed and marine look it over. It’s cheap insurance. Your dad sent me the boat you’re looking at it’s clean visually. Also so cal speed and marine specialize in BIG HP!!

Does the seller have any service records from reputable shops? If he had a binder of all the invoices from a good shop then not only do you know maintenance was important, but you could also talk to the shop about their experience with it.

If a shop tells you the owner only wanted the bare minimum done, or the owner gave them a blank check to do anything they found needing attention you’d have a real good feel for what you’re getting.

Transom rot, although your surveyor should catch that.

How do the canopies look?
If they aren’t rad, you might want to search around to see if anyone still makes them or even has the forms anymore.

Thanks for all the quick replies. Leak down/compression was definitely on the list. A few of my friends had recommended D1, any good reviews as far as them?
Service records is a great point also, thank you!

Here is a link to the boat when it was posted on here last time it sold https://www.riverdavesplace.com/for...nator-25-daytona-closed-bow-blown-540.193052/

Also, do the ICC’s get stagnant/hot while running? I get cruising slow you’re not getting the air. But a couple friends love theirs, and others I know got rid of them because they hated not having the air flow.

D1 is fine. Just as long as you get the numbers.

The plastics guy in Sacramento said that he made bucks for a number of those canopies

Go drive the boat, or at the very least sit in it and look out the canopies. Some are fine, some are not. If the are hazy from surface scratches, they can be buffed pretty easily and cheaply. If they are are distorted, that is a whole different scenario.

I’m going to try and go see it this weekend since I’ll most likely be in Havasu anyways (if I can ever get him to respond to me). Talked to Barrett and so cal speed and marine about compression and leak down, unfortunately they’re booked out about three weeks but I’d rather wait and get it checked before buying. I really appreciate all of the info from everyone. I’ve seen the marine surveyors through searching the forums so I’ll give one of them a call and hopefully can get it all lined up to be done the same weekend.

Does anyone know how long the 25’ is on the trailer? I talked to adrenaline and they quoted me $1200~ to do a swing away tongue. Really hoping it will fit with 33’ of garage so I don’t need to find storage.

I did see that one on Facebook, prefer a closed bow but I’m definitely not against it if this one doesn’t pan out. Thanks!

My 25' daytona will fit in a 30' storage with a swing away tongue. An RCH front and back but it fits. The true length of my 25' from tip of sponsons to end of propeller with a standoff box is right at 30'. The fiberglass is 25' 9". A regular outdrive is about 36" from transom to propeller. Then the standoff box adds another 12". So yeah...

I had the tongue pivot right under the sponson tips and a had a standoff box that added a foot. Without a swing away and no standoff box it's gonna be close. Just have them do the swing away and move on.

This one? I'm surprised they made a single step with and ICC top in 2004. I thought the single step got phased out earlier than that. But the good news it had the tunnel tabs to help with the hop. I've seen the boat in person down in Yuma a number of years ago. Looks like a nice boat.

I think the twin step came out in the late 90s, I know I just saw a 99’ for sale that was a twin step. Good eye.

Yup that’s the one. And thank you for the measurements, sounds like it will be close but swing away should make it fit no problem.

33' is no problem, our 25 on a Competitive triple axle was 31'9".

😂 definitely would end up with zero garage space if I did that. But the ingenuity is solid!
My garage is 29’11”, my F26 didn’t fit till i had a swing away done, btw don’t go to Frank’s Trailers in Havasu he is an absolute hack and painted trailer not even close to right color, and there was paint across my entire boat. Which was somehow my fault, Fuck that guy!
My trailer as i just did measurements for Chris protrudes 7” forward of the sponsons and fits with a total of 11” in my garage. So cut the trailer and use Adrenaline pay once be done right! Btw No Thanks on Franks!

Yea I used him for an emergency bearing and hub issue and got my ass reamed with extra Jalapenos during Covid. Work seemed OK, but he was in it for the cash.

Here’s my .02

Marine surveyor Jim Lang +1 (702) 274-7780
Absolute speed and marine for the pre buy inspection or Iguana marine.. they can both get you in.

I personally would go and look through the canopies.. the distortion on some of the eliminators was pretty bad. The f series dcb’s were considerably better.

really? I have sent quite a few people down there and they all were pretty happy, which is why I kept recommending them. Did something happen I should know about?

Dave I don’t blast businesses being a business owner myself. But I am and was very close to blasting them. Those guys are crooks, and liars. If you want all the details I’d prefer to do it privately through messages.

That was my initial experience I’d send someone to OCM Tim before them 😂. Maybe not that bad but close.

THIS^^^^. I had a 25’ Daytona that had a small ripple in the drivers side canopy. On the trailer no big deal but on the water it always looked like a wave and made me second guess every wave. I always found myself looking around the canopy. It got to a point where I hated it so much I sold the boat.

Was it red/white with a 600 SCI?

As much as i still personally love the canopy look, a bad set will make you hate the boat. I’m lucky as the ones i have are like glass but I’ve owned and driven plenty that were not so good and made the experience rough as you’d always think you saw something that didn’t exist even while knowing that same something always pops up. And sitting on your knees in a no wake zone is equally as miserable when your canopy’s aren’t clear you gotta look over.

How big of a job would it be to update a Daytona with canopies to the later models with the more square windscreens? Now that i think about it, were the square style screens only available with the 22?

It’s a different top deck mold for the more traditional windscreen shape than the ICC.

I've used Iguana pretty much since they opened due to a bad experience elsewhere and in a jam that they helped with. I've also sent 3 others there and all with good experiences. Yours I think is the first negative I've heard about them

Nice boat. No matter what, if you buy a boat with a blown motor you need to keep about $20k set aside for a rebuild. At some point, the engine will blow and you don't want to be one of those guys needing to put it on the Visa, or have the boot sit until you get the money to do it.

I guess if you say so, but even RD was surprised by yours and I'd bet he hears more than most
Here is one set of emails for a teaser. One email says he purchased a new motor already one says he’s filing a claim with his insurance so he hadn’t purchased the motor after I paid him in full. Let me know if you wanna see more. Keep using iguana if you wanna get fucked by him too.
